QUOTE(writesimply @ May 29 2010, 11:13 PM) You say this as if you are expecting Unifi or some other HD provider in Malaysia is going to deliver Discovery HD to you faster. There were no questions in my comments, bro, try to understand the gist of the comment, there was an earlier lecture for u pls attend to that, thanx Would they want you to subscribe to all? Yes. Would you be forced to? No. Think of it from their perspective. If somebody who subscribes to everything gets B.yond, that somebody would realize that the 5 HD channels are not spread out. What he said. Upconverting works great if the source is given as much bandwidth and as little compression as possible. SD channels on Astro is not that. But if you love HD, then B.yond is a great addition to BDs. fuad Added on May 30, 2010, 7:29 am QUOTE(Qash-M @ May 30 2010, 01:37 AM) Actually 201 has only daily reports of the games nothing more. This post has been edited by smileguy: May 30 2010, 07:29 AM |

Regardless of your comedic intention in your post, in a situation where information is scarce, people latch on to the latest piece of "info" they can find until the real fact starts pouring in. Let's not create misinformation for people who want to learn about B.yond. QUOTE There was no lecture.fuad |

QUOTE(liverpool red @ May 30 2010, 08:54 AM) Hmm i cant seem to find any of the international friendlies today on the sports HD channels when i was on the astro site but then again, the astro site is so outdated, ESPN HD is like becoming the UCL channel already We couldn't agree with you more. In fact we are concerned about it and you will see massive changes to the site and the EPG very soon. In fact I'm personally working on improving the EPG. So this week you will be getting news of some big changes and I'll give you a little heads up. PVR is coming. there are 2 types of PVR. The PVR will allow recording of full quality broadcast so if you are recording HD you get HD playback. 1) Will be for existing b.yond decoder where you plug in a HDD into the back of the system. I've been testing this for a while now and it's a little gem. THe HDD must be a drive that meets our power consumtion white paper for the decoder and at the moment the only one that I'm aware of that does this is a WD HDD (I'm using a WD My Passport AV). Others suck up too much power and they will will not work. THe recording quality is broadcast quality, so HD is played back in HD. 2) is the a new decoder with in built PVR. it's got 2 tuners so allows recording of 2 simulateous shows and if I've got this rigth playback of a 3rd all at the same time. Personally I've not tested this box. It will require a special dual LNB that naturally have 2 cables coming to the box to feed the two tuners. The PVR features aren't just about recording I find that the pause live broadcast feature is awesome. My phone rings, my baby craps her nappy or what ever I just hit pause and deal with it and then come back and hit play to take off from where I left. Another little secret I discovered is that not only can you pause but rewind to watch that goal again and lets say you've been watching a programme from the start and you really get it into it and want to watch it again then just hit record. If you haven't changed channel during the broadcast of the show the HDD will automatically go back and keep the recording of the entire show for you. The major thing you will find is that you watch TV differently. No longer do you just turn the box on and watch, now you turn the box on and sellect what you want to watch from the recording you have made. Kind of TiVo like. To make this recording function better then the old astro max we are spending a lot of time improving the quality of the EPG. shortly you'll notice the start times of programmes will be far more accurate. As you know Malaysian law requires that we censor programmes & remove foregin commercials before they are broadcast and we do this in almost all our international channels live with a special delay system that holds the incoming video until it is edited and then it gets published. Problem with a PVR and this delay system is that you often would miss the end part of a show as it ran over the EPG scheduled time. We will be tweaking our EPG to compensate for this. This is going to be a busy week for Astro and I hpoe you like what is coming. Sorry I've been MIA on here, working on the data behind the EPG and my new baby girl click HERE (isn't she cute!) has meant that I've been too busy to drop by. Got any questions drop then on my blog. I reply to everyone and I do not censor your comments. Cheers all Justin |

QUOTE(Qash-M @ May 30 2010, 04:39 PM) It means the new built-in PVR decoder has 2 tuners and you can't split the cable from the standard LNB you get with normal B.yond (signal loss and reduced quality). So to get 2 signals into the new PVR B.yond it has to come direct from a dual LNB which has an output of 2 cables that run direct from the dish to the decoder. This only applies to the new decoder it has nothing to do with the current b.yond box which has one tuner hence one cable coming from a standard LNB.This post has been edited by TallJustin: May 30 2010, 04:54 PM |

Others suck up too much power and they will will not work. THe recording quality is broadcast quality, so HD is played back in HD. I understand how the white paper requires a HDD that consumes a maximum amount of voltage from the B.yond decoder, but what about HDDs that have their own external power supply, like 1/2TB external HDDs? Theoretically they should work since all they are taking from the PC/B.yond box is the data. Having 1TB external HDD connecting to B.yond would mean that subscribers do not need to upgrade their HDDs every so often, or having to delete programs. QUOTE 2) is the a new decoder with in built PVR. it's got 2 tuners so allows recording of 2 simulateous shows and if I've got this rigth playback of a 3rd all at the same time. Personally I've not tested this box. It will require a special dual LNB that naturally have 2 cables coming to the box to feed the two tuners. On your second point, it sounds like you'd need a dual-SIM card system for the PVR. It also suggests that the LNB must tune to different streams to record them both. Enlighten us as to how LNB tuning per channel works. On your first point, are you saying that PVR records the two channels being broadcasted while playing back content previously recorded? Yes, this indeed how Tivo works. I do hope that the PVR/B.yond recording function would allow a cache (roughly about 30 minutes) of video being temporarily recorded as you are watching a channel. That way if you find that program is interesting, you could press record and the cache will make it possible that you have the entire program from the start. Congrats, Justin! fuad |
