interesting insider info, so astro is going to use all 12 transponders in measat 3A, but I think it is still not enough capacity in measat 3A to braodcast all channels in HD, they can only transmit 5 HD channels per transponder
*
I guess its upscaling to HD not HD channels cos there are not many HD channels anyway to start with icon_rolleyes.gif

Hold your horses ! Astro remains a weather detector, no doubts about it i had my blackout two days ago due to very heavy rain. Airplanes should seriously consider Astro for more accurate info rclxm9.gif
Only the codes are gone!

if it is upscaled, then it still needs the same bandwidth as the real HD channel

I think astro will use some of the transponders from old measat 3 to transmits some of the HD channels
*
Thats right too, so then maybe complete HD could be just rumours ! hmm.gif

Lets not cast too many expectations on ESPN HD it may not be as expected just Wait N See ! Astro assured ESPN HD but remember the schedule could be a surprise or could be a dissappointment. I guess the schedule terms is causing the delay .As it is we have Asian versions and now even malaysian versions so hold on please ! hmm.gif

MioTV:
- HD5
- Li
- We TV
- Sundance

Starhub:
- HD5
- Nat Geo HD
- Discovery HD
- History HD
- Sports HD
- ASN HD (the channel Astro Supersports HD is leaching off 99% of the time)
- HBO HD

Hmmm, looks like Singapore has no ESPN HD after all... Does this channel really exist or did Astro pull the name out of thin air?

Also, where's AXN HD? laugh.gif

Please note that Astro supersport HD is only showing selected matches from ASN and is Off air most of the time icon_rolleyes.gif

I'm betting that it's something run from Astro's own transmitter, they just license the name only. Unless we're going to be the first in Asia to get the channel...
Then dun need to expect it for now lor. Portugal means that it's only relayed to European satellites. Must wait for a AXN HD Asia. Which is unlikely because we dun even have AXN beyond.
*
I too bet its gonna be a ESPN/Astro JV OR just another SIMULCAST of ESPN SD rclxub.gif hmm.gif

Agreed. Only in Malaysia that a satellite provider is allowed to monopolize the market even when mass public complain. Like last time. People complain that service not good. What did MCMC do? Extend Astro's monopoly rights by 5 years. Now we will not see a competing satellite provider in the market until 2025! mad.gif  vmad.gif  And even worse, they help Astro by blocking them from bringing in new channels, effectively going against the people's complaints! mad.gif  vmad.gif

I also undertstand from a close source that the amount of chinese and Indian channels is also controlled my MMC,.One Malaysia ! One Provider rclxm9.gif vmad.gif brows.gif

This is what ASTRO reply regarding the launch of ESPN HD;

Thank you for your e-mail of 25 January 2010.

We wish to inform you that ESPN HD will be introduced soon. However, the exact launching date will be advertised once it is confirmed via on air promos and our website at www.astro.com.my.
Please note that not all programmes are available or produced in high definition broadcasts at the moment. High definition is still a relatively new and expensive system. Just like the transition from black and white television broadcast to colour television broadcast, it will take a little while more before we get to a stage where all channels are in high definition. Nevertheless, the picture and sound quality of the existing SD channels will be enhanced due to better aspect ratio handling and a direct HDMI connection with the television.
Should you have any other enquiries, kindly contact our Contact Centre at 1300-82-3838 which is operational from 8.00 am to 12.00 midnight daily or email to wecare@astro.com.my.

We appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you.

Yours sincerely,

I started worried that Astro cannot fulfill their promise within this month. Based on above reply, the promo should be advertised if they want to launch at least on 31st Jan. I think they are facing problem regarding broadcasting rights due to this is our own creation channel..just like ASSP HD. They have to select some HD programme to fulfill their schedule, and their struggle to keep interesting line up in ASSP HD. In Singapore, Starhub only create one sport channel in HD. They called "Sport HD" which they are combine EPL, La Liga and few golf programme. So If we have 2 channel, I'm doubt they can fulfill their schedule.
Anyway, hope Astro will do everthing and launch it at least on 31st January.

I think starhub has 18 sports channels covering various sports and one full HD channel ASN.

StarHub adds Fox trio

Singaporean pay-TV platform StarHub TV is to add three channels from Fox International Channels to its line-up in February.

Nat Geo Music, Fox and Koran entertainment net Total Variety Network (TVN) will go live on StarHub from February 1, adding to a number of FIC channels already available on the platform.

Fox, which airs US series, will be available on the basic entertainment package. It is currently shown in South- East Asian, Japan and Korea, and worldwide in the Middle East, US, Latin America and Spain.

Nat Geo Music, which profiles musicians and musical cultures, will run on StarHub's Education Upsize package. TVN, which offers a variety of Korean-produced drama, reality and lifestyle shows, will air on the Entertainment Upsize group.

Recent months have seen StarHub grab Malaysia-based Astro All Asia Networks, ITV Global Entertainment's Granada TV and English-language news channel Russia Today for its bespoke channel packages.

