i'm bout to start paint work on my tiny apartment next week...well actually not me who's painting but the reno contractor but they only providing the labour & i'm supplying the paints...
Went & spoke to a fren of mine who runs a hardware shop..he recommends me Mr. Paint Man..anyone with experience with this brand?according to him MPM is started with a bunch of experienced ex-nippon & dulux paint...dunno how true cos he always tend to exaggerate things...
Also he mentioned Jotun quality so so only..MPM is highly recommended taking into consideration its price vs quality...ICI Dulux is a very good paint but alot more pricier than MPM..
Second question, i'm cracking my head over the color schemes...i know i wanna use the persian khaki for my main & longest wall...with whites all over...now problem is the two main wall i.e. the wall behind both beds in both bedroom...dunno what color i shd apply...most furnitures will be in whites...including both bed frames..floor is laminated wood flooring but color is quite light not dark wood like color...
Any suggestions?
Well, if he says Jotun is just so so quality, then ask him is it MPM is the best quality paint around town? Yes, practically every person working in MPM is experienced and almost all also from ICI Dulux before moving to MPM because even the boss of this company is the one previously working in in ICI Dulux as the National Decorative Manager who retired a few year backs before starting MPM.
There are a few ways to determine whether MPM is better than Jotun or even KCC, Colourland and others.
Firstly, MPM is made by PAR Kansai Paint. You can ask him to show you the can and look at the back where they will write manufactured by whosoever..
Secondly, it is only 4.5L which means less 10% from those 5L.
Thirdly, if MPM's paint is made by PAR Kansai, the paint will be second grade paint. It's very simple. If you are the boss of PAR Kansai and MPM approach you to ask you to make the paint for them, will you give them the first grade paint? If you give them the first grade paint, then how are you going to survive in the market when MPM's marketing strategy is much better than yours? So, you'll automatically give MPM the 2nd grade paint. Am I not right?
And furthermore, PAR Kansai Paint has their own second grade paint called the Goody Paint selling at a much lower price than MPM's..
A few months back, those Kansai Paint's men came out and said that why are the people buying MPM when their Goody has the same quality at a lower price. Now, MPM is in the midst of setting up their own factory.
And also price vs quality..
Ask your friend how much is the MPM selling and compare to others 5L. Add 10% of the price and see if MPM paint is really cheap. And the quality, ask him how good is it..
Ask him to show you some color books(not those catalogue but the color books that show you pictures). Maybe that will give you inspiration.
Personally, I would like the feature wall(the wall behind your bed) to be in a slightly darker colour than the rest of the walls in the room.

Hi,
thanks for this really good and informative link on paint as I have no knowledge on paint prior to this.
I'm planning to paint my 20x 70 (4 rooms, 4 baths) house and wondering how much would the cost be. As I will not be renovating the house, and just doing plain painting, I'll have to source directly from a painter.
1 painter quoted me (interior only) RM2.5k for Maxilite paint (including grills). He said that all paints are the same bla bla.. saying that it's all marketing gimmick the odourless etc..
Another painter gave me an indicative RM3k-RM4k for ICI Pentalite (interior only)..
Another friend said that labour for Indonesian worker would be RM500-Rm600 for the whole interior house.
1) Wondering if Maxilite paint would cost up to RM2k for the interior painting alone without labour costs?
2) How much paint (interior) would it require for a 20x70? if the following paints are used and averagely, how long will these paint last before I need to repaint again?
a) ICI Pentalite
b) ICI Pearl glo
c) JOTUN Strax Matt
d) KCC Koreton Ezy Clean
e) Sissons Super Siscolux
f) Nippon Odourless
Would it be cheaper if I buy my own paint and supply to the painter? Can anyone recommend a paint supplier in Klang with reasonable/cheap pricing?
3) Also, what type of paint would be suitable (As I have an infant in the house and plan to move in asap after the painting is done) I'm not too keen on the maxilite though as I read in this link that it's powdery.. shouldn't be good if i ihave children/infant in the house right (who could just scrape the wall.. and ingest it)?
4) Does anyone have any good painter contact for Klang?
5) Is there any other considerations that I should take into account before I engage a painter?
thanks!
1. Of course Maxilite won't. Calculate it yourself. An 18L Maxilite costs RM60-63. A 7L costs 30-33..
2. Depending on the conditions. These info can be found behind the can of paint.
It will be cheaper if you buy the paint yourself and hire some Indon painter to paint.
3. I'll suggest Sissons or Jotun. KCC has some sort of fragrance smell. Avoid it if you have infant and planned to move in asap. So far, Jotun ans Sissons don't seem to have any strong smell. You'll only smell it if you place your nose right in front of the paint.
4 and 5 tak boleh tolong. I'm not staying in KL.
