QUOTE i've pretty much decided on the budget Dell Zino HD (not ideal wish list) with
AMD Athlon II P340 & ATI Radeon HD 4250
i just need someone to help me confirm if this Net top/HTPC can in fact bitstream HD Audio (DTS-MA & Dolby THD) to my AVR. on dell's website, it says "Integrated 2.1 Hi-def analog audio and options up to THX 7.1 digital audio" i hv no idea what this means, especially 'options' .................................... Hi, What about ASrock mini pc? http://www.asrock.com/nettop/overview.asp?Model=ION%20330HTthe 330HT is quoted at RM1099 from a local reseller... Between the lowest spec of Zino which runs on AMD Athlon™ II P340 Dual-Core Processor, this 330HT runs on Dual Core Atom, which one is more a value buy?

QUOTE(daryl.k @ Jan 13 2011, 12:40 PM) my main priority is to buy a new PC...plus the rtd 1055 can't do BD-menu (i think) its a real value for money player but.... thanks for advise...i did consider asrock, and although the quoted price was lower (330HT at RM870) it is a bare bone unit, meaning without HDD, RAM & OS. add those in, its become more expensive than Zino.. [ADDED] btw, i check cpu benchmark for both Atom 330 2 Core & Athlon II P340 and it seem the AMD wins over Atom in terms of CPU Passmark (not that i know what that means really) so is the AMD better than Atom?? if i have a wee bit more budget, i wanna get the asrock core 100...solve all problem. will go back to the budget book see if i can stretch it little bit more... ya...A.Core HT100 using i3 looks good.. have you got any quote before for the i3 based asrock together with RAM, HDD, etc.?

indeed, if a dedicated graphic card exists you don't need a super power CPU.. look at my tiny Intel SU9400 plays a 1080 movie with little impact on the CPU utilization (see the bottom righthand corner CPU U% icon).. And mind you there are other background program running at the same time (ie. uTorrent, share trading platform, etc.) This post has been edited by numbertwo: Jan 18 2011, 02:48 PM

QUOTE(jagung @ Jan 26 2011, 04:27 PM) Hi guys.. need your viewpoint on this... I've been itching to get the 1) Acer revo 3700 which is the DC Atom ION 2 based PC.. After googling around found out that there are alternatives for better and cheaper HTPC setup. 2) Asrock Vision 3D or HT100 PC.. running on i3 (barebone costs RM1400 and above ) 3) Custom build mini itx, gigabyte motherboard (GA-E350N-USB3) that supports AMD fusion which is an APU.. not available in the market yet.. What this 3 have in common is the form factor .. its small and suitable for my living room... lower power consumption and noise level is also one of the reasons Of the 3, I'm leaning towards the 3rd option which is the AMD fusion which performs much better than the ion2 but not more than the i3.. the price malaysia is not out yet and i'm guessing the cost to build should be similar to acer's 3700 or atom ion based motherboards. http://semiaccurate.com/2011/01/03/gigabyt...mini-itx-board/Appreciate any suggestions and opinions on this .. hi.. what abt the Dell Zino mini's? The one that has ATI HD5450 / AMD Phenom™ II X3 P840 Triple-Core Processor / 1TB Sata / 4GB (1X4GB) DDR3 demand ~$2000 . What would be the price if you were to build this spec on your own?

cool Jagung!
future expansion is critical..
If the Mini itx case can be as 'tiny' as Zino, perhaps your choice would be the ideal one1

QUOTE(Johnnycartoon @ Feb 22 2011, 10:49 PM) denhock is selling those opened box qnap nas for quite cheap, under Rm400 can get the nas itself but the hdd u have to find urself http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=959863&hl=RM199 for QNAP TS-109 NAS RM299 for QNAP TS-109 PRO then add 3.5" Western Digital 1TB SATA2 Green Caviar 64MB = RM175 Rm384/Rm484 Anyways, i m still deciding on getting a htpc or a media player with attached storage (eg. ac ryan playon!hd) Still dunnoe which to choose... tks for the heads up. will chck out this QNAP but at least with 2 bays..1 Bay NAS isn't really a NAS without capability of storage expansion? I saw new TV lineup for 2011, some claims to have web browser built into the TV set itself..(ie. LG) , so perhaps we just need a media streamer/player by then...

QUOTE(n8210 @ Mar 30 2011, 10:14 AM) If I am interested in getting a HTPC but not in hurry, worth the wait for AMD Fusion? Their conference is in June, so when will they release teh product into the market? A few months? A year? or just go with the Dell Zino and that's it. I'm new to HTPC. Thank you.. too bad...dell MY isn't doing much promotion on this Dell Zino...hardly find them giving away good deal on Zino..otherwise, not a bad idea. The only downside i understand from reading various posts abt it is the poor heat dissipation...

QUOTE(kianwee @ Apr 1 2011, 03:29 PM) A decent one without breaking the bank would be Silverstone LC17. Should be around RM380 http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/p_c...?pno=lc17&area=I think there's a few here using this model. hi, will the config that you suggested fits into micro or mini-ATX casing?

QUOTE(TongCN @ Apr 25 2011, 03:43 PM) Hmm ... planning to get a HTPC cause own desktop kinda like half dead. Kept hanging at random point even bios. Saw Dell Inspiron Zino HD and quite interested on it. But with that price, i think self assemble is more better, am I right? Just checked and Asus E35M1-M PRO motherboard is in my mind now. However I have no idea which casing is suitable for it >.< Does PSU include with the casing or separate get? RAM: 2GB DDR3 DVD-ROM: Depends cause already own external HDD: 500GB enough - using 2.5" ? Anything else recommend? Thanks. P.S. Can I use the casing from here and which better? : http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1032806&hl=a dear forummer has once recommended this setup , may well serve as a reference : QUOTE HTPC Config: 1. Asus E35M1-M PRO - RM480
2. 2GB DDR3 RAM - RM65
3. 1TB Hard disk - RM160
4. Casing - RM100 = Silverstone ML-03 HTPC Casing, around Rm280 without PSU 5. Coolermaster 400w PSU - RM100
6. BD-ROM from forumer - RM220 Total damage = RM1125 Not only can play MKV, can also bistream BD.iso and play actual blu-ray. :
