Probably but it has to support VLAN tagging.. this means custom firmware like dd-wrt.

Rizzy, if we connect the Fibermodem to a 5 Port Smart Switch (SW). Port 1 of the SW connect to the Fibermodem. Port 2 of the SW to a router and Port 3 to the set-top-box. Can the Port 4 & 5 of the SW be used?

Can we connect a PC to Port 4 or 5 and we can share files etc with PCs connected to the router on Port 2?
Are PCs connected to Port 4/5 on a different network from the ones connected to the router?

Don't think so. You'll want to place all your PCs behind the router that's connected at Port 2. The Smart Switch is just used to separate the VLANs and assign them to a physical port. This is because your *own* router and the STB are not aware of the VLAN tags. The TM router is aware of the VLAN tags and therefore can forward all VLAN ID 600 traffic to the physical IPTV port and VLAN ID 500 Internet traffic to the other 3 LAN ports.

Another reason is because Port 2 will be wired into the Internet/WAN port on your own router. This means only PPPoE traffic intended for WAN communication will be able to pass through there. You can have a PC on port 4 and 5 but they will only be able to communicate with each other and nothing else.

FYI, I'm doing more testing and I've confirmed that the Fiberhome modem only allows 1 of its physical ports to access VLAN traffic at a time. You cannot have 2 or more VLAN aware devices plugged into the Fiberhome modem at the same time. If you have say 2 TM Dlink routers plugged into the Fiberhome modem, only the first one you plugged in will be able to use the IPTV and Internet VLAN resources. The second one will have no access at all.

I'm not sure really. I opened it up to look inside and noticed a 5 pin connector however based on the markings on the board, it looks more like a jumper than a JTAG port. There might be one under the metallic EMF shielding where the main chips are but I didn't open it because it looked like it was soldered down. Don't want to brick my only Unifi router sweat.gif I'll take some pics later when I find my digi cam

And no, I don't have a JTAG cable at the moment doh.gif

http://www.unifi.my/unifi/images/pdf/btu_onu.pdf

Fiberhome manual. No reset switch, console says 'For local equipment debugging. Not open to subscribers.'

well the backup battery will be useless if your router, PC got no backup battery.
I think the battery is not so useful for residential use.

Looks like you unifi is really up to speed. Mine is not that good yet. I have communicated with unifi support about the speed issue. They called to make appointment to come to my house. That is the difficult part, finding the free time.

It would seem that they have to tweak the fiberhome modem locally to resolve speed issues instead of doing it by remote?

Anybody here has a VDSL2 implementation (for high rise building?).

Am getting mine in a few hours time, will report to you guys how the implementation goes. By right it'll just be like Streamyx.
