does it means Samsung plasma doesn't last longer than Panny's plasma?

There is no proof of that, both are rated to last the same amount of hours. However, u need to ask urself which u trust the reliability of a Japanese company or a Korean company...

Samsung and LG, I know, based on aircons and washing machine, they don't last long at all. Always rosak.

Hard to say, nowadays, it all depends on luck. Panasonic also kongs nowadays faster than it did 10 years ago but generally last longer than Korean brands. That applies to cars as well.

Choosing the lesser of two evils, I'd go for the Panasonic.

Finally I have set up my P42V20, now the torture of waiting.. waiting to pass 100hrs began... watching everything in low setting doesn't do justice for this plasma ...

first impression :

*even at this low setting, the black level is really impressive.
*been on since 8.30pm and now 3.30am, almost 7hrs hour, yet very quiet unlike our old plasma which start making noise when fan kick in. or maybe this plasma do not have fan..
*nice GUI for Viera Cast, and Youtube streamed nicely..
*my eyes need to get used to 24p video

Based on some initial data, there is suggestion that there are some differences between the V and the VT20. However, the black levels look close or identical. That would mean that it is essentially as good as a 8G Kuro. The other aspects are not clear yet, on colour reproduction, banding and others. Also it would be brighter than the 8G meaning higher contrast ratios. Floating blacks are not confirmed yet.

Let's wait for the official review to confirm.

BTW : What were the prices given for the 50V20 to u guys. From what I heard it shd be closer to RM7K+ instead of teh quoted RM6K+.

I believe WiFi require a separate dongle.. currently i'm using direct rj45/Ethernet from my router to the plasma.

looks like the general consensus is if its for Astro, the plasma is the best and Panny's the best bang for the buck...

2 novice questions

-even if its for Astro HD viewing, plasma still better buy?

-what if i plan to watch loads of mkv files? still plasma?

The wifi doogle is very expensive, selling for around US100 or UK100 (DY-WL10) - checked at amazon

The best option to go wireless is with a new product by dlink model DAP-1350. It allows an ethernet port to be used as a wifi

Price and availability in malaysia not comfirm yet. Can be seen in their website.

If only for Viera cast, WIFI should be enough. However, if planning to stream content from NAS, suggest to put it on wired LAN. Ethernet port on V20 is 100Mbps.

BTW, the V20 is DLNA ready and your content server must be DLNA certified.

The uPNP server in DLINK NAS DNS-323 doesn't seem to work out of the box with the V20.

Yeah DLNA worked well with my WD NAS.. then again the file format might be an issue, so far i've managed to play H264 and DivX only. I've compared playing the same files using PS3 and V20 media player and the PQ of the media player also not as good as PS3.

There is one S-Video input in Pana plasma X20, U20 and V20. If not mistaken, AV3.

the panny 50'' v20 is having a promo right now at TBM @ RM 6,799 + bd45 + 5 years warranty

seems the print on the brochure says it has " infinite black " and confirmed by the salesman. the contrast and colors looks impressive . the reflection are much less compare to the new X and U series. the bezel looks really nice and classy just like last year Z series and black level are always impressive for panny plasma.

but when i touch the panel , it is hotter than the hdready x series. the 24p features are missing though after checking through the remote but it has a game mode

but one thing is for sure , this panny new model color reproduction and contrast is really good . 5,000,000 to 1 . contrast even better than last year top of the line Z series

I don't think that features on the remote, but it definitely there once you feed it with actual 1080p/24p source, tried it on my P42V20. It also state here :
V-Series - Plasma TV
