Yes..
FYI, for Jotun, there's no more ready-made 5Ltr paint with colors...Even the standard colors you find on the catalog have to be mixed with the multicolor machine and price depends on the color...
*
So u mean standard color and mix color cost the same price ? I saw Jotun got 5 lit paint while KCC paint mostly in big drum.

Just to share... I work in O&G industry, here they use Jotun for painting ship and offshore platform. If Jotun passed the stringent requirements set by these people, then it must be one high quality paint.

preperation+skim surface -- your wall finishing bad/ uneven?? ask them how the skim... touch up the bad finishing part or re-do with another skim coat to the whole internal wall.
redo the whole wall surface u need to paint a coat of sealer follow by two coat of paint, skim coat cost rm 0.8-1.2 psf include labour & material

hah.......... Jotun approached goben for their projects....

quality wise, not so convincing...

you should check Nippon Protective Coatings for offshore use....

which is more heavy duty than Jotun one

It depends on the color...some of the standard and mix colors cost the same price..
Colors like red, yellow and green cost the most...

IMO, Jotun is one of the best quality paint in protective coating paint let alone decorative paint..

hello all..

i've read all post of this thread from start to this page..!

all i can say.. i learnt a lot about paint..!

i'm about to embark on a painting project for my house..

it's a 2 and half storey.. and i need to touch up the paint on exterior and also a bit on the interior..

If we cannot get the exact match of what colour the original paint contractor use to paint the house.. , how can we guess?

I don't want to to re-paint the whole house.. just touch up here and there..

but all the white part.. definitely.. i will touch up..! maybe use maxilite..

feature wall - maybe use Jotun Strax - Olive colour.

question :

1. do we need to wash the surface that we want to repaint?

2. Can anybody share any website or blog on nice colour scheme?

I'm looking for inspiration colour.. and sample completed project that people might do to their house..!

2010 is about to come., we don't wanna stuck with 2008/2009 colour..

so.. i'm looking for inspiration..

got 1 interior designer.., want to charge me quite a bomb for colour sheme coordination services. decide not to use lah..! better put the money for other usage..!

thanks guys! especiall 'eric-trdcelica'.. smile.gif you really make my day! a lot of informative posting from you... and not forgettting other posting from other user..

It would be hard for you to guess the color..My advice would be korek a piece of the paint and bring it to any paint shop(preferably with multicolor machine) and ask them to match the nearest possible color for you..if you know which brand the previous contractor used, then it would be much easier for you to get back the color..
If you wanna touch up your exterior wall, probably the color will be different as the color will fade off after a year or even a few months..

FYI, Maxilite is a normal emulsion paint which after a few months, you'll find that your wall is chalky or powdery..

1. If you do not mind wasting a bit of your money and time, try ask someone to wash your exterior wall with a water-jet machine..It'll be better..
And you have wipe the wall until there's no grease or oil mark or whatever dirty things on it..

you'll save more if you can get 20L packing..

Approximately 1L can paint 10sqm...
Jotun Strax, try to press the fella to 80..As far as I'm concerned, RM80 is considered as cheap although there are some selling at lower prices than that..
Never buy the 18L RM70..If I'm not mistaken, it's Jotaplast and the market price is RM62..and some even sell lower than that..
If you wanna buy sealer, keep it mind that Jotun only offer 20L packing for sealer and 18L is the normal cheap emulsion paint for ceiling..
If you want sealer, ask them for either one below..
20L
1. Jotun Jotasealer 03(cheaper version of sealer..RSP: RM 140-160)
2. Jotun Jotasealer 07(adequate for int. and ext. wall..RSP: RM 170-190)
3. Jotun Basecoat Sealer(cheapest among sealer's range..only for interior..RSP: RM 90-120)
4. Jotun Cito Primer 09(most exp. among sealer..solvent based...int and ext..RSP: RM 300-340)
The min. prices given cannot be achieved by all the dealers but I believe that the max. prices can be achieved by all the dealers..
And there are also some of the dealers selling at a lower price..

I'll recommend you the Jotasealer 07..
But if you want the best, go for Cito Primer 09..
Cito Primer 09 can be thinned by around 10L of thinner..So, that means it'll turn out to be around 30L after thinning. This sealer can only be thinned using good quality thinner...Otherwise, the paint will turn to toufufah-like...
And Primer 09 helps you save some paint..
I've heard from a painter who told me he estimated to use around 5 cans of 5L paint but he ended up using 3 cans of 5L paint after applying the Cito Primer 09..

The sealer's function is to make the paint last longer. For instance, your exterior wall will last for 7 years with the application of sealer but your wall will only last for 4-5 years without the application of sealer. In other words, the sealer is the undercoat or primer for wall.
And also, the color retention on the wall will be better with sealer..

If you found out that there are moisture in the wall(patches of water mark), you'll need to apply sealer to prevent the moisture from escaping off the wall..another way is apply normal emulsion paint(cheap emulsion paint) ..I already explained this in the first few pages if I'm not mistaken..

i'm bout to start paint work on my tiny apartment next week...well actually not me who's painting but the reno contractor but they only providing the labour & i'm supplying the paints...

Went & spoke to a fren of mine who runs a hardware shop..he recommends me Mr. Paint Man..anyone with experience with this brand?according to him MPM is started with a bunch of experienced ex-nippon & dulux paint...dunno how true cos he always tend to exaggerate things...

Also he mentioned Jotun quality so so only..MPM is highly recommended taking into consideration its price vs quality...ICI Dulux is a very good paint but alot more pricier than MPM..

Second question, i'm cracking my head over the color schemes...i know i wanna use the persian khaki for my main & longest wall...with whites all over...now problem is the two main wall i.e. the wall behind both beds in both bedroom...dunno what color i shd apply...most furnitures will be in whites...including both bed frames..floor is laminated wood flooring but color is quite light not dark wood like color...

Any suggestions?

Hi,
thanks for this really good and informative link on paint as I have no knowledge on paint prior to this.

I'm planning to paint my 20x 70 (4 rooms, 4 baths) house and wondering how much would the cost be. As I will not be renovating the house, and just doing plain painting, I'll have to source directly from a painter.

1 painter quoted me (interior only) RM2.5k for Maxilite paint (including grills). He said that all paints are the same bla bla.. saying that it's all marketing gimmick the odourless etc..
Another painter gave me an indicative RM3k-RM4k for ICI Pentalite (interior only)..
Another friend said that labour for Indonesian worker would be RM500-Rm600 for the whole interior house.

1) Wondering if Maxilite paint would cost up to RM2k for the interior painting alone without labour costs?

2) How much paint (interior) would it require for a 20x70? if the following paints are used and averagely, how long will these paint last before I need to repaint again?

a) ICI Pentalite
b) ICI Pearl glo
c) JOTUN Strax Matt
d) KCC Koreton Ezy Clean
e) Sissons Super Siscolux
f) Nippon Odourless

Would it be cheaper if I buy my own paint and supply to the painter? Can anyone recommend a paint supplier in Klang with reasonable/cheap pricing?

3) Also, what type of paint would be suitable (As I have an infant in the house and plan to move in asap after the painting is done) I'm not too keen on the maxilite though as I read in this link that it's powdery.. shouldn't be good if i ihave children/infant in the house right (who could just scrape the wall.. and ingest it)?

4) Does anyone have any good painter contact for Klang?

5) Is there any other considerations that I should take into account before I engage a painter?

thanks!
