I was wondering, with a bachelor degree and few years work experience what kind of jobs I can find in Melbourne while I am doing my masters , and what would be the average monthly salary that I can make?

Is it possible to fully pay my living expenses by working ?

Menial jobs which don't need a degree. Or tutoring undergraduates.

The reality is, as a Masters student, you are a student, and as a student you will be limited to working 20 hours a week tops. Regardless of your skillset in your undergraduate degree, few employers would want to employ you for 20 hrs a week. So, its down the menial jobs that usually don't need your degree.

If you're lucky, you may be able to get a position tutoring undergraduates in your university, but they are thin on the ground at times.

well since your studying for a Masters. You will be on your Student Visa and that would limit you to working 20 Hours a week during academic semesters to comply with student visa regulations. So you most probably only can do the same kind of part time works undergrads do that doesn't require you to have a degree or much or no experience to do ^^"

But i felt that studying in Australia was much more relaxing when compared to studying in Malaysia. Cause most subjects in Malaysia emphasize memorizing while in Australia was application of what u learn. That is my experience biggrin.gif

Is it cheaper to go for Off-campus accommodation?

Which one would you recommend off-campus or on-campus? and why?

I will be attending Monash university at the Caulfield campus.

Definitely on campus. In the most simple sense, you will not feel lonely because there are so many people around you.

Money wise, it adds up to about the same, I already did the calculations.

I'm in the Clayton campus.

Occasionally it depends on the tutor, the classic "good tutor bad tutor" thing for undergrats, sometimes tutor are evil enough to fail you

Btw, anyone did Industrial Design here in Aus?

im going to move from perth (previously planned to study in UWA) to UNSW for studies...

is it a good move??

reason to move:
Better infrastucture
Theory vs Practical
More happening

con
no concession in travels
high expenses than perth

anything else that i should take note?

anyway im planning to study Science field in unsw and still deciding whether to move until i finish my uwafp at the mid of sep...

need some opinion and comments about it...cheers!!!=)

oh hey, you're in taylors too? =) I was from there 2 years ago. um, for what i know UWA's science and research is quite strong as well. I'm not to sure about UNSW though, but both are good universities. It depends on what type of living you'll like to be in. I personally love perth cos it's not too busy or quiet, and yes the public transport just kick ass. =D Syd would definitely be more busy and entertaining than perth no doubt. In the end, it comes down to you weighing the disadv and adv of the 2 sides. which major are you intending to go into?

okay here is another question.
I am going to apply for my student visa and it says documents must be certified by a Notary public or Commissioner for oaths,

How much do they charge to certified documents ? can anyone tell me where they have certified their documents ? or where can i go to do that?
*
Correct me if I am wrong, since when do we have to submit any documents for student visa, I thought it was all done online?

i think most unis have their pro and cons. It is just based on what you want to get when you go to Australia.
Definitely, certain unis have better reputations than others. However, you have to also consider your budget, family (if you have relatives there).

So if you have a restricted budget, you should look at smaller unis outside of the city centre since that would bring down the cost of living by as much as half if you stay in CBD.

But if budget is not an option, just consider which course would be more tailored to what you want. You can always go through the three unis website to see what is the course like, then maybe you can narrow down. Because the subjects might be slightly different.

Did you manage to go to IDP open day last month? That is also a good place to ask the uni representative of the courses, how is the campus life there and so on...
