Phone reception on the HTC Legend is not good. Also HTC Legend runs Android 2.1 but does not support Live Wallpaper like HTC Desire or Google Nexus One. For those who wish to upgrade their OS in time to come to support new features in Android 2.2 (Froyo), then forget about HTC Legend. Its not worth buying in my opinion.
You sir is wrong. HTC have dropped hints and work in progress of Legend to get Froyo 2.2 update. Desire, Evo 4G..etc will be shipping with 2.2 while the rest of current models will receive 2.2 Update when HTC get to compile a much compatible Sense UI for Froyo.

i've upgraded the system software and don't see any improvement or degradation. So, I suppose it's probably minor bug fixes to the system software.
This upgrade is just a minor update and not Android 2.2 Froyo.

When Android 2.2 Froyo comes out, I will definitely upgrade my HTC Legend to Froyo.

When HTC release official 2.2 for Legend, you should upgrade to it.
If you can't wait, you can root your Legend.

Oh ya...a few more things wrong with this phone.
THe Aluminium body is prone to scratches and getting chipped off if you put them together with your keys, instance. Without a protective casing, this phone will be full of scratches if one is not careful. Also the phone slips off your hands very easily due to the casing. Aside from not having Live Wallpaper ( you will notice you cannot install them into your phone),  WIFI is weak...possibly also due to the Aluminium casing I believe. Plus, HTC Sync for the HTC Legend is also flaky. Not sure why, But this could be a problem with the HTC sync software running on the PC, most likely.
Also no video call camera and battery only lasts 1 day of usage. And I heard that HTC Legend will most likely have to wait a long time before it gets the Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade which is full of goodies and performance improvements.

wow its hard to seriously take a guy who quotes his own post 40 minutes after he posted it

but I respect you for telling what is unsatisfactory for you about this phone, but stop telling your opinion like a goddamn fact dammit
particularly on that Froyo thing, it may or may not be true but what I know is the truth is that there is no way you can know what happens in the future anyway particularly when the only HTC official statement states that all their phones release in 2010 will get the update..
I cant take seriously your other claims after that statement
who gives a f* about the live wallpaper, its not something that make or break a smartphone
you'll change it to a static one sooner or later when you realize battery life is more important

seriously though, I dont think it matters coz people looking to buy legend over desire/N1is looking for something else,
you might be right, the price difference arent all that much, maybe around rm200 to 300 or even lower
so why buy legend when you can have desire
coz desire is fugly as hell thats why, seriously it looks like HTC just says "hey lets put in badass processor and slapon a giant screen on top of it" and then they forget to give it to the design team, seriously it looks lifeless to me, even the color is just downright ugly, i never like the look of the nexus one and the desire looks worse..
okay its not that bad, but there is nothing sexy about it, which is why you go and buy a legend
it gives you a decent performance that gets you away from the apple-sheep herd, and doesnt make you look nerdy at the same time

While most of the things you pointed out do make sense because they are indeed the weaker aspects of the Legend to some people (FYI, I can live with those shortcomings), I'm however surprised that you highlighted the bold text though -- no video call camera.

Seriously dude, unless you've done absolutely no research whatsoever before purchasing, you should have known this already. Unlike some of the things that you probably would not know without some hindsights (i.e. not knowing Froyo will be released extemely late to the Legend), things like not having a front camera for video call are stated CLEARLY on the spec sheet.

For a phone as bad as the Legend, I would voluntarily purchase it off you for RM50 to save you from all the agony. Let me know.

u PMS ar? doh.gif why in the world would u come into a legend topic and screw legend lol....
Phone reception is normal la...sometimes i do get full bar and most of the time at least 1 bar depending on the area u are in.
Who the hell says legend is not getting Froyo? Did HTC announce they are not going to release Froyo for legend? They SAID they are going to release Froyo updates for phones released in 2010 later on.

You tell me which new smartphones released nowadays wont get scratched when u put them together with keys/coins? Thats why there are such things in the world called casing and invisible shield...lol...If u just dun like legend because its aluminium then go buy some other phones lor...in the market got so many other choices...

Wi-Fi is yeah a bit weak but its usable. HTC sync is not because of legend its because of HTC Sync software...other phones like desire always have such common problems..Yeah android just recently released video call camera for their phone lineups, u dun see them on previous phones before legend also, ie. Nexus One and etc...

Regards to battery, which smartphones can last more than 1 day with full usage throughout the day. Even Nexus One, Desire and Iphone also cant lor...But i can tell u if i rarely use my phone i can charge my phone on the third day of usage...

