QUOTE(rizvanrp @ Apr 1 2010, 10:58 AM) The best part about half (or more) of the people complaining about Unifi here is that they can't even sign up for it yet because they're not covered.. and when users who have ALREADY signed up for it and are using it post their experiences, they get told off for being morons. It's as though you people think that if Unifi eventually gets capped, we won't be able to access the internet by any other means at all.So whatever, I'll be enjoying my 20mbps access, 190ms latency in WoW and 3ms latency in local FPS servers while you troll about a company and a service you can't even apply for. Likes this.

QUOTE(xpresside @ Apr 1 2010, 11:00 AM) With 4mbps Streamyx and tunneling, you can already hit 194ms on servers like Tichondrius. FTTH reduces the base latency which is added by ATM encapsulation and copper infrastructure (about 10ms+). I wouldn't be surprised if you can get 18x ms in game now.

For those of you are have signed up for unifi, if you know how to use FTP, help me get some transfer statistics.
server: ftp.hawk85.com user: unifi pass: speedtest
I've set the account limit to 1GB, the server has a lot of unutilised bandwidth. So upload some files, and others can download, so we can get a bit of a benchmark.

I have nothing against people who provide a valid reason to complain about the service as long as they stick to it. Coverage, bandwidth caps, service fees and whatnot. Upload went from 300KB/s to 930KB/s, stable for a bit, went back down to 300ish and went up to 900.. repeat. Single thread btw Update : Single thread 100mb test file upload. Fluctuates between 500KB/s - 1MB/s. Upload speed graph is in green over a 2.4MB/s scale. Single thread 100mb test file download. Fluctuates but averages at 450KB/s (bout 4mbps). Download speed graph is in blue over a 1.09MB/s scale. --- Randomly decided to ping a local server, pretty amazing : 1ms locally This post has been edited by rizvanrp: Apr 1 2010, 11:34 AM

Not too shabby Server is located in the US and its a shared hosting account, so I figured it would be a good way to test for the lowest common denominators. Quite impressed with the speed actually. Though I wonder why the speed goes up and down like that, its rather consistent in its behaviour.

Someone else might be using rapidleech or the server line might be under load. Whatever the case, once the HSBB user base grows and we set up a local p2p system.. it'll be guaranteed 20mbps/10mbps/5mbps both ways D: This post has been edited by rizvanrp: Apr 1 2010, 11:37 AM

QUOTE(silverhawk @ Apr 1 2010, 11:39 AM) do your other uploads/downloads from other sites/servers exhibit this behavior? For my local servers (Jaring and TM), 1 thread upload/download maxes the line out at 20mbps flat out. No fluctuations. International servers, it varies from case to case and depending what protocol I'm using. BT is really stable though.

What's the rough average you're getting from the international sites?

Uhm.. using firefox's standard download window, on international sites like the US it starts off at 200KB/s then maxes out around 900KB/s+. I can't really say because I rarely download without using DownThemAll which gives me 1.9-2.3MB/s everywhere @ 10 concurrent connections lol

Shouldn't be fiber optic has lower latency? From what I see now it is still more or less the same with ADSL. What could be the cause?

QUOTE(BlueWind @ Apr 1 2010, 11:47 AM) Shouldn't be fiber optic has lower latency? From what I see now it is still more or less the same with ADSL. What could be the cause? It does have lower latency. Take my 4mbps Streamyx.. ping to TM servers is 15-20ms, Unifi is only 1-2ms tops. It cuts off over 10ms. They probably also use different routes but the technology itself definitely gives it an edge over ADSL. Added on April 1, 2010, 11:52 am This is Youtube HD video speeds. Very stable and always above 1.5MB/s for any video.. pretty damn amazing Video loads 5x the play speed This post has been edited by rizvanrp: Apr 1 2010, 11:52 AM

Or is it TM is not competent enough for managing the network well?

QUOTE(ston3r @ Apr 1 2010, 09:54 AM) it's worst in bangsar. I signed up last friday and was told that the installation would be scheduled yesterday. I received a call from their CS saying that they need to reschedule me another week ahead! Now i'll have to wait till next Wed before they would do any installation. My installation done yesterday. The installer told me there are 8 teams in bangsar with each team being allocated only one installation per day. If they finish early then they might do two installations in a day. For VIP package, they are currently allowing up to 7 hours per installation due to the need to configure the IPTV. This post has been edited by ProComplex: Apr 1 2010, 11:55 AM

International latency is hard to control. The fibre local latency is amazing as has been posted by some of the users. As a previous metrofon user, I can tell you that local pings are great. However, if you're going international, depending on where your traffic is routed your ping will always increase. Its not like you have fibre optic connections all the way to every server in the world.

I should be getting my Unifi next week. For those of you that have done your installation, do you keep all the equipments together at the same place? Is it possible to keep the btu and the gateway in one place and the dect phone and set top box in another place? The reason i'm asking this is bcos it will be a little inconvenient to keep all the equipments at the same place near your tv as the tv will usually be in the living room and I usually use my notebook in the room. Hope someone here can clarify. Thanks
