Actually, contrary to popular belief, there are special entrance requirements for some specialised courses. To do music/dance in QUT requires an audition. To do visual arts they look at a portfolio rather than the standard Year 12 results. Film making requires one to make a pitch in a video uploaded to Youtube.

The only thing is that most Malaysians do the same boring courses of Engineering/Science/Law/Business/Commerce/Accounting, which are generally non-critical. The only exception i can think of is education, but then the interview is more of to make sure you're not a child molester than any entrance exam.

I can't say for any mass communication course, but i wouldn't be surprised that academic requirements are given a back seat to more practical means of vetting.

What i am interested through, is what kind of foundation program member Rustie is going through. In the absense of more specific information, no one give the full picture, so to speak.

not sure about entrance exam but i am RMIT student taking Bachelor of IT and all the students need to go through Skill Survey(a simple test) at orientation to evaluate your skill and then determine what course/subject you should take..

about the cgpa, mine is lower than yours(seriously malaysia is not an ideal place for me to study because of many friends around me) and i still managed to get in with some credits exempted..

yeah I know that just that talking in context of v2Rustie I am not aware of Mass Comm students having to go through any special stests ^^"
Though we need to know what Foundation is he/she doing ^^" and well he got to first check whether that foundation is even accepted by the university.

sorry my bad. its not called an entrance exam but rather a supplementary form is needed to be filled in order to send in your application to RMIT. in it, few questions such as why u wanna study in RMIT/AUS and also a few related to mass communications is needed to be answered in order to complete your application. so my question is how many ppl sat for this supplementary form or 'EXTRA REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SELECTION OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS' and actually failed to get an offer from rmit..i just wanna noe whether i stand any chance to enter this uni...btw i just found out im not qualified to enter UQ.. that is so sad, i could try to send in my application but the chances are i wont be able to land myself with a seat. now i noe why ppl say 'better study ah~!' now i noe = = start to regret adi...

P/S i did my foundation in taylors. its the foundation of mass communication
*
hum I'm not aware if the Foundation in Communication in Taylor's is recognized in other places. Guess you would have to contact RMIT to know if they recognize or not. Last July I got a friend who just finished Foundation in Communication as well and she wanted to try and apply to other IPTS but she said it wasn't recognized by any of the ones she asked. You'd have to contact the Universities directly to know whether they recognize it or not.Have you went and consulted Taylor's Placement Center,IDP or any agent?

Alternatively why don't you just join the Taylor's twinning programme with UniSA,score good scores this time first during your first year and then try for a credit transfer from there.

i've consulted aus ed agent just about 2 hours ago.. they ask me to filled up the given forms including the international student extra requirements and they will send it to aus for a offer reply. i didnt chose the unisa because i have family members in gold coast and melbourne...so i opted to be near my family members so that i wont feel so homesick. also i heard that rmit have really good job placement/internship programme that will eventually help me find a job in australia. this is because i might wanna migrate to australia later on...and i've been told that rmit internship programme is actually compulsory if u wanna complete ur degree there.
*
it really depends on your course..
internship is not compulsory and you can't get it if your GPA not sufficient..
and i nvr heard about supplementary that need to answer some question..
i think you should prepare all your documents and try to apply for it..and also try look the description of the course you want to take..

p/s: i'm now completing my degree without any internship and i've been told there is an option for internship but you must get certain GPA like above 3.0 or 3.5...

i think the supplementary form is needed only for certain courses. not all the courses requires it. u can check this website to see whether your course is listed in it or not. http://www.rmit.edu.au/browse;ID=mwa63bn25wjbz. i think the main purpose of this supplementary form is to evaluate your command of english. but i hope i do well on it tho. hehee pray for me aight? btw hihihehe bro, dont mind me asking which pre-u u took b4 entering RMIT because as bro Hikari0307 mention i dunno whether taylors foundation is recognized or not.
*
not pre-u or foundation..

took diploma from KDU College and continue my degree at RMIT with credits excempted(3 years become 1.5 years)

Again, this is course specific, but internship is not mandatory for most courses I see. Yes, there is a option, but note that that door may be closed to international students, GPA or not.

The simple fact is that international students can only work 20 hours a week, and that is simply not enough time for places that will take in students for work experience. Thus, many of these internship places are actually closed to international students.

yup that's the only Foundation relating to Communication in Taylor's so that is what he should be studying I think. Since the programme is still relatively new I don't know how well accepted it is.

like I said before if you can't get in alternatively you can just join the UniSA twinning in Taylor's and score well in your first year. Then you can try to credit transfer to RMIT or some other universities in the second year.

hi guys, im looking forward to continue my degree (bach of communications) in australia. my choices are either griffith uni (gold coast) or uni of quennsland (brisbane) being that i have some relatives living in gold coast its easier to have a little company especially over the weekends. the things is, i cant decide amongst these two. 1st of all, UQ is ranked number 4 (in whole of aus) according to my research and its under the group of 8 (the eight top uni of aus) while griffith falls under the top 20. my question is, is going to a more prestigious uni any good in this situation? UQ vs GRIFFITH as i may put it. my considerations not only falls on having relatives in gold coast, as fees is a matter too. the fees by studying in brisbane is roughly 15k aussie more compared to griffith. can some1 who is studying either in griffith or UQ help me on making this decision?
*
Hello V2Rustie,

I graduated from Griffith University, i have no idea in UQ, none of my friends who study at UQ, therefore i couldn't give u any feedback but i do recommend you look at QUT, it is quite good uni. Fun fact: Griffith University is one of the top 5 uni in Art/media advertising.

Now if you pick Griffith University, i feel that the grade is easy to pass, considering you follow their courses guideline. About Bachelor of communications, i think you need to decides yourself, i believes education at Griffith are quite good, the only thing you need to worry that less Malaysian will pick Griffith, majority are either H.K, Taiwanese or China. So.... i guess you need to speak Cantonese and Mandarin to communicate with them, they can speak English but not that well. Well, you need to make friends to help you in hard time right? =)

Okay, majority of Malaysian will pick UQ, i think that is a lot of recommendation college recognize UQ and feel that it is appropriate to study your college recommendation since you have no idea what good uni in Australia and feel unsecured to study other uni. That's pretty normal, so no worries.

Um, yes you can used your diploma if it is related, you could apply for credit transfer, like i did. I didn't have to study 1 years and the half. (smiley face for me) =D

so, good luck, enjoy your time in Australia, go clubbing often, go hangout with other international student, like me. =)

why do you need to convert? For application purposes? What qualification do you hold? It is not possible as far as I know to convert ATAR to CGPA as the way you get the same ATAR is not the same each year.

Collect all the cgpa results of all student doing the same course as you, eg all the stpm and matrik results, rank all the students, then see where your cgpa is in the list, and that is your atar rank.........

ie if your cgpa is 3.7, and there are 15% of students with higher cgpa than you, your atar is 85.........

hum that's weird asking for ATAR from somebody trying to do a credit transfer ^^" Did you state that in your application form? ^^"
usually most Aussie unis asked for Weight Average Marks rather for cases like that as far as I know. You should email Macquarie to clarify the matter.
