yes, this is the main concern.. as for me, i've no doubt on the HD channel eventhough it's 720p n upscaling
to 1080i. But what about the rest of SD channel? My wife sure will  mad.gif after those free promo of astro byond been
briefed  by me for last couple of weeks, end up the SD PQ worst than current composite cable set up biggrin.gif
And all those NatGeo, History n sports mostly watch by me only...

First, buy a rm50 s-video cable and second, change to plasma TV if you re not on one yet, and I'm sure she will be impressed smile.gif Composite video on an LCD TV will give the worst performance of SD astro.

tq for those suggestion. I already into the LCD TV. My samsung series 5 do not have any s-video input. Anyway if she can bare with composite, hope
that with HDMI the PQ for SD channel will be no less than composite set up n great if it can be better.

More or less the same on SD channels. Hard to tell. But the stereo sound is definitely better.
Wait until they have better ways of utilizing the overscan video output (thru HDMI) and smarter ways to stretch the 4:3 source.
*
Same here. Hard to tell. May be s-video (old decoder)slightly better. But depends on channel. Indian channels (like zee etc) looks ok.
But they promise it'll be better with mpeg4!

Tried to connect the component input simultaneously for SD channels - doesn't look that good. Via HDMI slightly better to my eyes. Furthermore I think there's a bit of flickering and there's a faint blue line appears in the middle of the screen.

Using Pana 42 - TH-42PS10K.

I can switch to and fro (flipping between TV input). Sound goes out via composite.

All function looks fine accept the PQ reported above.

I think I'll make do with the SD PQ via HDMI.

I've checked my pana, it has ability to turn off overscan - should I do this? Is it a good idea? why? - so that it's exact 1 to 1 mapping of pixel?

After going through here,it seems that there is quite a number of people who have problem that is distorted video while using component or composite. I am also having this problem when I use composite to see SD channels. Any idea what is the problem?
*
Hi, I managed to solved the composite - picture shaking problem, just goto the TV-picture menu setting (for pana plasma/LCD TV) , turn "off" the 3D-Com option and set P-NR to weak or middle. but my component 1/2 top section picture distorted problem still remain unsolve . cry.gif

Anyone from kota kinabalu, sabah got the beyond? Wonder how long do the installer need to come n setup for me. Can't wait to get the beyond and give them a try, as i just got myself a brand new DENON AVR-4810 receiver, and would really like to try how's those stock HDMI cable compare with those audioquest and QED HDMI cables, i do believe there's differences between them. Just like you can reach JB from KL say 4 hrs driving your very own mercedes, driving kancil also 4 hrs. What's the difference? You know i know lo

4 issues i want to know before getting B.Yond: hmm.gif

1. Is SD PQ on B.Yond better or worse compared with the old Astro decoder?

2. In V1.0 a lot of people complained about the volume difference between SD and HD channels. Is the problem still there or has it been fixed or do we need to fix it ourselves?

3. What should I set up once I get the B.Yond box? After the installer leaves, what should I do to get the best PQ and sound quality? I'm using SAMSUNG SERIES 4 Plasma TV PS42B430.

4. Can use old cable from dish to decoder or does the installer replace the old cable with a new one?

Please guys. Help me. Thank you icon_rolleyes.gif

What overscan does is zoom into the picture by about 3-5%. The internal video scaler will compensate by filling up the gaps. But just like zooming in a photo, it degrades it a bit.

For me, I would turn off overscan primarily because I have movies in 1.85:1 aspect ratio in my collection. I want to see the whole picture and not a zoomed in one.

Bad analogy. Four people can be in that JB-KL trip and each of them will experience things differently; the smell, the sights, the jokes and the silence. Just ask each of them what do they get out of the trip and each will tell things differently.

Digital data is not like that. You can spend money on those expensive HDMI cables but at the end, they'll still deliver the same digital data than RM22 HDMI cable from Carrefour can give.
