Every time you post something like this, I think your blood pressure goes up. So for your own health's sake, don't read this thread. And stop subscribing to Astro if they are causing you this much anxiety.
*
I would, except that now they want RM500 if I cancel, say I signed two year contract. My contract was for one year! Even the contract copy I have said 1 year!

Not only the salesperson tell lies to get you to sign, they do trickery to your contract as well and make you cannot cancel for longer than the contract says! mad.gif vmad.gif

QUOTE(writesimply @ Apr 13 2010, 02:33 AM)
And they wouldn't want foreign channels either; they'd want local channels to be in HD. That's going to be a lot more money to spend than getting deals from HD channels because each 44-minute episode is going to cost RM50-80,000.
*
When I sign up for satellite, the last thing I want is local programming. I'm sure there are many who feels that way too, especially expats. It's sad to hear/see that Asstro is still in their little world of their own, and thanks to big daddy gomen's protection, don't have to care if people are angry or not.

I think it's time for you to try something more sophisticated, try hurling some molotov cocktail at their HQ.

I think nobody has any authority here to say to another forumer to stop subscribing to something if he is not happy with it. Typical attitude no wonder everybody gets away ! If you are not happy here in this forum you may leave nothing gives you the right to say such things. Its rude to say to another forumer to terminate and shut up ! Here everyone has the right to pour out thier greivances. We are not looking for defenders here cos whatever highlighted here was the truth and about things we felt were not right. Not happy with what we talk you may go friend !

That's why I dare not compare Astro with neighbourhood countries, I can only compare it with local RTM1,2, TV3 .... that way I feel better tongue.gif

Sorry if I'm too extreme here, but I think Astro has been making (and will continue to) tons of money through monopoly & protection, this is the fact & cannot be deny. It is not a question whether they can make money or not, it's a question how much more they can get from us and at which price level consumers are still willing to pay for it "whole-heartedly" cool2.gif

But what other Astro-type of choices do we have here?
End of the day, unless we give-up, we are merely at their mercy.

Then you could engage yourself a lawyer and find out if the B.yond contract is for one or two. I doubt it's for a two-year contract especially if the copy is right in front of you.

As others have said, it's only a two-year contract if you are a new subscriber to Astro.

We'll wait until you sort this problem out. Do let us know.

Seriously though, if you judge from how popular Akademi Fantasia and Astro Ceria and even Vaanavil is doing, you'd find that the majority of subscribers want local content. People who want foreign programming - including expats - are in the minority.

Being in the minority doesn't mean they don't care that you're not satisfied but they probably can't justify the cost. You will get some of what you want but not all of what you want. You can't please everybody all of the time.

In some countries, this constitutes a threat. If you said that about the American president, you'd be on their bad boy list.

QUOTE(smileguy @ Apr 13 2010, 11:51 AM)

That runs contrary to the concept of a forum. I have the authority to say/suggest but I don't have the authority to implement/control. You can vent all you want in a forum but if that doesn't get you anywhere, you should be doing something else to get the matter resolved.

He's not happy with Astro and wants to terminate. That is his authority and his right to do so. He can vent until he's blue in the face but that only gets him angrier. The root problem is still unsolved. If a bee stings you, are you going to vent at the bee or are you going to get your sting taken care of?

QUOTE

See above.

QUOTE
Its rude to say to another forumer to terminate and shut up !
1) He does want to terminate.

2) I didn't tell him to shut up. If he's not happy, he can do other stuff that can make him happy. Clearly just thinking about Astro is not making him happy.

QUOTE
Here everyone has the right to pour out thier greivances.
See above.

Apart from the issue of the switch-a-roo of a two-year contract, has Astro misrepresented their intentions regarding B.yond programming?

Have they said, "If we ever become a signal re-transmitter, we would definitely be providing those channels as well?"

Have they given us a specific timetable with exact dates as to when new HD channels is going to take place?

Have they said that B.yond is going to have the same bandwidth as Blu-ray Disc?

Have they said that all the HD channels will have burnt subtitles by April 1st?

What you think they should be doing is not the same as what they promised you what the service would be. You can be angry all you want at Astro but be fair with your criticisms.

It is rather funny how we often compare to our neighbors but we compare UP and not down.

Do you have another electricity provider? Water supply? How about garbage disposal?

Malaysia is not that big a country so having two or more satellite TV providers is not economically viable, not unless those providers make the bulk of their income from being signal re-transmitters. But unlike the service providers above, you do have alternatives to your entertainment - from just what's outside your door (real world) to downloads (hmmm) and prepackaged media.

My biggest gripe about the HD channels: the Dolby Digital 5.1 comes encoded with Dialog Normalization. DialNorm should be turned off, at least for the 5.1 tracks.

Yeah........I watch it also yesterday. Very clear from all angles. Inside the car, outside the car, around the race track........everywhere !!! F1 should learn from them as fast as they can.

Wooooooohhhhoooooooo..
This thread is getting interesting again..
I was just going to complain about how this thread was becoming soooooo sleeeepppyy
No more controversies regarding Byond
No more problem
Yipppeeee some people have found a new topic to debate

Added on April 13, 2010, 1:10 pmTo fuad..

I respect u for all ur opinions because u back it up with good reasoning and facts..
Thats the main thing
Sometimes we can talk so much but its mere talk rather than facts..
U seem to be a sifu here..
Can i ask u a question?
Its regarding channels on Astro..
What international channels do u realistically see that will end up on Astro?
Some people here say that Astro want to provide in house content and only channels that listen to them?
Is that true?
What is the meaning of Astro want channles to listen to them?
Thanks

I'm going to just bite the bullet. Nothing I can do.

I'm done melepaskan geram now.

Sorted out with another call to customer support. Previous cs rep who answered the call is clueless and called out the wrong thing, this other cs rep say I'm no longer under any obligation as my contract has expired and can terminate with no penalty.

I know a number of malaysian who religiously watch ABC HD and Fox HD series just 3-4 hours later than they are broacasted in the US. If you can't get it by one mean, find another.

That's why I feel better to compare with the "down" not the "up", so Astro definitely more "up" cool.gif

Compare TV entertainment provider with public ultities & services?? Hmmmmm, I rather not to ....
But again, it would be interesting to see how much we are willing to pay for say if we want tap water to be drinkable and Tenaga can supply 110voltage?? wink.gif

It's true that we do have other "alternatives" to get TV entertainment out there, but if talk about download.... er, with "SlowMax" ?? I rather give-up !! icon_question.gif

Anywhere, personally I think it's reasonable for an additional monthly RM20 for HD feature, I was told even those SD channels also look better --> this is the main factor for me to upgrade. Furthermore, now it comes with LIFE-TIME warranty for the decoder, remote control, HDMI cable & the disc. rclxms.gif

I'm now waiting for my B'yond to be installed, really can't wait to experience it with new Plasma!! drool.gif
