Nintendo has just announced the launch details and final features of the 3DS at its conference in Japan.

The Nintendo 3DS will launch in Japan on February 26, 2011 at a price of 25,000 yen ($US300). This is the same price the Wii launched at in Japan so expect it to be around the same price as the Wii was on launch in your country (Ouch!). It will launch in the rest of the world in March.

The design of the console has been locked in and is more-or-less exactly the same as the version shown at E3 with the exception of a different coloured d-pad. The system will launch in 'Aqua Blue' (the blue-black design shown at E3) and 'Cosmos Black' (straight black). It is a pity that the popular red-black 3DS seems nowhere to be found.

The 3DS will have a virtual console feature that will allow Gameboy & Gameboy Color games games to be played on the system. The 3DS will also feature Miis. The system will come the software 'Mii Studio' which will allow you to create Miis. It will even let you take a photo of yourself and automatically create a Mii for you.

The system will have a more robust wifi system, allowing you to share data through tag mode when the system is asleep even when the same game is not being played. The example given was that Super Street Fighter 3DS will automatically download ghost data and other records from passing 3DSs. The more games you play that support tag mode, the more data you will download from passing people. No information has been given as to the state of the online support on the system or whether friend codes will make a return or not, but the system will feature a internet browser of its own.

According the a rough translation of the spec sheet, you will be able to transfer DSiware from your DSi console to the 3DS. This is fantastic news for all those people who already own a DSi and would like to keep their DSiware with them on the 3DS. The sheet mentions that you will only be able to move software a limited amount of times and some software is not capable of being moved (DSi browser etc one would suspect).

The Nintendo 3DS comes bundled with a charger stand (above), an AC adapter, a 10cm Nintendo 3DS touch pen, a 2GB SD card, six augmented reality cards as well as instruction booklets.

According to Nintendo, the new functions include a slide pad, a motion sensor and a gyro-sensor.

The portable will have parental controls like the Nintendo DSi and the DSi XL portables before it.

It is possible to play games downloaded off the 3DS's Virtual Console as well as games downloaded onto a Nintendo DSi and DSi XL. The Nintendo 3DS works with game cartridges in the Nintendo DS series.

The Nintendo 3DS is 134mm by 74mm. It is 21mm thick and weighs 230 grams.

The top screen is 3.53 inches and with an liquid crystal display of 800 x 240 pixels. The button screen is 3.02 inches with a liquid crystal display of 320 x 240 pixels.

It has two outer 0.3 megapixel cameras and one inside the portable's clamshell.

This definitely NOT a 3D game.
That is a DSi camera function game. Normal Dsi(Not 3DS) can play it.
You can't see the 3D effect through camera/video.You must test it yourself like you watch Avatar 3D in cinema with 3D glasses.(3DS do not need 3d glasses)

And also, 3DS have backward compatibility.Means you can play non-3D game on it too.
3DS have a DS slide at the top right corner. You can maximize the 3D-ness of the game or even turn off the 3D effect.
It allows gamers who tired but wish to continue the game without 3D effect.

there's nothing much to say about 3ds coz its not out yet. but i am excited about it. but puppy love is not enough to make me buy something. need to try it first. so for now there isn't much of a choice right?

Okay, new question. Should i upgrade from DSL to DSi ??? Apart from the camera which does not interest me and the screen being bigger, should I go for the upgrade ?? I only use my NDSL for Pokemon and Mario games, that's the main reason i bought it. So if the DSi and DSL hasn't got no difference between them when it comes to playing games on the console, should I wait for 3DS and stick to my DSL for now ?

I'm with the 3DS. But I wouldn't buy it on first day.
