I think TM not allow their IPTV via streamyx because they want to provide HD channel & to guarantee PQ. U know la, stimix not so stable & sometime you'll get very very slow connection.
*
As I said before, I dun care about PQ. I just want my BBC shows. And if DETV's PQ is quite good at 1M, I dun see how TM's can be that bad at 1M.

QUOTE(eMKs @ Mar 10 2010, 09:16 AM)
Astro cannot provide real on-demand because of satellite communication limitation. Real on-demand, you need to request before you can watch it. How do they know you request it? You can't transmit data from decoder to satellite, it just 1 way.
*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB-RCS says it can be done.

Also, Astro claims that their decoder can send back viewer statistics- that's how they decide that BBC has "too few people" watching and axe the channel (for some reason tho, suddenly I remember an old Square One TV Mathnet episode when they told me that).

Something to add about the byond box's capabilities.

So i ran out of HDMI inputs on my AVR (Yamaha RX-V663), i decided to use the Component Output to my AVR.. and after unplugging the cables and re-wired it.. ended up the byond box doesn't output HD resolution via Component! inside Installation Settings, TV Settings, i couldn't change from Standard Definition to High Definition! and so i had to unplug all the cables and re-wire it back to square one..

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is known that HD content would only available in HDMI cable (even it's viewable, but its 576i quality, not 720p or 1080i). it's not the box's fault, it's simply because of industrial standard (as well as HDCP thingy)

Just wait end of this month for TM IPTV launching, maybe you'll get better idea what the're offering. Just pray they will provide 'lite' version to stimix user as well.

I doubt it, if you watch press conference during byond launching day, the CEO said its just 1 way. DVB-RCS need 2-way.

Not industrial standard, since component can do 1080p AND copy protection(using Macrovision). Common belief is that Astro thought it's more feasible to leave out HD over component completely to save money instead of implementing Macrovision over component (and thus needing to pay license for two different copy protection routines) and increase price of decoder.

They better offer a lite version. Or else I will flip out. And I do have an idea of what they're launching after talking to a TMPoint Manager, and they do indeed have the channels I want.

Already do my calculations. Moving to Shah Alam is not feasible monetarily even though it has the secondary upshot of letting me live nearer to my office.

As for the Astro cannot call back... so how did it relay the viewing habits of the family back to Astro? Unless it's like that Mathnet episode... fake survey box, the marketing people is actually pulling the numbers out of their ass and decided to oust channels that they don't like "just because"

Hi all,
Need some confirmation on the byond requirement, installer was onsite and tested the existing signal and the reading is about 55-56, then he told me the cable is not good. a new cable or booster is required. I wonder is there such requirement on the minimum signal.

thanks

55 only? hmm.gif
Installer should install new cable, it's free for 20m. Don't use booster, make sure signal at least 200

The installer tested using his meter on the existing LNB, which i can also see from decoder menu option 2. I have no issue watching all the existing program. Then he told me the signal is too weak for byond and because byond is a high end product and need at the signal at 65 and above. haha he mentioned high0-end smile.gif

well, since all my cables are concealed, he offer me a solution with rm80 booster... i am just curious is there such requirement.

signal 55 is definitely too low.. not sure boaster will works or not but changing the cable is the best option. u can try with new cable (bypass the old concealed cable) to see if it solve the problem or not before think further..

wow bro..u would move to shah alam for IPTV's sake?
good that would do such a thing..committed and all

anyways bro..u seem like a sifu here
can u explain in normal easy-to-understand language for others here like me who dont understand what IPTV brings and means
I seriously want to know how it works and so on..
Tried reading on many websites but hard to grasp how it works and the requirements
And another thing..u know the channels that would be available right? Can u give a list of them?
Thanks sifu notworthy.gif
