I agree with automan5891, Bank union will reject this so-called "proposal"... Unless government is forcing them to impose and I believe we will see many cards being canceled and best of all, the people who are running with debts will keep the cards...!

QUOTE(automan5891 @ Oct 23 2009, 09:03 PM) To be approved by Parliament not the banks, which 100% will happen. It's already approved. Obviously banks are not the approving authority to government budgets

Looks like I need to potong 4 of my cards...most banks give out Visa & Master at the same time even when you did not ask for the other.
CITI Asia - gone, RHB EVO - gone, HSBC both Visa & Master - Gone
Keep Direct acess CIMB - VISA & Master principal & supplimentary Keep Citi Choice - Visa
No choice that save RM 200 per year...Next Month potong potong

QUOTE(Syd G @ Oct 23 2009, 05:58 PM) Zzzz gonna cancel cards soon. Hopefully some banks will counter-offer with 'we'll rebate you rm50 for gomen charge' QUOTE(Eden @ Oct 23 2009, 06:11 PM) how about those credit card that is free for life without condition? can government charge us since there already have agreement between bank and us? "They" control the bank, thats mean bank control by bank negara, bank will not responsible on this because is "they" want to charge, not the bank extracharge RM50 adn RM25. By the way, I have 3 card in hands now, I want to terminate all but my mommy told me to keep one just in case. But I cannot cancel one credit card just because I have installment on the bank

Gosh! I am now in Changi Airport and receive this bad news!
It's time to really look into my CCs and consolidate them. I may reduce the number of CCs to 2 in December. Out of the 5 CCs I have right now, the first to be cut are SCB VI (seldom use it) and Amex Gold cc (not widely accepted, although I could get 5x points for groceries and petrol pruchases). 1 VISA and 1 MC are enough for me.

Obviously our 1PM wants to collect money from us, coz the taxes of alcohol and cigarette are already high, he needs to look for alternative , ended up credit card has been targeted.

You could probably just do with either or, I don't think there're actually places that accept on Visa or MC anymore, not that I've come across anyways QUOTE(HiT-AbLe @ Oct 23 2009, 10:16 PM) Obviously our 1PM wants to collect money from us, coz the taxes of alcohol and cigarette are already high, he needs to look for alternative , ended up credit card has been targeted. Don't think they're really doing this to collect money. They just want to prevent ppl from having to much exposure.

QUOTE(hye @ Oct 23 2009, 07:57 PM) .... You know I felt it was effective to curb unnecessary spending back then by people who live on credit. Those who pays in full was life as per usual. I'm not supporting Najib or anything but I think this is a good move by the govt. I mean look at the occasional post we have in this thread asking how to increase cc debt is crazy - questions like EZ installments, pay minimum every month, cash advance, etc. I was rather worried and I was always loud about it ... sigh BTW .... I'm not that old lah. There are no justification to claim that their purpose is so noble as to help reduce debts by cardholders as in reality those with debts will only find that it add on to their burden ie. akin to taking more $ from the beggar's bowl. If they would only stop wasting $ there would be no need to cover their arses with our hard earn money

Interesting on how this thread has suddenly 'liven' up.
Don't take the news negatively. Although I would admit that the public reacted negatively to this idea several years back when it was implemented, what was visible was how banks very going all out to make sure service levels were good. Customers suddenly became choosy coz they don't want to simply hold too many cards and banks have no choice but to make the customers happy all round. You have excellent CS, good products and attractive promotions abound.
And it was easier to do so back then coz you don't see people holding to an absurd amount of cards back then. Banks with bad cc products were quickly ignored by the public and the banks have no choice but to relook at their products and make it better.
One more thing ... we may the only country in this world doing this but seriously I have been to countries where credit card usage is just beyond control / living on credit. All it takes for the economy to go wrong and everyone's life just went topsy turvy - we should learn from that and avoid that scenario. Even at the expense of making a lot of people unhappy coz they have to cancel their credit cards.
Oh well ... I don't work for the banks. (Just a disclaimer)

in reference to the above, tinker meant 2010 btw @hye, gotta agree with you. Will take some getting used to of not having the number of cards I have now, but it'll be interesting to see how banks respond This post has been edited by ellimist: Oct 23 2009, 10:36 PM
