Timeseek is great , but fast forward and skip is sufficient for most occasion.

Btw, do you what is the time of the scene in the movies 2012 where the aircraft carrier got carried by the tsunami and smash into the whitehouse?
*
Nop. Time seek is for those who like the certain scene and can straight away go to that period to show their friend or others purpose can instantly to that preferable scene. Don't you think if you like to show the movies 2012 where the aircraft carrier got carried by the tsunami and smash into the whitehouse by pressing fast forward each time you show to your friend or you like this scene a bit tedious?
Here are some pros for POHD:

- supports internal HDD up to 2TB
- supports DVD menu navigation: this is a great feature
- can jump to a specific time in a movie
- has a zoom feature that is configurable in 5% increments, up to 300%; you can set width and height with different zoom factor to adjust aspect ratio.
- has a nice support forum and their moderators are helpful and willful to assist you
- configurable subtitles (color, position, size)
- professional remote with volume buttons (more buttons = more difficult to use, but more functions available with a press of a button)
- hdmi cable included

Cheers thumbup.gif

Here are some pros for POHD:

- supports internal HDD up to 2TB (not significant as networking is available...no need the extra heat too)
- supports DVD menu navigation: this is a great feature (With so many HD contents, I don't remember when is the last time I watch DVD...still good to have though)
- can jump to a specific time in a movie (great if you can remember the time of each scene of the movies..btw i have 800 mkvs and I really can't remember any specific time of any scene)
- has a zoom feature that is configurable in 5% increments, up to 300%; you can set width and height with different zoom factor to adjust aspect ratio. (never use the zoom features as i don't see a need for it)
- has a nice support forum and their moderators are helpful and willful to assist you (good to have)
- configurable subtitles (color, position, size) ( just fancy but Live got the basic covered well)
- professional remote with volume buttons (more buttons = more difficult to use, but more functions available with a press of a button)
- hdmi cable included (got the Harmony remote that take care of all)

Cheers thumbup.gif

Don't get me wrong, the POHD is a great media player. In the end I prefer the WDTV Live because it does what it does best that is play all my mkv(including those high reframes mkv) and offer sharper picture quality. Also the menu is much more simple therefore easier to operate by my wife and kids.

WD don't have time seek.. So, consider it as a disadvantage cause it is really important.

Im watching 1080p Transformer 2 using WDTV Live few days ago. Play until 22 min the movie just hang and it can't pass through. I try several time ON and OFF but still the same problem accured. I don't give up and try the same file with my laptop using Divx Player, notice that on frame 22min, there is a fast flicker appear on the movie and the movie still continue playing. This seems that WDTV is unable to pass through with just a very tiny bad sector in the mkv file. The worse case is that, WDTV don't have time seek which I cant watch the rest of the Transformer 2. Hence, now I know time seek is really important features.

You have a good point there, but that really isn't a flaw in the WDTV Live. The bad mkv is the problem here, and being able to play it on the PC is because PC is a very much more powerful machine that cost at least 2 times more.

I guess he wasn't making a point about flaw in WDTV Live or comparing it to a PC. He was just trying to stress how important the Timeseek feature is which the WDTV Live doesn't have.

You are absolutely right! This is one of the usage of time seek. For concert in mkv format, it becomes rather important because we want to watch that particular song, we can go there instantly, no need to fast forward everytime.

Btw, HD RMVB format in HK TV Series is getting more and more, so, this is another advantage for Mum and Dad, I believe.

Most of the concerts mkv i have have chapter search for eg Eagles farewell tour, Celine Dion, and Hitman David Foster all have chapter search. You can also add chapters to all the mkv.

Also a rmvb player is easily available for less than Rm80...that is what i do for my wife, put one unit in the bedroom for her.

I did mention HD RMVB, yr RM80 cannot play this format. Of course, u may say no need the hd rmvb since normal rmvb is more then enough for you. brows.gif

Getting AC Ryan Mini later, any recommendation where to get is cheap? Digital mall or Low yat? I'm an ex WDTV owner, not live. I'm not satisfy with my WDTV performance actually when playing movies like 2012 and Transformers ROTF running in full HD with subtitles ON. Those too much of movements action scene will lags. Without subtitle is smooth.

To make it short, Samba is the network file protocol that allows you to read files from a Windows PC via network.
And YAMJ (Yet Another Movie Jukebox) allows you to browse movies on the POHD by their covers/arts rather than file names.
Yes, I'm waiting eagerly for this for POHD mini! rclxm9.gif
It makes POHD so much more fun to have. rclxm9.gif icon_rolleyes.gif thumbup.gif

You can get POHD mini from:
Digital Mall, P.J. at JL Supercom 2nd Flr Kiosk or Aoneplus
Low Yat Plaza at C-Zone or Viewnet.
SRP is RM489.00. Good luck guys.

But the price for this is not cheap i guess. Hmm...recording function is not a requirement for me as well. Unless i really need to record movies from 8TV or NTV7 la.... laugh.gif Thanks for the info guys!

It should be based on the realtek 1283 chipset, if not mistaken.

DTS-HD downmix to analog or down to DTS 5.1 is ok, no pass thru. Until now, Dolby True HD still cannot work.

Cheers.
