mkv with lossless needs to be played media player classic or windows media player or anything else that supports ffdshow codec.
bluray with lossless can be played with totalmedia theater 3 that supports full menu and bitstream.

Added on March 18, 2011, 9:33 pmand not to forget you could configure xbmc to run with the internal dsplayer that supports ffdshow thus allowing hd audio bitstream.

Hi guys, got unused GeForce 7950GT vs ATI4870 sitting in the box. Got a pc assembled in the living room for HD/BRrip movies session. My current PSU is AcBel E2 510W, giving me inconsistent performance (sometime can on pc sometime cannot with 7950GT plugged in)..

So I know I need to get a new PSU. Problem is I'm not sure which graphic card to use. Will it differs if I used GPU utilizing players like SplashPRO ?

So to be short...

7950GT or ATI 4870 ?

or

there's no difference at all ? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Guys,

Need some pointers please, if you don't mind helping.

Planning to knock up a quick HTPC from my current old desktop. It has an old Gigabyte G31M-ES2L mobo running on E5500 with 2GB of RAM. My aim is to have a small footprint, low power consuming box which for downloading (got Unifi at home) and some light-weight gaming, connecting to my 50" plasma. Please advise on what to get (best bang-for-the-buck for a budget of around RM500):
- casing (with PSU)
- GC
- 2TB drive

Thank you.

A 2TB drive will cost you around RM280. With that purchased, you left RM220 for a GC, PSU and casing. With that budget you can get a low end casing with a questionable PSU @ around RM80 at lowyat plaza and a Gigabyte 5450 GC @ around RM140.

guys, I'm suddenly facing a problem with my PC connected to my Samsung LCD LA40C530.

Previously I just plug in and it just work. Can see boot up right away.

But now, after change HDMI cable, it cannot work eventhough I change back to the old cable.

Some hints:
a) before this happen, my PC connect to a same place as a fan which the plug caught fire. I scared the current flow through and burn the HDMI post but I seriously doubt it because my PC is not turned on during that time but the HDMI post connected to my LCD. If my LCD HDMI port still working, why my PC port died?

b) software problem. But I doubt it because it supposed to see the boot up screen right?

So I need anyone help whether my HDMI port died or not. By the way, DVI works. Sending to warranty maybe can but my warranty card Sapphire 5850 maybe missing. LOL

Thanks for your input, kianwee.

I suppose the 2TB hdd is asking too much, for my measly budget of rm500. I should realistically look at a 1TB instead, costing around rm170, leaving rm330 for a GC and casing-psu - what can i get for that kind of money (ie rm330)?

If I am interested in getting a HTPC but not in hurry, worth the wait for AMD Fusion? Their conference is in June, so when will they release teh product into the market? A few months? A year? or just go with the Dell Zino and that's it. I'm new to HTPC. Thank you..

too bad...dell MY isn't doing much promotion on this Dell Zino...hardly find them giving away good deal on Zino..otherwise, not a bad idea. The only downside i understand from reading various posts abt it is the poor heat dissipation...

hi, wan ask is this worth the pre-order? http://shop.xtreamer.net/categories/Xtreamer-Ultra/

Total include shipping is RM 1212.. Shouldn't have any problems with Kastam right since it's a pc. Looking for a media center pc for my new house.. Doubt i can assemble something like that within the budget since i don't have old parts lying around.

I think with that price here you can get better hardware performance.
