Thanks Alex. Seems like the requirement is still high for me... Just curious is there any Free for Life CC in SG?
Anyway I don't think it is feasible to use Msia CC in SG right?

Generally if you are a non-native in a country, applying cc over there can be a daunting task. Expect higher income requirement, stricter paperwork, local address and proof of employment, duration of stay in country, etc. You can't really fault them ... too many defaults and people who abuse the system. I have encountered this many times ... when the foreigners leave the country, they 'forget' to pay the last cc bill which will run into the thousands.

In SG generally everyone there cancels and reapply for new card to avoid AF. I'm unaware of FFL cards in SG.
And if you are using a non-local credit card in a foreign country ... there's always the conversion + admin fee which makes it slightly more expensive. Still sometimes it still works better to your benefit as the money changer rates are worse off. In some countries, money changers charges additional conversion fees - many Malaysians unaware of this as our local money changers don't work this way.

Thanks Hye. From first page, for overseas trans I see MBB charges 0.5% while Alliance is 0%?
I also recalled someone mentioned SCB VI rewards you more for overseas spending, is this correct? Any other CC that rewards better for overseas spending and do not need high income requirement? Sorry for asking this again as I know someone asked this before, just that I could not find this info in first page.

No problem.
It is a good question to answer and it is not those questions that I dislike.
Yes ... you are right about MBB and Alliance. Plus although MBB charges 0.5%, many has reported that their exchange rates is quite good and in some reported they are being charged lower than official forex rates.

SCB VI rewards you 5x or 10x (on yr birthday month) for overseas spending and their CS are definitely better than your MBB CS quality. Cons for this card ... you cannot apply for it anymore even if you meet income requirements (I think it was RM180K) as they now issue it exclusively only to SCB PB customers only. Lack of support for EZ payments (if you like this) vs. MBB among others. Again ... every card has their plus and minus and I think you understand this.

I think for your requirement ... best to go for Alliance. Not so high income requirements, 0% charges for intl spendings. Note your potential shortcomings ... CS so so only, Alliance not well known to give away super CL, gifts redemption (sigh!) and hope you are not fussy about cc payment. (There's always MEPS Interbank transfer)
The next one would be MBB AMEX which give away 5x points but the admin fee for AMEX is the highest ... so I'll avoid it if I were you.

* I always laugh at those who just started using cc when they say don't want to pay Interbank fees which are RM2. In early 2000, they are RM5. You want to save on RM2 but don't mind spending petrol and parking to go to the bank. Even walking to the bank is an opportunity fee ... I used to skip lunch just to pay my bills, now I do it @ night from the comfort of my home.

About international transaction charges, so far it never appears in my MBB statement or perhaps the charges were added and too insignificant to be noticed. The exchange rates provided are still always better than their counter rate.
*
The transaction amount shown in your statement has already factored in the admin fee and currency conversion. Banks won't show the details on currency conversion to you.

Any Hlb essential user? This card their cash rebate system is base on block of Rm100 is it? Last month i use Rm276,but i only get rebate of Rm2 only, why not Rm 2.70?
Any essential user mind to share your opinion?
*
Previously, its 1% cash back was based on demoniation of RM100. That means, you would only get RM1 cash back if you spend RM199. However, I was informed few months ago that you could receive rebate for every single RM1 you spend. I doubt so, as the information was given by a promoter. Furthermore, HLB used to impose stringent T&Cs for all the promotions.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ May 7 2010, 12:37 AM)
Alliance Bank is so far the only bank that doesn't impose any admin fee for overseas transactions and you get 2x Timeless Points.
*
Do note that the 2x points on overseas transactions are only applicable to Platinum cards.

QUOTE(ronnie @ May 7 2010, 12:41 AM)
just received a RM5000 cheque from Maybank Credit Card... 0% interest for 6 months (but 3.88% cash advance charge)
*
It is a trap. I had rejected so many pre-approved cheques from HLB. Fortunately my existing banks such as SCB, Alliance and MBB do not give (or haven't given) me such rubbish.

QUOTE(HughieRmX @ May 9 2010, 12:55 AM)
Darn it ... just checked my monthly statement and it seems like HLB didn't include the 3X bonus points as mentioned earlier with every CC swipe. Anyone using HLB CC here ?
*
Normally, HLB would only update the information on additional points 1 or 2 months later, or after the expiry of the promotion period.

If you have a premier account from HSBC Malaysia, it will be easier to get a HSBC cc in Singapore if you work there.

My statement always shown the amount of foreign currency charged, and the after-conversion amount to pay. Some simple calculation shows the rate still beat their counter rate, or even the best "money-changer" rate in Sg Wang etc. That's why I am still in doubt of the 1% or 0.5% oversea transaction fee, will walk into the bank and triple check with them.

BTW, ATM card withdrawal through PLUS network at overseas also has pretty good rate, even with the extra charges! This is why I always board a plane with only RM500 in wallet. wink.gif

i guess you can always go for debit card then although I'm not too sure bout dc in SG
i normally use US debit card while I'm in US, though nowadays i'm using my PBB cc coz it's just short term plus lazy to buy paypal funds

unless you get paid in that country's currency, else no point using their cc/dc
i assume you'll be working in SG for the near future

He doesn't need to have a job there in Singapore to get a HSBC Singapore credit card if he already is a HSBC Malaysia Premier customer. He can just request to open a Premier account in Singapore and tell them he wants the HSBC Singapore Premier MasterCard too. Just that easy biggrin.gif I know many HSBC USA Premier clients do this ... to get HSBC Canada Premier MasterCard.

Anyone using corporate credit card here? I was told securecode not supported for corporate card user, is only for personal card user. If this is the case, how to protect yourself from online fraud as merchant can easily obtain the card details from their terminal machine?

Another thing is how to check the credit balance of the card as it is not display together with corporate bank account? Insert into atm machine shows nothing as well.

Why do you need to check?

Well, I just swipe it and if it's goes through, means the credit limit is still not reached yet.
If it cannot go through, I would have to use my personal and wait for claim, usually takes 2 months ~ rclxub.gif

Nope, only Degree/Professional (Architects, Accountants, Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers) certs from Recognised Institutions/Body are considered. Advance diploma, diploma, technical certs are not eligible but you may apply for the regular CIMB cards  smile.gif

To get a card from DA, no need to go that hassle of registering with BEM/IEM as long as you have an engineering degree certificate or any degree certificate is sufficient.

that is compulsory to register with BEM if we are planning to become a Professional Engineer(IR). Sumore, i checked the cimb website, to apply a PLATINUM card for a degree graduate must got salary 80000 per annum , but with IEM member only 24000 per annum
