Actually, to tell u the truth, it is easier for me to comment on all types and brands of displays becoz I am not associated to any brand or display type. So there is no bias, if I were to actually sell them or be associated with them, then the judgement would be biased I think.

If this were my day job, then it would be difficult to knock down displays, and I doubt any retailer would want me to say bad things about the stuff they sell.. smile.gif

I have always appreicated Anfieldude's opinions and comments. They are definitely objective and unbiased.

Wanted to get the Pana plasma G10 earlier but they don't make 50". Now eyeing the V20 series. Learnt a lot from this thread.

On bluray player, is BD60 a good player ? Multi region ?

What about Dune Prime instead of BD60 ? Pros and cons ?

Many thanks.

The BD60 is essentially a no nonsense BD player. No region free for BDs (Unless u want to mod it)

The Dune is a jack of all trades. It doubles up as a BD player and a NMT/Media Player. And it can be made region free with a hack.

Couldn't wait for the renovation to be completed. Call them and they had delivered it to just now. My wife will be so angry when she wake up tomorrow if she notice this in the hall. What I'll do tonight is hide it in the store room, read the manual and stare at the box.

Maybe u can confirm if the THX mode and the pro mode is available in our local Panny's.

QUOTE(PoorMan @ May 4 2010, 10:36 PM)
I think there's no THX or even the ISFccc calibration tool for the Asian V20. A pity. Not sure why they don't put the features here. Perhaps Asian folks here are not "sophisticated" enough? Or perhaps it's the stripped down version to position the price?
*
Went through the manual for THP42V20K, and looking at the Advanced (isfccc) Picture Setting.. i think i can 50% confirm that there is Advance(isfccc) mode. Need to turn on then it will display another set of advance menu with the following setting..

-White Balance
----R-Gain
----G-Gain
----B-Gain
----R-Cutoff
----G-Cutoff
----B-Cutoff
----Gamma
----Reset to Defaults
-Color Management
----R-Hue
----G-Hue
----B-Hue
----R-Saturation
----G-Saturation
----B-Saturation
----Reset to Defaults
-Gamma
----Switch the gamma Curve / 1.8 / 2.0 / 2.2 / 2.4 / 2.6
----Reset to Defaults

Well, i figure this would be the territory of anfieldude to explain what does it do and what setting to use. Until somebody publish their setting, i'll leave this as default.

Hahaha ... at least you got chance to stare at the box ... I also now itchy to get one after seeing it in action.

anfieldude, no one in Penang has got one yet for you to review meh? Although I can access one here in KL but I haven't seen enough panels to come up with an objective assessment.

Great news that the Pro mode is in the Asian sets. I would not advise to copy anyone's settings. Select Cinema mode and adjust the brightness, contrast as I explained in my calibration thread. Without the propoer tools, I would not advise setting this as it could make the PQ worse.

anfieldude,

Thanks for your feedback.

Can I then conclude that Dune has more to gain than BD60 ? Picture quality, functions etc ?

Thanks.

hi all,
looking for a 50incher Plasma, narrow down either the Samsung C6500 or the Pana U20, I knew the Samsung can be had for around 5k and some says a tad lower than 5k is possible.

What about Pana U20? Today I just went to Harvey and it is selling @ RM5499, what's the price we can get out there?

Appreciate if you guys can shed some lights, its easier to bargain when you're aware of the pricing :-)

Per Star paper today, there will be a Pana 3D TV roadshow at the Curve. If the U20 package (with free BD45 Blueray Player + HDMI cable) is available, chances that you could get 2-300 reduction is possible depending on payment mode ie. Cash / Credit Card (1 off payment) / Credit Card (Easy Payment). Ensure that you extend your warranty to 5 years if price is right e.g ~RM400.

Initially I was worried that this basic BD45 Blueray player will not play BD from China; however, after getting few for testing, both local + China BD are playable.
Also, DVD D9 played on this player produced excellent picture and I was wandering whether it is necessary to spent further to convert my DVD9 collection to BD???

Cons: Basic and not impressive box design, U20 is a bit reflective (must control room lighting), no USB on U20 and BD45 (i.e. HDD / Thumbdrive connectivity).

Samsung is also a good Plasma and provide good HDD / thumb connectivity but Panasonic is very durable and has good after sales service.

Unless you have the luxury to compare two 50" TVs side by side at home, you will end up loving the one and only that you watch everyday; just like woman.

does it means Samsung plasma doesn't last longer than Panny's plasma?
