- Senior Member 7,951 posts Joined: Sep 2005	Alright, this is for those who has queries on any laptop cooling related questions. For starters, I'd insist anyone using a notebook/netbook to use a cooler, as most pf them get hot over an extended period of time. But what cooler are you gonna buy? Cheap china tri-fan-blue-LED ones? Or a decent CoolerMaster? Well, like I said, depends on scenario. So, if you're budget is -> RM0-10 Here, you can, DIY your own cooler, or use those Made-In-China ones. My bet goes for the DIY option, as there are many ways you can cool and customize your cooler. Brands from this range is only those China ones. Other than buying cheap coolers, you may want to start from buying a can of compressed air (available at most established computer stores). This is a cheap and effective option. Should you need any help in terms of DIY, here's the place to go. RM10-RM50 From here, you can opt for imitation Cooler Master coolers. Whether they work as well as the real thing, that I cannot guarantee. There are many types of imitations, from the Cooler Master Notepal X1 to the X2. lol. But honestly, to me, I think they're all from the same OEM manufacturer. So it also depends on you. For this range, you can also choose the DIY route, as you have more cash to customize your cooler. For here, you may be able to get a Cooler Master (Second hand, maybe), but mostly would be Evercool etc. RM60-RM100 From this range, you can get yourself a decent Cooler Master cooler. If you're within the distance to Low Yat Plaza, do check out Viewnet, as the Infinite's price is currently at RM89. RM110-RM300 This is where the fun begins. You can get those Zalman coolers from this range. The idea is, the more you pay, the better the cooler? Well, I still need some user feedbacks regarding this issue. You may also find Logitech and Belkin coolers in this price range. Inadequate cooling can cause excess heat which forces the fan to run constantly, can damage components, and limit the speed of the CPU. All of these problems with high power and high heat will cause applications to work slower than normal. The sound of the fan running all the time may the first clue that your PC is not running as efficiently as possible and that you may have a problem with accumulated dust clogging air vents. Dust and lint on heat generating components and fans Notebook PCs have vents in the bottom and sides to allow air to flow through the case. If these vents become clogged or heat generating parts become covered with dust, the fan cannot cool the components properly. Lint and dust accumulation prevents air from flowing around the cooling fins and causes the fan to work harder. If there is dust in the vents, you should clean the computer by blowing out the dust from around the fan and heat shield. This will prevent dust from accumulating as shown below. Removing dust and lint by cleaning vents CAUTION: Ensure that the computer is turned off and the AC adapter is disconnected before spraying with compressed air to prevent damage to the notebook PC. The accumulation of dust can often be observed on the vents in the computer's case. You can use a can of compressed air as shown below to help remove the dust and prevent overheating. Removing the dust increases the air flow to improve cooling and allow the fan to run quieter. The cooling vents are located in various places depending on the PC model. You can identify the vents by looking for the copper or black fins inside the vents. You should also blow the compressed air into other openings such as the fan intake vent. This will help keep the air circulating and prevent dust from accumulating on components. By taking this action periodically as a preventive measure, you can greatly reduce the possibility of component damage and prevent the slowdown of the computer's performance. To clean the Cooler Master NotePal Infinite: 1) Carefully peel off those 4 long rubber strips on the metal mesh. 2) You'll find 4 silver color screws on the top left and right corner on the metal mesh; 4 black color screws on the lower left and right corner of the metal mesh. Unscrew all 8 of them using a proper screwdriver. Top right corner on the metal mesh; I unscrew one of them already. Lower left corner on the metal mesh; notice the 2 black screws are still intact. 3) Flip the cooling pad to reveal its black plastic underside, there are 2 prominent black screws at the lower center part of the cooling pad (like you've mentioned earlier); unscrew them as well. Underside of the cooling pad. The 2 black screws you've mentioned. 4) Notice those square rubber pads? Peel all 4 of them off carefully; you'll find 2 silver screws on the upper left and right corner of the bottom base and 2 black screws on the lower left and right corner of the bottom base where the rubber pads once hid them from sight. Unscrew all 4 of them. Note: Alternatively, you can just peel the lower 2 square rubber pads, because the two silver screws on the upper left and right corner of the bottom base doesn't inhibit you from opening the cooling pad. You can leave the silver screws (and the rubber pads on the upper left and right corner) alone if you so wish. Upper right corner of the bottom base. You can choose not to unscrew this screw and the other one on the left, it doesn't inhibit you from opening the Cooler Master Infinite. Lower left corner of the bottom base. 5) Once you've done that, you should be able to lift the metal mesh along with a butt shape black color plastic off the black plastic bottom base, refer to the picture below. But don't yank the metal mesh part just yet, there's a wire attached from the fan to the power supply unit/chip, disconnect the wire carefully. Notice there's a wire running along from the fan to the power supply/controller/chip. Once the wire is disconnected, you should be able to separate the metal mesh and butt shape plastic combo from the bottom base. Wire disconnected. The fan attached to the metal mesh. Unscrew all 3 silver screws to free the fan. 9) Slide the wire out of the latch to free the fan; now the fan is all yours for the cleaning. For example 15" is supported on NC1000 however you are better off with the NC2000 as the NC1000 'true wind-flow area' will not be able to cover the whole body of the laptop. If you checked, for most coolers the mesh is about 1-2cm from the edge of the cooler and that means only the inner part is covered. It is okay if the laptop is smaller than the cooler itself however in the case of 15" on NC1000, it either will fit just right or go off the edge making less area covered by the wind-flow, which in return, less cooling efficiency. On the NC2000 however, it fits nicely in mesh area.

