Getting AC Ryan Mini later, any recommendation where to get is cheap? Digital mall or Low yat? I'm an ex WDTV owner, not live. I'm not satisfy with my WDTV performance actually when playing movies like 2012 and Transformers ROTF running in full HD with subtitles ON. Those too much of movements action scene will lags. Without subtitle is smooth.

Got the mini unit today from digital mall. Compared to the WDTV non live version, I can say I'm satisfied with the performance of this unit. Especially when I seek or fwd, it is so smooth. WDTV really lag on this. There is a pros n cons. Too bad this unit doesn't support thumbnail for each movie folder and have to browse by each folder where WDTV has this feature. So I think even if my dad wanna watch the movies also having hard time to figure out how to find a movie to watch.

Overall, is worth the money to get this! happy owner here laugh.gif

I have been streaming 720p and 1080p contents over homeplugs (200mbps version) via UPnP and all is well.

To make it short, Samba is the network file protocol that allows you to read files from a Windows PC via network.
And YAMJ (Yet Another Movie Jukebox) allows you to browse movies on the POHD by their covers/arts rather than file names.
Yes, I'm waiting eagerly for this for POHD mini!  rclxm9.gif
It makes POHD so much more fun to have. rclxm9.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif  thumbup.gif

Correct me if im wrong, I actually browse thru the network and open that file from my PC's location. Whereby PC stream to ps3 it need to use Media streaming software like PS3 media server. The 1st method, encoding is done from the POHD itself, whereby the 2nd method encoding is done from the PC and pass the signal to PS3. I've tested both before, PC stream to PS3 with 1080p full hd with subtitle ON will lag unless u use a powerful PC or more than 100mbps Lan speed, not wifi. But for POHD, is different.

I've been streaming on 100mbps LAN - I get lag during VERY complex scenes (with lots of noise or moving/panning stuffs). Pausing and resuming will help until the buffer is emptied (e.g. if pause for 5 seconds, the next 5 seconds of movie will not lag) making me think it's a buffering issue on the POHD.

LAN is 100Mbps (through a Gigabit backbone), server is a 2.XGhz dual core 2GB running Fedora (powerfull enough just for fileserving), downloads/P2P are on separate HDD, network traffic is low (especially at night when no one in the house is using).

Any ideas? Settings I should play with? I have 2 units- mini and the big one (installed a HDD on the big one hoping that it will use it for buffering- no love, it's still the same)

if normal drama comedy its ok..no problem with 1080p....no lag at all.

but once u start playing movie with a lot of movement then u can see the lagging and stuttering..

i'm using trendnet wireless usb dongle anyway

2901 is buggy...suggest u revert to 2388 firmware, much more stable

I encountered the same problem if I stream using the "Network" option to acces the 720p/1080p content from my NAS. However, using the "UPnP" option instead, no lag at all.

It is not the 720p and 1080p resolution problem, it is the bitrates problem. If the bitrates more then 15mbps, it will lagging. For Network streaming, below 25mbps is ok.
Cheers.
