QUOTE(k_lilac @ Dec 6 2009, 09:08 PM) Thanks a lot for all the info here, trdcelica. A friend of mine has recommended me to use Par paint. What do you think about Par? One of my main reasons for using Satin Glo/ Pearl paint is because I have kids - pearl paint = easy to wipe and clean. Is this correct ? Does Jotun Strax Matt paint allow me to wipe the walls? thanks for your help! QUOTE(Chester @ Dec 7 2009, 12:20 AM) Don't know about Par, my house was painted with Joton strax & Jotun Majestic, for small stain, dirt, water colour, pencil can wipe but pencil, colour pencil, ball paint, marker pen sure CANNOT lar my little twins girl are good artist QUOTE I plan to DIY painting my new home also. for what type of paint to use, pls refer HEREMay i know what types of paint i need for 1) Interior wall 2) Plaster ceiling 3) Grill & gate 4) Exterior wall (those anti-heat?) For interior, i prefer those paints that water resistant so i can use water to clean in the future, and if possible odorless also Advisable all paint with 2-3 layers? Any other materials/tools that i need so can make the finishing better? Thanks got all info u want & DIY tips. NOT to promote the ici brand, you can always opt for the equivalent range of paint, ie premium interior paint: ici pearl glo vs jotun majestic vs nippon ??satin glo ici pentalite vs jotun strax vs murabond cheap interior paint : ici maxilite vs nippon matex vs jotaplast exterior paint : jotunshield vs ici weatherbond vs nippon weathershield my advice : always go for repute brand, avoid those kcc, pye, pasifc....... after all you will not save a lot & what u paid is what u get This post has been edited by skng03: Dec 8 2009, 12:03 AM |

QUOTE(ICDeadPeople @ Dec 23 2009, 08:54 AM) I got a quote for interior painting for my house more than RM8k. Its for preperation+skim surface (what is that?) and 2 layer coating. I was like WTF?!! i dont think it includes paint yet. preperation+skim surface -- your wall finishing bad/ uneven?? ask them how the skim... touch up the bad finishing part or re-do with another skim coat to the whole internal wall.redo the whole wall surface u need to paint a coat of sealer follow by two coat of paint, skim coat cost rm 0.8-1.2 psf include labour & material QUOTE(hazx_one @ Dec 23 2009, 10:58 AM) Just to share... I work in O&G industry, here they use Jotun for painting ship and offshore platform. If Jotun passed the stringent requirements set by these people, then it must be one high quality paint. different range of paint serve diff. applications, each brand have thier own strength IMO |

QUOTE(daryl.k @ Jan 6 2010, 01:31 PM) hi all, In proper way, it should be one coat of alkaline resistant sealer follow by two coat of pentaliteneed advise. my plaster ceiling work just completed two days ago. no paint yet. still waiting for it to dry up completely before start paint works. i'm getting mixed advises from different ppl so far...to paint ceiling with a) just Emulsion b) Emulsion + 2 coat top coat paint (i plan to use ICI Pentalite) c) 2 coat paint (ICI Pentalite) straight away they say any one will give similar result. but emulsion only, in layman term, is translated literally to 'dust-water' by contractor & hardware guy...sounds a bit bleak.... |

QUOTE( ) Now going OT a little bit but still related to paint...i'm planning to install laminated flooring for my floors...and when i spoke to the flooring contractor he recommends that flooring works goes in before final paint works...they scared walls will be scratched during their installation works.. My reno guy however tells me the painting works will be quite dirty...so scared will damage the flooring...also since thy will put in protective plastics before start paint works, they will need to remove it for flooring works then put it back again for final paint works... A little bit headache...the floor guy seems quite certain that his work will cause damages to walls. Anyone with experience?mind share what is the best way to go about it? QUOTE(trdcelica @ Jan 7 2010, 07:25 PM) Don't let those contractor bXXl SxxxT you, every one also want the easiest way to work. ask the painter to paint the sealer & 1st coat of finish coat first, then ask the flooring guy to proceed & protect, last is the painter paint the final coat. the flooring guy come back to fix the skirting. each of them take half of the risk of course you have to warn the flooring guy not to chin chai chin chai damage your wall lar, minor scratches shouldn't be any problem for the painter. on the other hand, tell the painter to be carefull on the finish floor, else they may pour whole drum of paint on the floor......
