QUOTE(jchong @ Aug 18 2010, 05:58 PM) Interesting why the 1008 would be brutal with the bass. Especially after you ran Audyssey. Checked with SPL meter right after Audyssey. Did you check with your SPL meter on the channel level for the sub? Was it at 75 dB? I suspect sometimes due to the mic or the Audyssey implementation in each AVR, the resulting setting can differ by a few dB. For all you know the sub level could be set a bit 'hot' (without you knowing) and makes the bass seem brutal. I thought it is Onkyo's characteristic, which it is quite renowned. Denon is more balance. 1008 makes me feel like in a cinema since everything seems larger than life while 4310 makes you feel at home, in this case home theater. The vocal is quite expansive than 4310, which I do not quite fancy. I prefer vocal to be tighter. The 'pow wow' of Onkyo makes movie watching quite suspenseful. I am thinking of getting one for the showroom in near future since a lot of ppl prefers dynamic and punchy sound. It would have to wait for now as I am in the search for a pre/power for hi-fi. QUOTE I know what can beat that... 2 Ultras!! tongue.gif And I know one fellow avid HT hobbyist here that will have 2 PB13-Ultras by early Sept. A month or 2 down the road, there will be another member here having a new SB13-Plus with probably new PB13-Ultra. Speaking of which, dual subs kakis seem to be on the rise This post has been edited by htkaki: Aug 18 2010, 09:20 PM |

Their AVRs are also quite feature packed for the money. QUOTE Speaking of which, dual subs kakis seem to be on the rise More business for u |

Speaking of which, dual subs kakis seem to be on the rise 2 subs is the way to go, for sure. Also, this is one thing. So far, I hv heard the following subs, eD a7s-650, Rythmik F15, Seaton Submersive, SB13U, PB13U, PC12, Dali IkonSub, Sunfire, Velo DD12, Velo CHT series and some others. There is nothing that I know that comes close to the the max SPL of PB13U for movies except the Seaton (but it sounds different). The sealed subs, get as loud and work very well for music, but for movies that port build up sound and the sheer raw power of the PB13U are very difficult to beat. Get a pair with an AS-EQ1, u shd be in bass heaven... |

QUOTE(htkaki @ Aug 18 2010, 01:32 PM) Nothing beats an Ultra for the sheer ULF. I know what sub can beat the ULF of Ultra. JTR Orbit Shifter or eD A7-900. Both sub are pure SPL beast. The size also too big for average HT room. Totally no WAF. Bryan have 2x PB12-Plus and a SPL-1200Ultra in a room. He told me that it still not able to match the downright ULF of Ultra. In terms of output, 2x 12-Plus might be higher than a single Ultra. But, in terms of bass quality, still Ultra has an edge. |

if you use both, you'll gain 6dB from it. Hence, you need not crank the sub's gain that high. I am doing that for my 13-Ultra

At 12 o'clock on the sub gain, my AVR trim is at -8dB after Audassey and it is still +5dB hot according to Anfieldude's SPL meter. Should I remove the Y-cable in this case, or just tune down the gain on the sub? |

I'll try to get the avr trim at 0, the sub sld be at abt near 10 o'clock or less. Should I remove the Y-cable in this case, or just tune down the gain on the sub? My current PB13-Ultra is at slightly above 9o'clock, 0 at avr level. Level checked, 74-75dB This post has been edited by htkaki: Aug 20 2010, 04:28 PM |
