You can use it right away.
MasterCard and VISA are both widely accepted.
This is the case in Malaysia. Certain stores in the States only accept MasterCard but it is a very rare case nowadays.

i just came back from San Francisco last week, din notice any shops which accept one and not the other

what did u put in the email? can teach a bit? When i call HSBC to ask them to give a waiver of the service tax, they say NO, ask me to redeem from point, but how to make them to give me the points back ar??

Actually SCB is doing a promotion right now. I'm not sure whether the promotion is throughout the year; according to the letter this is a promotion for cards holders that the card is expired in May 2010 and decide to retain the card for the following year. the only condition is that you need to swipe 3 times during the renewal months. They will give 11,000 rewards points. at the same time you need to redeem 10,000 points to waive for the tax. As for HSBC, I have the same experienced they could not simply waive your card.

United States is so big. You need to go to other places to realise this.

perhaps you can flash an email to SCB once you close to the expiry date. according to this letter, this is exclusive for your card which are due to renewal in May 2010. sorry maybe I the way I wrote is misleading. Maybe they issue this offer on regular basis, who knows

nope that leaflet was sent to me, that is why I think they might send the same leaflet to you but changing the month to fit your expiry date

what I did so far:

-email CS asking about how to use rewards point to waive for service tax (since there is no option for this in the online rewards)
-CS called me mentioned to me that I need to use 10k points for that purpose and he can do that straight away
-CS mentioned also to me that as a reward for my royalty they have promotion where they will give 11k points sometimes in June provided I charge the card three times
-then they mailed a leaflet (like a promotion letter) mentioned the same things as above

For CIMB, no

But it's considered as balance transfer. I dont really know how do you transfer 'credit limit' smile.gif

Btw am only referring to their 0% 6-months BT program that I participated in.

You can't transfer your existing credit card limit from Bank A to Bank B. You will have to apply for a new credit card from your desired bank and they will decide how much credit limit they will give to you (assume they approve your application).

The only thing you can transfer is your outstanding unpaid balance.

Apart from the standard questions (e.g IC, Address), the other questions are "Security Questions" which only be known if you are the true user of the card. Questions are random and among others it can be "When you last paid the bill and how".

Not all banks will ask you "Which supermarket you go to?" questions lah coz sometimes these types of questions can be problematic if the cc user doesn't remember but yet a genuine user. (I take it the banks which don't ask these kind of questions to be more sensible)

However, definitely the questions will be random and something to be only uniquely known to the user.
For first timers and green cc users - Banks CANNOT ask you questions like

1. What is your credit card number for verification?
2. Your CVV number
3. Expiry date / Name on Card

They are supposed to already know the answer. Anyone asking you this is a suspected fraud coz these info can be used to buy things without your authorization. Giving these info away as noted above ... is akin to you giving a stranger keys to your house. So be smart.
