QUOTE(Synco @ Aug 17 2010, 01:58 PM) Taukeh, what's the room size?I have Onkyo 1008 hooked up to my system now. It belongs to a customer who is building his HT room. I guess it would be the temporary resident amp for at least 2-3 weeks. For the first time, the PB13-Ultra and the rest of the system being connected to a singular unit. Tested WOTW and Dragon Tiger Gate. First impression... dynamic and brute power in bass. Seems to be fast and pumping adrenalin as compare to the balanced 4310. It makes the 4310 seems lazy. The openness and ambiance is very different. Importantly, the PB13-Ultra does not misbehave that badly. But, the pure power of bass signal from Onkyo is quite intimidating. Never expected WOTW to be so punishing to me. It really pushes the PB13-Ultra hard that the punches are literally hitting our bodies with brute force. Vol on Onkyo is 68.5 On DTG, it sounds more 'cinematic' and those punches are insane. Bass nuts would be grinning from ear to ear. Shall test it more. |

htkaki, so this Onkyo avr TX-NR1008 proves to be a serious contender for 4310 or might even out-perform the denon??
What about comparing in terms of sound details and its surround field? Do more test & I am eager to find out... |

Actually, difference characteristic. 4310 is more 'serene' and sounds cleaner. Thus, the separation of details is distinct. What about comparing in terms of sound details and its surround field? Do more test & I am eager to find out... Onkyo on the other hand is the brutal one with a lot 'wham bam' in its pocket. The vocal sounds larger and it seems to be energetic. The again, you'll find it overwhelming at time. Depending on personal preference. Judging by many customers that I have dealt it, I guess more than 65% will go for Onkyo's 'signature'. |

I think you can switch to the dB relative scale. In the testing you did above was that after running Audyssey? |

Ran Audyssey prior to testing since I want to know its potential. With Dyn EQ, it is quite unbearable when watching WOTW as the PB13-Ultra becomes 'aggressive' The bass overwhelm other details. Shaking everything in its path. With Dyn EQ off, it is much better with punchy bass that does not 'cloud' the the other channels. Since all of them have listened to the previous system with EQ1, they think that EQ1 does vast improvement in the sub management. |

Can change the volume to THX style i.e. those -18db thingy...
I have to reduce my PC12+ volume to around 8 o'clock compared to 9 o'clock previously during the Marantz time.... The surround performance of the Onkyo is a lot better than the Marantz and yes it's real fun watching movies, just need to proper calibrate the LFE so that it won't become overwhelming.... I've turn off Dynamic EQ and volume for all sources except for Astro...sound weird with those on for DVD/BD compared with my previous Marantz, I prefer this one for quite some margin only the music section that the Marantz is more life like but not by a big margin. |

He told me that it still not able to match the downright ULF of Ultra. In terms of output, 2x 12-Plus might be higher than a single Ultra. But, in terms of bass quality, still Ultra has an edge. |

Watched Rambo Extended Cut this morning. One of the best DTS-HD MA tracks so far for me since getting my SVS. The last 10 minutes of the movie is pure mayhem. At -20dB, I can feel the bass punches on my chest 14 feet away from my sub.

Best of all, you will get those 16Hz feeling that mpyw and the rest of 12-Plus gang are enjoying. |

Was it at 75 dB? I suspect sometimes due to the mic or the Audyssey implementation in each AVR, the resulting setting can differ by a few dB. For all you know the sub level could be set a bit 'hot' (without you knowing) and makes the bass seem brutal. |
