KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd (SME) will on Thursday, April 15, kick off the Samsung–Astro B.yond HD Promotion to bring high definition (HD) viewing experience closer to Malaysian viewers.

According to a statement on Wednesday, SME said with any purchase of Samsung LED or LCD TV (40" and above), customers will get one year of Astro B.yond HD service for free.

As part of the Astro B.yond HD service, customers will get the new B.yond box, new smart card, new outdoor unit dish, HD Multimedia Interface (HDMI) cable, new remote control and one-year of access to Astro B.yond HD channels — namely HBO HD, National Geographic HD, History HD, ESPN HD and Astro SuperSport HD, corresponding to their current Astro package subscription. The promotion starts on Thursday and ends June 31.

SME's managing director Yu Jai Sul said, "It is an exciting time for us. By being first to bring full HD 3D LED TV to Malaysian homes, we felt compelled to continue our industry leadership by being the first to work with Astro to make HD viewing pleasure a reality."

To further enhance the full HD 3D experience, Samsung Malaysia Electronics will also be giving away a 3D kit worth RM999 (comprising two sets of Samsung 3D glasses and a feature-length 3D Blu-ray version of DreamWorks Animation's 2009 release Monsters vs Aliens) and a Blu-ray disc player worth RM1,499. By topping up another RM1,000, customers may bring home a 3D Blu-ray player worth RM2,499.

hello guys.. just switch to b.yond... having trouble to fav channel... can TS put it on 1st post.. regarding fav channel setting.. or they arent any.. i search already.. dont know it is solve by sifu here or not..
*

What kind of problem? If you want to add, it's pretty straight forward. Just add using red button during channel banner.
If you want to scroll, press 'OK'-->green button-->select favorite then you can scroll info for your fav channel using left/right button
Or press 'OK'-->fav button to switch channel in your fav channel list.
Hope this will help

Sorry to all but I am just want to voice out some suggestions

This thread was 1st opened up named Astro Byond V1.0.. The purpose was to discuss the introduction of Astro Byond
We were all discussing the new HDTV experience available to Malaysians
V2.0 and V3.0 was mainly about the pros and cons of Byond
We discussed about new channels, tech stuff regarding and Byond among other things

However as we are now in V4.0, I see this thread becoming a bit quiet and running out of topics regarding Byond
A lot of the talk revolves around Astro's programming, channels coming soon, channels wanted and a lot others
I see when one of the topic discussed was comparing Singapore and Malaysia's TV programmming, some asked for others to not go off topic and return to the topic..
My question is, what is the main topic?
We are running out of topic when related to just Astro Byond

I am only here to give a suggestion..
I know many would be angry with me and please I'm not disrespecting apexg2, the person responsible for setting up this now famous thread..

I just want to suggest why not we rename this thread to something like all things related to Astro programming or satellite Tv
This way we will have broader issues that we can share and discuss together
Maybe other forumers who have inside information or secret knowledge about Astro can come and join and share info with us..
Maybe before this they dont want to come to this thread seeing it was related to Astro Byond
But if we freshen things up and make the thread have broader topics related to satellite Tv programming mainly Astro, we can get better topics to discuss

I am not saying that we should rename this thread straight away..
But lest say if we are to move on to V5.0, we could rename the thread..
The thread has run its course..
It has been helpful and exciting
But lest freshen things up and make a decision that can be more beneficial to all of us..

Just a suggestion..if we were to continue like this then I dont have much problem
But some forumers here dont like it when we talk a little out of the box or talk a bit broader on the topic..

Thanks

Just read my previous post carefully, it's better if you're with byond set in front of you now.

If you want to surf your fav channel:
Press 'OK'-->fav (bottom left button at remote) to switch between channel in your fav channel list.

