Looks like you unifi is really up to speed. Mine is not that good yet. I have communicated with unifi support about the speed issue. They called to make appointment to come to my house. That is the difficult part, finding the free time.

It would seem that they have to tweak the fiberhome modem locally to resolve speed issues instead of doing it by remote?

What's the speed you're getting? Are you in TTDI?
Maybe I'm getting really good speeds because my line is the only one connected to the fibre distribution box at the street I'm staying. She was a virgin and I popped the cherry. rclxm9.gif

Wanted to upgrade to UNIFI today from my yet to be installed Streamyx...but have to wait 1 whole month!!! Forget it, i'll fix the 4MB streamyx...unless later the technician say my house cannot support 4MB, then only i'll consider unifi.

Got my unifi. Installation was not as smooth as I expected.

The problem was the port was the port was not activated by Network Operation Center. It's just a process problem that TM is sorting out (hence that's why they are having a limited implementation). Should be much much smoother..

VDSL2 is very much different from FTTH implementation. For VDSL2, the ports will need to be activated prior to installation, whilst for FTTH - the port is already activated. As mine, is one the first few VDSL2 implementation, they are kinda a bit rough with regards to the process. But still, the installers are very determined to get my Unifi sorted out. Kudos to them.

The installation for VDSL2 - is very much like Streamyx, plug in the VDSL2 modem, configure username and password... connect the IPTV and STB.. then you are done. If not of the port problem, my Unifi would have been up in less than 30 mins.. keh keh keh..

Anyway - speed is great... Just test downloaded a 350MB file from usenet.. it took roughly 3mins... wink.gif

1. internet's good, didn't really bother much about the phone and iptv service
2. on 5mb package. my area only supports up to 1mb for streamyx, so compared to 1mb blockbuster rm110 it's worth it
3. for internet none so far. phone rates as advertised. for iptv vod they will reset to 100.1k points every month, each vod video only costs 10 points.
4. no hidden charge so far, installation hardware, cables, cable housing all free as promised

1. Service is great. Technician did excelent, they seal the wall after drill/cabling so rain wont get in. All cables will be covered by the white pvc plastic so wont look messy(helpfull when i put modem upstairs & STB downstairs). + after install they will sweep the floor/vacuum clean the dust from drilling. Can start surf/watch tv/phone immediately after install.
2. mine is VIP5. worth every penny, watch youtube 1080p smooth(some vids). line very stable so far download max ~650kB/s, upload havent max yet 500kB/s++
3. no monthly usage limit, they canceled it, but may implement it later
4. hidden charge if you want extra stuff like the homeplug (lan using powerline, not sure what brand they use). rm250 for a pair. they do carry it in their van, unless no stock. They will charge it on your next bill (on July, no need to pay on that day). No money involve during install. IPTV charges may come in September/October.. when package like astro + ESPN start airing biggrin.gif ...so no world cup on UniFi, next season EPL maybe?. <according to the technician

Anyway, just posting an update on the IPTV on PC subject.

When I first noticed that VLAN 500 (internet) had a PPPoE layer but VLAN 600 (IPTV) did not, I assumed the IPTV streams were open for browsing without authentication. I got to work and managed to get it running on my PC.

However, it seems that less than 24 hours after I posted the screenshot of me running Luxe HD on my laptop's Windows Media Center along with some configuration info, TM either by random luck or by monitoring this forum thread decided to scramble the Luxe HD stream. I really don't see the point in this except to force us to use their lame set top box. Other ISPs which provide IPTV also provide their users an m3u playlist with the channel names and UDP multicast addresses so that they may connect to their IPTV service via their PCs. Furthermore, if people wanted to 'pirate' the content they would just use a HDMI capture card if the streams were scrambled.

I'd go into descrambling the streams (basically what the STB does) but it's illegal and would be like trying to tap into paid satellite broadcasts using software emulation. Except in this case it's a fiber optic cable pulled directly into your home so I doubt anyone is going to tap the line in the first place.

Right now, the only streams which are not scrambled are the PIP (picture in picture) streams which use the h264 codec @ 320x240(?) res which is basically like watching a Youtube video in standard def. There's really no point in me posting the media center configuration guide but if you guys are still interested in light channel surfing via your wireless router, the PIP streams are pretty okay to watch and only require VLC player and a single m3u playlist file.

I'm going to attach the playlist file I made which contains all the channel -> multicast address information. All you need to do to use it is to have your laptop network card in DHCP mode (no static IP set, obtain automatically) and plug it into the *red* IPTV port on the back of your TM DIR-615 router. When it gets an IP in the 10.x.x.x range, open up the playlist file in VLC and select the channel you want to watch.

I still think their STB is shit (lack of recording feature, laggy, etc) and by forcing us to use it, it makes their IPTV service shit too. For those of you who have complained about the IPTV picture's poor quality and 'flickering'/'shaking'.. its not due to their stream but rather because of the crap STB itself. I had excellent IPTV image quality when using my PC as a media center (not to mention the ability record and rewind streams). So petition to TM to unencrypt the streams and maybe we can have some better quality IPTV here.

DDL from Microsoft. I was also downloading a file on another PC, hence the spike.
