Y dun u consider for C:
AMD Athlon x3 440 + ASUS M4A78LT-M LE + Sapphire HD 5570 1GB D3 128Bit ?

Almost the same price with i3+ p7H55 but u get alots better performance in BD 1080p movies + 720p games, or may b can unlock to become quad core cpu smile.gif

If you don't use it for games, the E35m1 fusion fanless design and lower power output with more than enough graphic processing power for HD should be a better option.

Less fan, lesser electrical interference for audio, should you opt to use the onboard digital audio output, or adding audiophile soundcard in future.

Lower power consumption means u can leave the unit on all the time with minimal $ energy spent.

And... lower power consumption means less heat, and able to use a low power output PSU. A good quality PSU such as Be Quiet brand 450W output is more than enough for your HTPC. Less heat generated meaning less fan noisy HTPC.

So overall using the E35m1 enable you to have a quieter HTPC, with less electrical interference and cheaper long term power usage.

Unless you want to play games of course.

read it somewhere about amd fusion, when it play on 1080p movie and u fastforward it will cause it to hang for seconds before it resume. So i guess that fusion wont be my choice. And yeap this htpc will only be use for playing movie not for gaming smile.gif

You can't find any free player to play commercial BD as yet.

You will also need software to decode security code before being played with the Power DVD. Example of such software is AnyDVD HD. You will need to purchase it.

that what i thought

thx for info bro

to play that particular movie, i have to gp into the folders and play the movie file .mt2s or smthing with my vlc...lucky it worked... other movies i could just go through the proper menu. But at least there's a work around it ... better than the disc not playable at all.

hope the vlc guys will come out with smthing for bluray drive playback soon smile.gif

I don't think the hardware is the root cause of your problem.
even nowadays Intel HD graphics can handled mkv with hd bitstream.

QUOTE(paskal @ Apr 3 2011, 11:54 PM)
i'm running the lowest ati 5450 with 256mb of ram and never had any problem with mkv with dts-hd. heck i even ran bdmv/bd.iso/bd disc with dts-hdma and never had any problem. even with high bitrate 24/192.

and all my movies are currently being ran with ati edge enhancement and denoise together with audio decoding to lpcm then upconvert to 24/96 before being feeded to the avr. yes, all 6 channels decoded to lpcm, then all 6 channels are upsampled to 24/96.
never had any lagging. but i did configured the system to ran hardware acceleration correctly. maybe you should do the same

hi 2 sifu, how to check whether it using gc hardware acceleration to depress? When i switch my gc into ATI5750, then it woulnd't lag.

i'm not a sifu.
but the rule is, if hardware acceleration is working correctly, your cpu usage while playing a movie should hover around 10-15%. most of the time, less. that is if you don't have any unnecessary items running in the background.

i think only starting with 4 series have hardware acceleration. and in my experience the older series tho have hardware acceleration are kindda temperamental. series 5 should work right out of the box with the latest catalyst drivers installed.

hardware acceleration settings are different from program to program. totalmedia theater have a tickbox inside the settings page. mpc-hc have to be turned on manually somewhere buried in the configuration page. if installed by a codec pack like klite then it's presented during the installation pages.

ffdshow have a variant of it but needs to be selected by a codec tweaker, it's not the default. the newer xbmc have it inside the settings page. mediabrowser/media center in default uses microsoft codec which doesn't support hardware acceleration, needs to be disabled and changed to something like ffdshow. coreavc codec have it inside the configuration page.

my card is kinda old ati radeon x1950 pro agp. i cant find anywhere inside the catalyst control panel for hardware acceleration.

when i play 720p mkv with vlc player i saw that my cpu utilization around 50% so i guess it's using cpu power instead of gpu. it's running smooth though. 1080p is out of question can play but very jerky rolleyes.gif

How about change your player instead of vlc ? I think that will have much better in cpu usage and the smoothness too. Any recommend player here ? hmm.gif

I find SPlayer not bad. I was using CCCP with MPC before this.