If you want to check channel info before switching to other fav channel:
Press 'OK'-->green button-->select 'favorite' then you can scroll info for your fav channel using left/right button.
Press 'OK' again to switch

I also dun have a prob if the discussion is a bit out of topic, but you can relate it somewhere, just dun totally out of topic. It makes this thread alive when there is no controversy biggrin.gif , else this thread will buried down there.. just my 2 cents icon_rolleyes.gif

wa.....so long...

thanks for ur advice and suggestion...really appreciate about wut u are saying.....ok,like this.
Astro Byond thread are dediacated to the byonders or becoming byonders or who want to know abt byond...it is true that threaders sometimes run some other unrelated topics but many here will always remind them...abt the singaporean and malaysian, i think its ok coz it still discuss abt channel...and then if they fire some others, it goes to their private and they should be remind to stick on the topic.

the suggestion is good but we have to remember, the main point is byond and not the astro channel thread...so, we have to stick it....and i think this thread is one of the fastest thread in LYN forum..if not mistaken la......but i still appreciate ur intension regarding this issue....i will make my best abt wut u r saying and same oso other forummers...thanks a lot...cheers bro!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

As a RULE, for every one 3D TV you get one 3D glasses. The RM999 is the cost of two glasses, not the 3D version of Monsters Vs Aliens. Essentially, the 3D kit only costs RM500 for the glasses as the BD is a promotional item Samsung already paid for. So unless you're getting THREE pairs of 3D glasses, Samsung is only giving away RM500.

Makes no sense to buy a 3D TV and not get a 3D BD, since no HD channels in Malaysia has that. The 3D BD player from Samsung costs around RM1300.

If I was buying Samsung's TV, I'd rather buy the Panasonic 3D BD player. At least it has 2 HDMI output, which makes upgrading the receiver redundant.

Yes.

As for the 3D testing in SG, if Astro wants to be among the first to test 3D TV, they can do so with the subscribers they have with the Samsung promotion. All that is required is for Astro to update the channel lineup. The satellite already can accommodate the extra bandwidth the 3D channel require, especially since the 10 HD channels Astro is supposed to give us is not yet online.

sincere apologies for causing some sidetracking of the topic....just wanted to clarify certain misconception of the channels available on the Astro platform, i.e. whether subtitles are available on HBO HD channel.

HBO HD only has Chinese, Thai & Indo subtitles - a fren has confirmed no English or bahasa subtitles.

Also, HBO Family, HBO Hits & HBO Signature are all in SD contrary to someone who commented in an earlier posts that they are in HD.

Btw, BBC World News & DW-TV are in widescreen format….if u are still getting them in 4:3, demand Astro to offer in widescreed SD 16:9.

Let me know if you need me to answer any channel queries.

I hand over the forum back to all.

Cheers & Enjoy the World Cup! biggrin.gif

That's it. Widescreen channel doesn't have to be in HD. SD is fine too. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

I think I made that statement. Maybe it's not true in SG but it is true in the US, which is what I was referring to.

Guys! I am having this strange problem with Beyond. The satellite signal is not locked and there's no signal reading but i am getting the pictures!!I called the Astro fellas and they sent a Tech the next day to troubleshoot, it seems that this problem is "normal" and Astro is doing some tests and he suggested that i use the 8th or 18th Band to tune in and the signal bounced back to normal on those bands but the next day same thing happened on both bands. Yesterday i "rebooted" the decoder and i got back the signals. lol Any of u guys having this kinda problem? To be fair - broadcast is stable even when it's raining no pixelisations or disruptions..

CORRECTION:

STAR World and STAR Movies are under STAR TV,

STAR TV is owned by News Corp.

Meanwhile FOX is under News Corp.

I wonder how will the firmware of the Byond box handles the recording later. Will it follow the start and stop times in the EPG? If that's the case, some programs will lose the endings, as lately many programs end after the scheduled end time, sometimes up to five minutes. Hopefully Astro will address this.

for Astro Max, you have the option to choose whether you want to extend the recording for 5 minutes to 60 minutes more than EPG time...
I always choose to extend my recording for at least 5 minutes when I was using Astro Max before change to Byond... smile.gif
but unfortunately, Astro byond will only allows us to record the channels that we're watching at that time.. since Byond did not have dual satellite tuner like Max
