B.yond has no S-Video. So most likely no. You can have the RCA audio tho. Or if you can find some way to downsample component to S-Video.

The b.yond has no S-Video out. If you need to use S-Video, you have to find for a device that converts component video to S-Video.
Something like this: http://www.svideo.com/appletv2tv.html

It's not cheap tho. I think better idea to rewire the TVs to use component if you emphasize quality.

Well, you can still go for b.yond, if you can find that component to S-Video converter. Look into Pasar Road, maybe they have converter at cheaper price.

Of course, understand that even using this way, you can only get HD on the main TV (which need to have HDMI connector), the one in the same room with the b.yond. All other TVs will receive SD picture.

Can. But the decoder will only output 5.1 through coaxial digital audio. And HD only comes out through HDMI.

Component cable is with 3 RCA jack, Red, Blue and Green. Buy a reasonable quality one, usually cost less than RM100.
*
Buy it from Tesco or Carrefour. Under RM20, I think.

QUOTE(TVSPY @ Jan 16 2010, 01:21 AM)
HDMI does not support 5.1 you can only get 5.1 via a digital audio coax.
Not true.

QUOTE
and there is no dolby on SD channels in fact dolby only happens on some programmes on HD.
*
For Astro, yes no DD for SD channels. But they can do it if they want to. Audio for the SD channels are already encrypted in MPEG-2 audio.

QUOTE(RAMChYLD @ Jan 16 2010, 02:26 AM)
HDMI can support 5.1 (can support 7.1 max), but only in PCM. So Dolby cannot get through HDMI, but PCM audio can.
Are you talking about the B.yond decoder or HDMI in general? Because I've heard from other users that they use the B.yond->Receiver->HDTV HDMI connection and they can get DD 5.1

For the record, HDMI 1.3, which is what B.yond has, can support Multichannel PCM 7.1, Dolby TrueHD 7.1 bitstream and DTS HDMA bitstream. So logically, it supports DD and DTS bitstreams as well.

QUOTE
It's possible to split, but very expensive...
*
For longer splits, you need to convert the HDMI signal to CAT5 cabling and then back again.

And again, the issue is still the same - DD 5.1 against HDTVs with no DD 5.1 downconversion. If the HDTVs in the house do not have this feature, you need 5.1 receivers in every room to get the HD channels. So you need either HDTVs that can downconvert the DD 5.1 or get HTiBs for each room.

HDMI can support 5.1 (can support 7.1 max), but only in PCM. So Dolby cannot get through HDMI, but PCM audio can. The Astro decoder need to decode the 5.1 audio and send it through HDMI. But Astro being Astro, lazy, just send either DD bitstream or 2.0 PCM stream straight from satellite signal to HDMI, no option to decode dd bitstream into 5.1 PCM audio and send through HDMI.
*
I thought HDMI can accept any signal you throw to it? What about those DD TrueHD or DTS HDMA?

It's the accepting equipment (TV, AVR) etc that must have the capability to decode the signal that's carried by the HDMI cable. So, for the Astro Byond case, you can't set to DD 5.1 when your TV can't decode DD 5.1, thus no sound come out. Even some AVR with the HDMI connection just act as switch function but can't decode the DD5.1 signal carried by the HDMI.

from my observation - through the HDMI source, SD is not that bad actually...just try to adjust the colour tv if you're not happy...

i've also used the component output from beyond to my LCD's component in - not sure why but i still prefer SD via the HDMI source...

so yeah...just try both inputs for SD - no harm there smile.gif
*
For my test, HDMI quality better than component.
And those monster HDMI vs normal HDMI will give almost same quality.

Anyone here using Sony LCD V series with byond?
I'm kinda fed up to set byond remote to control my tv volume.

When im using option 1, all sony 4-digit code cannot control my tv volume. But some of it can control av & power function.

Using option 2 until step 4, my tv turns off when pressing ch+ on the 3rd time. by then, it can control my tv volume but not av function (I don't mind, seldomly use it) but as soon as I press OK button (step 5), volume cannot control anymore. When i left it without pressing OK, the volume cannot control anymore after 20s.

Anyone here has the same problem? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Actually dun need so difficult. Standard yellow-red-white cable also can use for component. Just plug yellow into green, red to red and white to blue. Then use another just red and white cable for audio. The color coding is just for convenience. Copper cable is copper cable.
*
agree to that...actually nearly any coaxial cable with 75 ohm with RCA terminated connector can become a digital audio or video cable interchangeably...it's just the quality of the materials used in the construction that defers in its quality...

i've used both proper component and those el-cheapo red white and yellow cables and i can't see any difference....but maybe that's just my poor vision tongue.gif

and i've used the e-cheapo cable too as my digital coaxial to my AV...i could still get 5.1 DD or DTS from dvds...

but maybe for convenience sake...used the proper coloured cables...but it's not necessary...try all these out and you'll soon realize that in the world of AV / Hifi - there's too much of marketing hypes only in the form of Monsters and other creatures...hehe...when most of the products are actually the same

actually we can just go to Pasar Road...bnuy a bulk of decent audio quality coaxial cables and make our own cables for both audio and video..to make it look good label the RCA cablesproperly with different colour...don't need to 'follow' the rules...heck, the colours can be in pink or grey if you prefer them...as long as they work properly and you know what goes where...who cares about colours... smile.gif

just haven't tried using wire hanger for digital audio...coz a bit confused on how to terminate the ends...lol! tongue.gif

I was sleepy when I posted that and I took Wikipedia too seriously, sorry. You're right.

I'm currently using yellow-red-white cable for component and another red-white only cable for sound from b.yond to VGA box. Works fine. But then, when the output is only 576i, hard to tell any difference.

Normal RCA coax should be fine. I used one from my DVD player to a SoundBlaster Extigy.

You can still call Astro CS and bising to them. I think they're open on Saturday.

These people probably too lonely in call center. That's why screw things up so people will call them and give them company lol.
