Hey peeps,

Did some basic reading on HTPC. I'll keep it short.

Say, if I have a :-

- PC
- 5.1 sound system
- LCD

I have quite a collection of HD/BRrips/.MKV movies. So can I hook them up like below ?

speakers <> PC <> TV

Will I have a decent/good 5.1 surround sound experience?

5.1, lets say ... HT-SF470 Sony.

PC has DVi. But I can get a HDmi converter.

Do I need extra device? Can I not hook all speakers to PC's back panel IO ports?

HT-SF470 have HDMI in, good enough.
not all DVI have audio out enabled, please check your video card spec.
if ur video card have hdmi out, such as 5 series ATi will be the best. can transmit HD Audio Bitstream to home theater system.
why you need to hook all Sony HT-SF470 speaker to PC back panel?  doh.gif

Ok ill check graphic card spec. If audio transmit is supported then all I need is to hook up hdmi to tv and all audio speaker cables to the back of the tv right ?

Please excuse my lack of knowledge in this matter laugh.gif laugh.gif

nope. the best idea in this way:

pc hdmi out --- HT-SF470 --- TV

from pc can connect any of HT-SF470 3 HDMI-in and 1 HDMI-out to connect to LCD TV.

Ok I think I got the picture now. Thanks sifu ! thumbup.gif

Hi guys, got unused GeForce 7950GT vs ATI4870 sitting in the box. Got a pc assembled in the living room for HD/BRrip movies session. My current PSU is AcBel E2 510W, giving me inconsistent performance (sometime can on pc sometime cannot with 7950GT plugged in)..

So I know I need to get a new PSU. Problem is I'm not sure which graphic card to use. Will it differs if I used GPU utilizing players like SplashPRO ?

So to be short...

7950GT or ATI 4870 ?

or

there's no difference at all ? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

yep.... it works over optical....

So you have all your speaker's optical connected straight to the back panel of your HTPC without passing through any receiver right..
