QUOTE(JOR23N @ Mar 7 2010, 03:48 PM) If the TV support 720p and 1080i, 1080i is recommended. Since Astro's native signal is in that resolution.QUOTE(digilife @ Mar 7 2010, 05:30 PM) If you were using a different resolution before, I think yes. This post has been edited by RAMChYLD: Mar 7 2010, 07:00 PM |

720p is sharper than 1080i, that's the video said.
For video that has fast moving scene, it's true. But actually you can get 1080i sharper with normal scene. If your TV has good de-interlacer or external de-interlacer, you can get better result. I mean for Full HD TV. This post has been edited by eMKs: Mar 8 2010, 04:33 PM |

Do you change the resolution on the decoder? How do I know I'm watching 1080i or 720p? My TV is Full HD, btw and the feed from Astro B.Yond is fed through HDMI.

My TV is Full HD, btw and the feed from Astro B.Yond is fed through HDMI. the HD decoder will not indicate the channel's original resolution, but for HD it is either 1080i or 720p, for SD it is broadcast at 576iif you select 1080i in the box, everything will be upscaled to be 1080i, your TV will then deinterlace it to become 1080p if 720p is selected in the box, 576i will be upscaled, 1080i content will be down-scaled, your TV will again convert everything to 1080p |

Im in total shock right now.. How the heck last week [check previous pages (30-50)] we got news that there is no F1 in HD until 2011 Not in Malaysia only but the whole world will have to wait until 2011 It was reported that FIA (the racing governing body) still not prepared for HD Now suddenly we get news F1 in HD on ESPN I know initially before launching ESPN HD, Astro did say F1 will be in HD So there are 3 scenarios now, Either FIA are now suddenly prepared for F1 HD around the world or Astro dont know there is no F1 HD until next year and this is an error or They will upscale the content of the normal SD feed Anyways..im hoping it is true that F1 will be in HD NASCAR seems great in HD, F1 with Schumacher back and Lotus 1Malaysia also in should be a cracker!!! may I know whether F1 was actually broadcast in 16:9 or 4:3...??
If they already broadcast it in 16:9.., I think, it's not really problem when they upscale it since the sources itself already in 16:9, but if the sources is in 4:3... ready to see the "wide" racing car... |

Yeah, upscale SD content will be better on ESPN HD rather than Star Sport.
If Astro can provide SD channel PQ just like PQ on HD channel downscaled to 576i, it will be much much better.