Ong Bee Lian, StarHub's VP of home solutions, said: "Our relationship with Fox has built another milestone with the launch of these three new channels. We are delighted that our customers are able to enjoy the fruits of our union. We constantly aim to bring added value to our customers by offering them a wide variety of branded channels, and strengthening our highly acclaimed content from all over the world."

Additionally, Nat Geo Wild will now appear on the basic education package.

Guys, Do you know where to send email to Astro that u can suggest for improvement in current services provided?

Just found that B.yond comes with another version of Astro Stock Link(888). In terms of user friendliness and information displayed, it is not as good the the last version.  sad.gif

Here are some of the issues i found out :
1) Prefer the old version as the first page will show Index Summary, Total Gainers and Losers, Top 10 Volume, Total Transactions wherelse the new version needs to navigate to the respective screen to see it(for example, need to select Top 10 option in order to see the Top 10 volume)

2) Old version has got 4 rows for data per page instead of 3 rows of data per page for the new version. Old version has got all relevent data being displayed in each page, wherelse new version has irrelevant data displayed in each page.
For examle,
- old version has got, Buyer Volume, Buyer Price, Seller Price, Seller Volume in 1 page
- new version has got ---------Last, Volume, Buy Quantity---------(1 page)    -------Buyer Price, Buyer Quantity, Seller Price------(another page)

3) Scrolling through pages of stocks is troublesome as the 'Page up' and 'Page Down' button is missing in the B.yond remote control.
*
Aiyaah when Astro listen to customer !!!! You can write and get their standard reply thats all. What they give we must take ,rain NO signal means No signal dont complain.Somemore this Beyond box is free mah ! notworthy.gif hmm.gif

u need to program the remote according the brand...u can check how to program in ur b.yond manual guide...there, sammy got many codes to try...as like other brands...

now, i can simpan my tv remote..hehe, just use one remote oni...
*
A word of caution, if can pls avoid programming the TV with Asstro's remote esp. if your tv is not the latest which can accept this. I had a Samsung 2007 model programmed all okay after less then a month The TV went to standby mode and cannot be turned on forever, the technician could not find anything wrong finally blamed on the on off electonic system which could have hanged due to remote programming and could cost a few hundreds! Pls note that LCD repairs costs a bomb ! I did not wish to repair it cos it was a 50hz hd ready not full hd, traded in for RM500 and got a Toshiba and with the Redza link NO programming is needed the TV wld read and act accordingly even turning on your AVR ! This is only my opinion on programing all remotes esp be cautious do not allow Beyond remote to handle your tv please ,it May interfere with your TV I repeat it MAY interfere with the system .hmm.gif :

Ok. Sorry then.

What about S band tho, which in my understanding is used by Indonesia's IndoVision satellite provider? Some members mentioned that they have witnessed the system work in the midst of a tropical storm. Furthermore, the provider has channels that I want badly.

I really cannot comprehend this. We are supposed to be more advanced than Indonesia. Yet our system fails when a tropical storm hits (don't even need tropical storm. Heavy rain is enough to KO Astro) and they even have better channels than us.
*
Yes we were supposed to be more advanced then Indonesia we went to indonesia tried to be smart to controll live telecast of all football matches we were sent off !!!!We using Ku band is Politics and business nothing else.Who cares u cannot get signal when it rains just wait for rain to stop ! This is Malaysia,I wonder what the courts wld say if we took it up against the provider hmm.gif

For me, PQ is not really a concern. What I want is my shows. Besides, Astro has like 3-4 dozen AOD channels. Do we really need that many AOD channels? Is it even correct to call it on-demand, since it's not really on-demand in the first place? In the US, on-demand means something that works like a combination of Netflix and Youtube that streams the video to a decoder. Not looping a same episode of a specific show for days on end.
Ask those people who install such illegal dish...
*
Yes agreed, however we cannot reason things from this perspective, U S is U S but this is Malaysia here everything is in Demand people still buy AOD without complains vmad.gif Thier tactics failed only in Indonesia but with strong govt. backing it was a huge sucess here ! rclxms.gif

if i'm not mistaken, I read somewhere, even Indovision have so much channel than Astro, but their PQ not so good than Astro...
they said Astro Nusantara (now already "gulung tikar") have better PQ than Indovision...

Added on February 14, 2010, 11:19 am

I think, if Astro is transmitting in C-band... it will cost us more since C-band dish and LNB are more expensive than Ku-band LNB...
and the size of c-band dish also will make problem here... are u want to put BUD (Big Ugly Dish) on your roof....  blink.gif
*
If we use CBand the BUD will make it difficult for them to catch us if we fix illegal dishes thats why I think Kuband is used cos now if illegal BUD is used catching us is so simple ! rclxm9.gif Everything is becoming small and compact I just wish they came out with a compact dish of Astro's size to enable us recieve free worldwide FTA hmm.gif
