those who say this film is shit probably never watched the original 1954 version, and liked the 1998 shit remake

in paying homage to the classics, this film did a great job. a godzilla fan will understand

those who watch it for action alone will probably like it, but don't expect the pacific rim level of action
as for normal movie goers.... it depends on what sort of film u like. critics will alway be critics

I give u that.
I am not godzilla fan so i probably dont understand what the fuzz about in this movie.

But for the fan who like it? Good for you

kids nowadays just probably know Godzilla from the 98 shitty version, and i believe they were probably still in diapers when the film was out.

and now most of them wanna become film critics. sad but true :/

the truth is that ... nobody cares what you think lah! tongue.gif

Movie reviews affect less than 10% of box office receipt. If movie review garner ticket sales then all Oscar movies will be on the highest grossing list of all time. The reason that makes people go to cinema is fully influence by star power and advertising.

Bryan Cranston is a brilliant actor. It's the main reason why I watch Godzilla.

there aren't enough screen time for Godzilla, so this film is an epic failure. I don't want to watch another US soldier recruitment film, there's Black Hawk Down for that, not suitable for Godzilla

for those who says we don't get what Godzilla film is all about, i think you are quite mistaken, this film doesn't reflect that at all, it doesn't even get what Godzilla is all about. Westerners can't grasp the concept of this movie, and this one isn't that different from the one from 1998, it just added a few elements that are missing, that's it.

I'm sorry but I have to say it. Bryan Cranston wasn't that good. He was fine, but nothing special. In fact he had a couple of moments of overacting...

Actually... I dun really like the film.

The beginning built up was good. But somewhere in the middle, things started to feel weird and boring.

The final battle was ok, but i think Pacific Rim had done it better.

3/5 for me

personally i thought it was a good movie, but could have been better.

while i do agree the middle portion was a bit stretched out,

the rest was pretty well done.

a bit disappointed though that godzilla's role kinda relegated to secondary character as the movie revolves on how human beings are affected by and reacting towards the monsters.

my score: 7.5/10

generally i feel this film is just to satisfy what godzilla fans failed to get from the 1998 movie. plot, acting etc is not the first priority

or they probably focused too much on that part until the basic elements of a movie is neglected

- good design godzilla - checked
- atomic breath + glowing spines - checked
- godzilla is hunting instead of hunted - checked
- godzilla as the hero - checked
- godzilla didn't die in the end - checked

basicly enough to satisfy most godzilla fans

Loved it. Absolutely loved it. If I were to nitpick, probably the military scenes were a bit more extended but apart from this, FREAKING AWESOME.

The direction taken with this version of Godzilla is incredible.

Watched it on IMAX 3D - - breathaking. When 'Gojira' first appeared.... wow.

Quite possibly the best film I've seen for 2014 (Lego, Cap America, Muppets, Spidey were the others).

P/S: Saw the trailer for "Interstellar" prior to the film... drool.gif An absolute must to see it in IMAX.

Loved it.

Though nobody mentioned this yet, so I'll say it:

The way this movie ends, looks like a setup for a sequel wink.gif

While on the note, I hereby Wiki copy-paste of the critic response of both Godzilla (2014) and the old Godzilla (1998).
and each first sentence goes:

QUOTE
Godzilla (2014): "Godzilla has received positive reviews from film critics."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_(201...tical_reception

QUOTE
Godzilla (1998): "Among mainstream critics in the U.S., the film received generally negative reviews."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_(199...itical_response

So there you have it, folks.
If still not satisfied, go compare them both at all those Rotten Tomatoes, Meta Critics, etc.

EXCLUSIVE: After opening to $103M internationally — the biggest opening of 2014 so far — and grossing $93M domestic stateside this weekend, it should come as no surprise that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros.‘ are already developing a sequel to the monster hit. It was confirmed to Deadline this morning that a Godzilla sequel is underway. The beast is currently stomping across international markets to take No. 1 spots in most territories.

The director stated he want this to be a stand alone movie, a true Godzilla movie to be remembered for the rest of time. Tho the ending does look like a setup for a sequel. I hope they didn't do it. Unless they do 50-50 between human storyline and Godzilla, unlike this one can say 90-10. Godzilla has too little screen time. Too little, period. Even the MUTO has more screen time than Godzilla. Felt like the human storyline is so dull aside from Bryan Cranston brilliant performance. He saved this movie with his brilliant and believable acting. nod.gifnotworthy.gif Without him, I'm sure nobody would be f***in care about the human plot. Aaron Johnson was just okay in this, Elizabeth Olsen tried so hard to be a "mother", while Ken Watanabe, his role in this movie is laughable man. Kjap macham important man, kjap macham useless pun ada. laugh.gif Overall its a good movie, I didn't have any problem with it, (totally kick ass the 98 dumbzilla version) but I need more screen time of the big fat chubby and adorable Gojira! wub.gif wub.gif

Btw for those who watched the original 1954 movie, does Gojira has little screen time too? hmm.gif
