Guys u need to understand P2P concept...1MB from US is quite ok actually. Imagine 100 ppl in Malaysia with 1MB downloading the same anime like Naruto from US. U will be leeching each other at that time time. Unleast u download direct http from US site..then cannot do anything lar. But still, the price byte to byte, fiber optic is the future. Imagine download a movie 1.5gb in just 1hr. Don't think streamyx can do that. And i believe now is just hot only...there will be a time...downloading also boring dah. Nothing to download..hahah

Actually streamyx 4Mb can download more than 1.5GB per hour.

At the moment, no traffic caps, no bandwidth issues.. no real need for a local p2p system. The only people it would benefit are Streamyx users but then again they'll all be leeching since their upload is 50KB/s maximum. Installs just started on 29th for retail so maybe if we wait a month or two, there will be a Unifi users thread then we can organize a new system. It'll probably help reduce the impact of p2p on our international links and keep the surfing speed up.

1.5GB in 1 hour? 4mbps Streamyx can do that. Unifi is like 1.5gb in 10 - 14 minutes

Ya u really make a point, its something to be considered. If this ideology works out, everyone on all ISP's will benefit. Best to start rolling out the plan now itself. rclxms.gif

I think storage/hard disk company is really going to benefit, since TM launch HSBB. Im sure their hd sales going to double fold.

I wonder.. is it possible to have 2 Unifi accounts in 1 house? If yes, will they have to pull 2 separate cables?

tm did something at uniFi website
*The monthly download volume policy will not be implemented until further notice.
they add this
and tm number to tm number is FREE b4 but now they change to 5SEN/minit
walao
suka suka then change
no black n white
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
DUN SIGN UP!

You have to remember that there are many phone lines belong to Time and Maxis.
If you call those numbers, you will be charged as those numbers are not TM numbers.
So, be prepared to have charges in your phone bill.

Not really.
It's just that I have 2 Streamyx accounts at home, the primary one will be upgraded to UniFi 20MB next Thursday, the secondary one is a Streamyx Combo 2MB account... I figured I might as well just upgrade both accounts at one go > upgrade the 2MB combo account to UniFi 5MB since the price difference is minimal (+RM29).

I read this article. It highlights the consequences of a very important, and shortsighted, design decision that was made for the Malaysian HSBB installation.

Rather than actually doing point-to-point fiber from each home to a central point, the fiber runs in Malaysia are aggregated with passive splitters in each neighborhood. This has two major effects:

1) It is much more difficult to unbundle the fiber from access. That is, it helps to preserve TM's monopoly position which is definitely not in Malaysia's best interest.

2) It increases the chance that in a few years, the streets will have to be torn up again to install new fiber.

Too bad there is not more open public oversight of government in Malaysia, it would save everyone a lot of money in the long run.

Yea sometimes i just wish there was another isp(maxis or time maybe?)to compete with tm by laying their own fiber network. This of course needs huge capex.Gomen just don't want to unbundle it cuz tm is still GLC.....damn...

Guess most of us are stuck with tm fiber forever and ever....

It's hardly a day since installation completed in my house, so far the results look promising. I wouldn't be too quick to judge it yet though.

oh yeah..for your info...this fiber thing...can go up to 100mb. The launch pad that day doing in dataran merdeka is actually single cable 100mb. They will be slowly open up, the bandwidth. Every year they will be paying more and more for the international link. So expect faster connection in this few years. When i applying that time, the guy actually told me that, TM actually behind schedule...this project suppose to be few years back. a lot of country actually using this...

Im amaze actually by looking at a beehoo size of a cable...can hit up to 100mb. The cable actually very sensitive...they have to use alcohol to clean the tip of the cable first, before cliping it...making it as a cable. Your connection speed is very much depending on the way they make the cable. any dirt on it...will reduce badly.
