Anyone from kota kinabalu, sabah got the beyond? Wonder how long do the installer need to come n setup for me. Can't wait to get the beyond and give them a try, as i just got myself a brand new DENON AVR-4810 receiver, and would really like to try how's those stock HDMI cable compare with those audioquest and QED HDMI cables, i do believe there's differences between them. Just like you can reach JB from KL say 4 hrs driving your very own mercedes, driving kancil also 4 hrs. What's the difference? You know i know lo
*
if u have that cable, just try it...rite now i use QED HDMI-P...it better than d cable supplied by astro...minimal fast object ghosting .

both your new and old decoders will be able to tune to SD channels simultaneously
however when your HD decoder is tuning to HD channel, it selected higher frequency range in LNB, old decoder also forced to receive higher frequency, but there is no SD channels in these higher frequency.
*
Does it mean that have to tune any SD channel before switching from the b.yond to old decoder? shall try it out tonight.

i think people are over excited with the only 4 HD channels by byond but ignoring 2 serious problems of byond that many have reported:

1) SD channels picture quality is poorer if watch via HDMI
2) byond component and composite output for many decorders (if not ALL) are having problem which mean you stuck with HDMI output and poorer SD channels via HDMI

I have signed up on 17 Dec and only got their call for confirmation of T&C on 23 Dec after giving them a follow-up call.

Till now, yet to receive any call on installation arrangement.

With the unsatisfactory feedback from those who have the new decoder, I am reconsidering whether to proceed with the installation since most of the programmes that my family is watching are still in SD -- Wah Lai Toi and AOD.

just curious...how to select this #18...have open but cannot select...

finally i managed to change satellite entry point from #1 to #18. previously i said there is no "OK" or "Yes" button to save my new settings. but after recieved updating from astro (around 1am today) i managed to see the "OK" or "Yes" button. My software version rite now is 1.0.1.001 dec 23 2009.

for me sd channel via hdmi is acceptable, slightly improve the PQ. b4 this using composite. connect my second tc(crt) via wireless av transmitter(bought @ jalan pasar) without any problem. happy with pq & sq quality.

to be honest, the output from hdmi for SD channels are ok la, not much diff from component that its a little more vibrant and sharper.

the reason is simple

vibrant because the SD channels did not go through upscale by the decoder, hence most colour information is retained when not resized. once resize from 576i to 1080i... its such a big difference... colour appear to be less vibrant and a little more dull

sharper because it did not go through scaling again, resize to such a big resolution results in slight blurness that is quite negligible in this case.

Overall, here is the reason why I'd prefer broadcasted resolution instead of 1080i fixed.... because with broadcasted resolution, once tuned SD it will be 576i and the tv will know how to adjust properly... and i have to say the tv resize capabilities of mine is far better than the one inside the decoder box. Of course you might argue will have a blank moment for the tv to adjust the settings, but i'd say i wouldnt mind...better than tuning component for SD and hdmi for HD, even more troublesome since I need to manually change the AV channel on my tv.

Try upnplugging it from mains, wait few minutes, then plugging back. Once plug back, leave it on standby (let LED show time) for a few hours. Mine updated as soon as the installer connected the dish cable to the box and then unplug the decoder and plug back in.

Another thing Astro should offer on the decoder: a "check for updates now" option in the setup screen, Like PS3 and Wii. Make things easier. Also, they should put the "download channel list" option. I cannot find the option on the b.yond box.

you can ask the astro CS for the installer contact after 1 week of the T&C comformation. sometimes installer didn't manage to get the correct customer contact from Astro. for my case, I signed up on 22 Dec and confirmation of T&C on 23 Dec, installer told me he got my byond decode on 28 Dec but he can't reach me with the wrong phone contact provided by astro, on 30 Dec 2 pm I called astro CS to get the installer contact and installer came to my place immediately after i contacted him.

Both byond and old decode, Picture quality almost same lah for composite out. only the byond component out give problem.