Like what zc_squash said I would voluntarily purchase it off you for even RM100 to save you from all the agony, if u do even own the phone in reality. Let me know. shakehead.gif

I was shocked when I saw that post by HTC Singapore in FB that Android 2.2 not coming to Legend. Not only was it premature but would also deter potential customers.

I've checked the comments on that page and curiously that post has since been removed.

It wouldn't be right for them not to upgrade the Legend to 2.2 IMO. Two phones in the US with similar specs (one of it is even lower) to the Legend are being updated with 2.2.
-MyTouch 3G Slide (higher RAM at 512MB, everything else the same as Legend)
-MyTouch 3G (lower specs overall)
Both phones are manufactured by HTC and customized for T-Mobile. Heck there's even been rumours of HTC Aria getting 2.2 and that thing is IDENTICAL to the Legend in terms of specs.

HTC will be shooting themselves on the foot if Legend doesn't get 2.2 update. I don't expect HTC to update Legend to 2.3 at all (being a HTC customer all these years lowered my expectations) but 2.2 is a must.

I will encourage you guys to email HTC asking about that Singapore HTC FB posting. They will reply your email in one day.

Well, coming from an iPhone user previously I can say that the Legend is pretty much the same in build quality like the first iPhone. Don't get me wrong but I certainly like the unibody construction on Legend than iPhone anytime.

Same thing happens to me when I bought from Maxis, the staff said add another RM100 you can get the Desire for better specs and overall satisfaction but I insist on Legend. I did my research before I purchase so I think the Legend meets my requirement for my own usage.

If you're smart enough, give an excuse to your pants pocket compartment for just your phone. Then you won't get any nasty or unwanted scratches or dent. Overall, I love my Legend and Android does give you better overall experience than iPhone. It's just me though.

HAHA.... wow, I really got a kick out of seeing you guys getting all your panties twisted up in knots becos of my comments on the HTC legend. Luckily, there's such a thing called freedom to express one's own opinion. And thanks so much for expressing each of your very entertaining comments too smile.gif

For the record though -

1) The bold on the "no video call camera" must have been a glitch when I was typing...didnt mean to bold it actually smile.gif I was fully aware of the lack of video call camera when I bought it.

2) Like I said - the reception and wifi signals for me is weaker than other PDA phones I've used - and I read from the net is possibly due to the aluminium casing.

3) And I heard that HTC Legend will most likely have to wait a long time before it gets the Android 2.2 (Froyo) upgrade which is full of goodies and performance improvements....this time I'm deliberately bolding it so that you guys can read clearly that I never said Froyo wasn't coming to Legend...just that it (may) be a long wait before we see it happen.

4) I did mention that HTC Sync problem was probably due to the HTC Sync software running on the PC.

5) And I did mention that a protective casing is needed to prevent scratches.

And for those who offered to buy it for RM50 or 100, thanks but no thanks....I'll live with the agony of using this wonderfully hip looking android phone smile.gif

For those of you who love your Legend....heck, if it satisfies your requirements, then good for you! smile.gif

Lastly, I just want to say - I respect all your opinions, so please respect mine.

If you have things (good or bad) to share about this phone, lets hear them!

so feeling the heat and start backpedalling now, eh?

since you put them into points, let see
1) your own reading/typing mistake
2) have you updated to 1.31.707.3? It's OTA.
3) you heard, okkayy.... Desire is also on Android 2.1. Lets see how long Desire and Legend has to wait for 2.2
4) blame it on HTC software for all HTC model, not Legend specifically.
5) N1 and all phones in this world need protective casing to prevent scratches. your point is?

Can you please raise more relevant issues for Legend? I want my Legend to perform better.
But if this is the only issues you can raise, I felt really dumb for having my time spend this way.

LOL....well, if u felt dumb spending your time this way(and taking the time to respond to each point I made), then why bother in the first place? And for all the time spent responding to my post, you can't even come up with your own opinions about the phone....felt dumb , did you say? tongue.gif

Comon guys, every damn phone out there has their own strength and weaknesses

Indeed legend's signal and wifi signal could be better but I'm happy with the size of the phone, squeezing a desire/n1/iphone with a protective case to a pair of jeans is not something i like to do

Does this phone needs to have broadband package like Iphone and Blackberry?

Can it use like Symbian phone so I don't need to spend extra cost for the data plan (eg bis...)

ah. your reply has been totally towards me. None of it at all focused on the HTC Legend, which was your original point or intent. That's good, it shows we can move forward, instead of backwards, in this thread.

I will pretty much say any smartphone nowdays should go with a broadband/data package. It's like having a sportscar (smartphone) and not straight highway road on (data usage). I'm using my 3gig data allocation to the max actually.
