The design reminds me of the old phat DS, and I don't like the colour choices they have right now. The graphic looks awfully similar to PSP to be honest.

But the games...... thumbup.gif

... and I want it in pink as well. tongue.gif

3DS will be using DMP's PICA200 GPU, no words on what kind of CPU it'll be paired with.

I'm guessing the price would be between 179 - 199 USD at launch... Though it will NEVER go beyond 199.
Seeing how the DS launched at 149 USD and DSi at 169 USD with all the added techs and stuff to the 3DS, it'll most likely be 199 (623.70MYR).

So in our currency it will be approximately 561.33 - 623.70

Quite cheap if  you ask me... But since we don't have official releases in our country and have to pay shippings and rates.. well... 800MYR for a new unit?

Just speculations, still 2 weeks from 29th and I can't stop shaking my knee right now... >.>

Anyway, gotta save up now. Better to ask someone you know over at the states and ask them to buy. Could save a little.

There's no chance in hell that the 3DS will officially launch in Bolehland at less than RM999, given how Maxsuck priced their official Wii. :/

Really?...nice going Bolehland >.>
I gotta save more NAO!!!

But yeah... 800 might be too low
Heck I bought my 1st gen DS for 999 >.> (rip off shop)

But Wii launch price is 250$... 50$ more that the expected price of 3DS. So I doubt it will go over 999.
*
Wii Malaysian launch price = RM1799 (and it's a year after US launch)

/thread

The only way to get it cheaper (and faster) is importing them overseas.

It looks like it'll be a big power sucker with this kind of specs (compared to a "system on a chip" configuration). Hopefully it's not the case.

guys...dont get 3DS just yet...
got texas instruments OMAP4 phones coming out next year...just google and youtube for it.

it can do all the 3DS can do better, and its a phone
stereoscopic 3D?
dual screen interface?
all same features.

20mp camera, 1ghz processor, full hd, multi OS compatible, among others

if 3DS is analogized by the console counter part, its a Wii
and the OMAP4 phone is PS3/360

OMAP4 is mobile phone and handheld gaming on one device.
only advantage of 3DS over OMAP4 is nintendo exclusive titles, and OMAP4 maybe available only q3-q4 2011.
currently NOKIA and LG got their hands on the chip...other company sure will follow suit later.
*
Yawn... here we go again.

So for the phone? Will all of them have:

- Joystick (or even a simple d-pad?)
- 3D camera
- online multiplayer

And since it's just a chipset for phones there'll be different configurations for each model, each of them will use different OS enviroments. So how to develop games for it?

The answer is.

The simplest, most non-graphical demanding, and cheapest games you can develop in a couple of weeks. So the game will be compatible across all these different models. tongue.gif

There are already 2 screen phones with much higher specs than the DS. And yet people still buy DSes by the hundred thousands every week in Japan

on other note...can harmful programs also auto install into our 3DS? u know, steal personal info, cc details etc...since update can go into auto mode...can false update also do that?
*
First of all you'll need lots of time and effort to reverse engineer the custom OS in the 3DS so you can make a rouge program for it, and then you have to find a way to deliver the payload. I'm sure Nintendo will use a secure connection for all the updates, you don't see people hacking the Wii through updates do you?

Or in other words, a virus. As far we can remember, there were modifications to consoles, but never a real virus to the OS of the consoles.

Viruses have hit PCs, phones. But I can't say for sure a virus would be created for such a console. But it would be true that only through a secure channel (or actually, through SD cards also) that it is possible for the bypass of the security.

Well, flashed SD cards anyone? tongue.gif
*
There's a big difference between modding your console (giving permissions to alter the system), and unintentionally infect the OS with rogue programs (entering system without user intervention.

And who would want to put viruses in their own console with SD cards?

QUOTE(PhoenixByte @ Oct 6 2010, 11:34 AM)
I didn't mean the update mechanism on this one (n not for updating purpose only)...from the 3DS ad we can see other users can 'interact' with us just by passing by or sit close enough to us to share game stats. initiate a passive gaming session n so on. What if someone develop these passive apps (via homebrew etc) to steal our personal information too?

Just by passing by us, they can read or extract our information.
*
Don't forget that wireless communications between DSes are encrypted. And even before any critical informations are exchanged there'll be some sort of "handshake" between the the DSes to determine the identity of the device as well as the software.

The reason piracy for DS exist because they found a way to completely bypass security check, however the security itself remains intact (not cracked). There's no easy way to do the same thing for wireless communications.

As for your personal infomation, it's Nintendo you're talking about. Of course that will be privacy measures, I just hope that it's not as troublesome as the FC system. :/

by the way,news.

That's actually pretty cool! I hope those sort of features trickle into other 3DS games - ones where I wouldn't be too embarrassed to play. I mean being 30-year-old pokemon player on a crowded komuter train is pretty embarrassing already, but this... too much.

I interpret that sentence as asking are you Japanese or not (or will you have a Japanese 3DS or not), cos it is highly likely the 3DS will have region locking.

If you really want to play LovePlus so much, consider getting a Japanese 3DS... or wait until someone hacks a region unlocking solution tongue.gif

I'm getting the imminent 3DS L+ LE bundle anyway. So it doesn't really matter. tongue.gif

Dude. It's pretty obvious you have neither. And I say that with no insult or negativity intended.

lol, I'm just joking. No offense taken really. biggrin.gif

I wish I don't have to face the prospect of buying 2 3DSes if they implement region lock on it. I'm sure they will do it on downloadable contents but I hope it's not the same case with normal games. moneyflies.gif

Pokemon Black/ White works on any DS regardless of its region, but some features (like video chat if I remembered correctly) are restricted to Japanese DSi (or DSi LL).

As for Love Plus +, there's no DSi specific features whatsoever like a normal DS game. And the game is 100% region free.

Well I saw a few people who imported the game and play it without problems on their DSes. But then again they're not using it on a DSi.
