HTC recently unveiled the HTC Legend Android smartphone alongside the Desire and the HD Mini. What sets this particular handset apart from the rest is its aluminum unibody construction. The phone's body is carved out of a single block of aluminum (ala Macbooks) and its internals are slotted into it. This gives the phone a more solid feel while at the same time, giving it a very refined look.

The Legend is not just appealing on the outside, for it packs some mean muscle under the hood. A 600MHz processor (Qualcomm MSM7227) and the same integrated GPU that powers the Google Nexus One (AMD z430) powers the phone. The phone also has 384MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM. Its screen though (at 3.2"), is smaller compared to the Nexus One and the Legend's older brother, the Desire.

The Legend also sports the latest version of the Android operating system, Android v2.1 (or Eclair) coupled with its very own HTC Sense UI.

The HTC Legend is available for pre-order for those in the UK for GBP 399 and will be available on the 1st of April 2010. Hopefully we don't have to wait too long before it arrives on Malaysian shores (with a reasonable price tag). This is one sexy beast I'd love to own.

My expectation is that this phone will launch here at around RM1999 price range, replacing the Hero for that segment whereas the Hero's price will drop by around 200 bucks.

**I hope I'm right XD

I was initially looking to get the Desire but judging by its launch price in UK, I think it's gonna be around the HD2's current price (almost 3k). No way I can afford to pay that much...

Update: 1st review is up (added in 1st post) but it's a really short one. Not at all informative enough ><

I think we can actually get a Nexus One for around RM2300 from the forumers in Garage Sales.

Yea, the processor is a real downer but then again, not everyone needs a Snapdragon. Hehe.

haha..but most android users are techie background... what do they think...hehe... HTC..think twice on the price..

True. If HTC were to price the Legend really close to the Desire, I think most people will just go straight for the Desire.

Probably around 2.5k ringgit, might as well get nexus one >_>

Don't think it'll be that high. HTC Hero launched here at RM2399. Should be lower than that since the launch price of the Legend is lower than the launch price of the Hero in UK/EU.

I would get a Nexus One too if its warranty was applicable here. Going to SG for a warranty claim is a pain.

it's not a coating. It's MADE of aluminium. A chunk of aluminium with insides carved out to fit the 'guts' of the Legend. Makes it even more awesome huh?

Makes me wonder whether it's recycled aluminium. Then they can market it as a green product. LOL

That might bring the price tag down too. XD

So far reviews have been good. Most giving it 9/10. =)

My only concern is the Wi-Fi reception. One of the reviews (tech radar i think) mentioned that the Wi-Fi reception was weaker on the Legend compared to other phones. None of the other reviews mentioned that though...
Hopefully the problem only affects that particular unit or is a problem that only affects pre-retail units used for testing/reviewing.

EDIT: Engadget has also mentioned the weaker Wi-Fi in their review. sad.gif

Good News, guys!
The Legend (along with the Smart and the HD Mini) will be launched in Malaysia next week. No word on pricing yet though, but do check out HTC Msia's Facebook page for more updates.

I tested it at Digital Mall, PJ too. Pictures don't do it justice. It looks REALLY good when you hold it in your hands. Hardware feels really solid and sturdy. No weird creaking noises like on Nokia phones. Interface was smooth for the most part but Leap was not as smooth as I expected. Screen was fantastic, AMOLED really is a terrific screen.

I didn't really had time to test the software. Can anyone confirm whether Android Market is present by default on SIS Legends?

No offense to anyone, but why's Live Wallpaper so important? It takes up resources and battery life and serves no real function. Most people don't even use it on desktops. I simply don't get the significance of moving wallpapers...

About navigation, try looking for the APK of Sygic for Android.

I just got my Legend a few hours ago. Been playing with it since. Hehe. It's an awesome device.

I tried installing Sygic, but couldn't get it to work. Same goes for NDrive.

Hope Papago for 2.1 is gonna be out soon.

Nope. Does it support 2.1 already? AFAIK, it only supports up to 1.6. That's why some Hero users have not moved onto 2.1 (custom) ROM yet.

No, it won't slow down. The phone will automatically release memory when the need arises.

Yea, Wifi signal strength is weaker than other phones.

Does anyone have problems with the ringtone volume? My phone's ringtone volume goes soft after a few seconds of ringing..

Seems to be a bug cuz it doesnt happen all the time. Happens probably like once every 10-15 calls. I have the 'Quiet ring on pickup' option disabled btw.

Sigh...went to the shop where I bought the phone and tried to show them this problem. The damn problem didn't occur the whole time I was there. As soon as I come home, I give it one try, and it happens again...
