Reliable sources confirmed most of the channels going on HD sooner between June & Dec 2010. RM50m spent on couple of HD channel rights
*
Who is the reliable sources? Please give the link at least.
If that true, most likely for the channel that already have HD content. But Astro has more channel that still not available in HD, esp local content.

Please bring ESPN HD first la.... mad.gif

Hi,
I'm not sure if it has been discussed in the old thread, If I'm a new suscriber, the b.yond dish is free if i suscribe for 12 months. Any installation charges? or registration charges? I cant find the cost breakdown in astro webpage. i'M WORRIED ON HIDDEN CHARGES

Also, the RM20 is for 5HD channel depending on the package i suscribe, as they add new channel like Discovery HD, will the RM20 increase?

Thanks for the help/infomation in advance.
*
Please read Astro Byond faq, all info is there except RM10 stamp duty. That is the only hidden charge.

RM10 stamp duty is not confirm, but most probably is true. But other info is there
Bro, i think you should add Byond faq link in your 1st post (charges, process, etc) or summary of faq. It's ver 3 already, but still have new here doesn't know the process.

I also read on page 1 that the rain issue solved? Cool.....means no more disconnection...now its worth it
*
It's not 100% solved. Depend on your signal strength during clear day, you may get service interruption during heavy rain.
But it is significant improvement.
The key thing is:
- change to ODU 65
- installer must align the dish properly
- change to new cable (some people still use existing cable & still ok)

its on heavy rain rite...if the rain oni a bit, should be no problem la i think
*
It does not need to be raining at a location for it to be affected by rain, as the signal may pass through precipitation many miles away, as the dish has a look angle.

US sat providers like Dish and DirecTV charge customers for that function. Hope Astro doesn't.
*
Yeah, hope so. Provided the decoder hardware has the capability to record & current astro max doesn't need to pay additional monthly fee, just need to update the firmware only. But we might not be able to record while watching other channel.

Maybe. But this really show how short term their thinking is. It's more expensive, but will get more people to sign up/upgrade, and they break even faster right?

Or do they still have a decoder shortage problem (which also show how shortsighted they are)? Like the Smart TAG, always out of stock one...
*
They roll out earlier because they want to break even faster (I think la). Also they want to pioneer HDTV market in Malaysia (TM IPTV schedule to launch in Jan this year, but still not available). Eventhough only 4 channel avaialable & they are not fully prepared in term of installer, but subscribers numbers boom already. Maybe it's commercial issue on Discovery HD & some of other channel, who knows. Remember how desperate Astro to sign an exclusive right when they know MiTV planned to launch their PayTV. Maybe we need competitor to make it more faster.

How about the other SD channel, are we still get in 4:3 format or 16:9?
*
yes, still in 4:3 same as its native resolution.
btw, you can stretch it to 16:9 which is not recommended or just leave it in 4:3 with pillar box (black bars at left & right)

Astro Byond outputs are HDMI, component (YCbCr) and Composite.

Yes, you can use HDMI on LCD TV in living room and composite in another room using RCA and at the same time.

An AEM xtra link 2 should work okay.
*
Don't forget, byond doesn't have RF output. As AEM using RF signal to transmit video/audio/remote command you need to buy AV to RF converter. CRT tv is better for your 2nd tv. The other thing is byond only have 1 remote, i don't know how to get 2nd remote.

I want to connect the 2nd tv using RCA cable. AEM use only for changing the channel, its no connected to the tv. Can use right?
*
Don't know about AEM, haven't try it. Maybe you can try on your existing decoder by plugging out AEM connector from RF out at astro decoder, if you still can control, it should work. Also you might want to try component (add 2 more cable) instead of composite (if your 2nd tv have component in) as it provide better PQ.

Nevertheless, the picture and sound quality of the existing SD channels will be enhanced due to better aspect ratio handling and a direct HDMI connection with the television.
Is that something has been done or they are going to do? Apparently, I haven't notice better aspect ratio handling for existing SD channel.

aiiii what?

Barely anyone in Malaysia have 3D capability HDTV.

It would not be an economically or even commercially viable move to provide 3D service right now when there is only a handful of people have such units.
*
Even if it's available, there will be lack of content for 3D. Remember what happen to IMAX in Times Square.

QUOTE(dxjb @ Feb 2 2010, 04:35 PM)

1.Is the HD and SD  channels volume difference still an issue or do i need to do something to fox it?

2. If I set my pic resolution to 1080i, the picture of my SD channels kinds of jerks or have minor stuck2. Its not that bad but it can be seen. If I changed to 720p it will be fine and smooth. Is there any difference to my HD channels if I pick 720p rather than 1080i?

help needed please. icon_question.gif
thanks
*
1. Yes, HD channel is louder than SD. it's a known issue, but still dunno if astro really want to fix it. So, just control your tv volume. nod.gif
2. Just stick with your preference based on judgement from your own eyes. Different people have different preference. If you set to 720p, your tv will display it just it is. If you set to 1080i, your tv will processed it using de-interlaced filter (different tv have different filter & will result in different quality) before display it.
If you ask me, i prefer 1080i for full HD tv & 720p for HD ready tv.

Byond native resolution is 1080i mainly, but 720p for sports.

so is the jerking problem related to my tv?
im using samsung 42' inch plasma tv..
dunno whether full hd or not
huhuhu
*
Not to say so, but might be.
If you didn't notice any different between 1080i/720p on HD channel, better set to 720p as 1080i annoying you on SD channel.
Just type your tv model, Google it will help to find the spec.

1 way to check your tv de-interlaced filter, compare PQ between 576i & 576p set on byond, watch normal scene & fast action scene (both must be HD channel) will give you some idea. U need to use HDMI, component/composite only output 576i.

can  i ask something?
i have synced my Byond remote to use with my Samsung Plasma
but why when i turn on my tv using Byond remote it goes to TV1 through analog and not the hdmi signal? I have to use my tv remote to switch to hdmi channel to watch astro again..anyone with any tips 4 me?
*
Yeah, almost everyone is like that. It's like tv power button actually sending TV1 code together with on/off code.
You'll notice that sometime when you try to switch off tv using byond remote, it goes to tv1. U need to press again to switch off the tv, then when u on back it will go to tv1.
U can also switch to HDMI input using byond remote. At the bottom left, u'll find AV button.

What i'm doing is switch off tv using tv remote control, then u can switch on using byond remote. It works for me.