I have seen before my friend's compaq laptop also have the same "dusty" speakers problem and can't get it out anymore even he used the "gel" cleaner (green colour one) ... Thus, this notebook cooler suites Alienware M17x the most. As for Zalman NC2000, the efficiency may not as good as NZXT Cryo LX as its cooling fan is located at the front of the notebook cooler. The only draw back is lacking of mobility. Other than that, I can't see any major difference between these two types of notebook cooler. When i wan to test it, do i need to close all the program? Need how long to test the temperature? From wat i hv observed, the different of the temperature and before is not much different. May be 5-10 Celcius only. But when i touch the laptop part that normally will be quite hot when i not using cooling pad there and it is a lot different compare between using and without using cooling pad. is it show the cooling pad perform well?? sry that my english is a bit poor. hope that u guys understand my english.

Notepal 1 also hv the higher fan speed which is better. notepal 1 also hv higher fan airflow ( i not sure is better or not, someone pls let us know). the notepal W1 is suitable for 15' and 17' while the notepal 1 is suitable for 15' and below. depend on ur notebook inch. hope can help, and correct me if im wrong.

The partially vent in ZM NC2000 is a problem which Zalman has to improve and they have done it at this new series of notebook coolers. Great job by them! Besides that, I'm kinda like the elevated angle of the NC3000 which I think is a plus for viewing angle and cooling purpose. Oh yea, did you noticed that the NC3000 is bigger in length compared to NC2000.

Yeap, the temperature is on the high side. My previous T9400 had 50-60c of temperature. You many need to clean the heatsink & fan.

How was Notepal Infinite(4Hub)? is it better if got more usb port?? hmm.. i am not sure.. mine infinite didn't show any significant cooling effect well except that when on big load, it prevent the bottom from heating up and provide good air to it. the nice thing about infinite is that it has nice design and also big. very convenient for you to surf on bed without need to worry that your laptop gonna cook your bed hmm.. i also want to know if anyone here experience good cooling effect from infinite, please do share ya. imo, the classic cooling pad is better after all (with no whatever air flow design, only straight forward air flow) correct me if I'm wrong.

They making a review about each cooler very well. After i check out the site i bought the evercool hawk 1 notebook cooler. Not yet test it since my lappy not yet arrive. I bought the cooler master U2 last nite.. very quiet. So far nothing i have to complain. It does the cooling duty. But i can still feel the heat when i rest my hand at the wrist area. But when i buy last nite. I also saw they have those plug in fan.. it goes to the side of your lappie, and suck out the hot air. Is that better than a cooling pad ka? I was thinking of CM U2 & Zalman NC2000 (which r recommendable by most) This is wat I thought of: U2 - good for carrying around, easy to clean, adjustable cooling position, within RM100 NC2000 - better cooling(?), harder in cleaning, bag problem(?), around RM200 The idle heat of the cores are around 50C =.=lll eventhough I'm using the cheap Evercool Legend notebook cooler (sucks air from top to side) ACER 5745G's design is made to suck air from beneath and blow from side. Zalman look solid.. u see quality between both of it.. u will understand Zalman is better. actually as long your laptop get less heat.. the lifespan of laptop would be good.. my bro example using problematic compaq v3000.. a lot users complaint it.. but till now my bro still use it.. he bought rm2.3k that time.. he take care it well.. just quite hot on palm there..

Well, I agree there's quite a few of those copy-cat versions of CM cooler pads, but you won't find the same "Cooler Master" words there Anyway there's also copy-cat versions of Zalmans as well Zalman is much more dearer so its by nature that it should be of better quality... right? Yeah, so for those who wants a long-lasting laptop, try getting laptops without dedicated GPUs hehe

It happens from time to time since most users will only tend to clean off the dusts on the fan blades themselves and neglected the ones at the region around the blade tips... I think , if just using laptop cooler is not enough for serious laptop gamer. Most of the laptop cooler in the market , the fan suck air from bottom(which sometime will suck dust on the table/anything place that you placed the laptop cooler) , then blow up toward the laptop(most laptop bottom is fan intake system) . Which result the laptop also suck some of the dust , dust start to build up inside the laptop cooling system , the heat problem slowly increase as time pass.
