Elmi,

How was the camera performance in android 2.0? I read somewhere that 2.0 improve camera performance.

Did you manage to transfer file through bluetooth without third party software?

HTC tweet that HERO will be receiving update 2.1 early next year, so I suspect February 2010.

How about the keyboard ElmI? Earlier AOSP keyboard is much slower compared to MCR 3.0c +TCK 1.9p.

Typing on keyboard is fast and smooth when using in potrait mode, but when switch to lanscape mode, you can feel a bit lag when typing. But definitely better then the earlier AOSP 2.0.

Can't say much bout the camera performance coz rite now, the camera on the AOSP 2.0.1 is not fully working yet. When you take pic in 5MP mode, it will hang when saving the pic to sdcard. But when you switch to 3MP mode and below, it works perfect.

For bluetooth transfer function, i can't test it yet since i got no device to connect with. Will try later with friends phone. But afaik, the bluetooth file transfer is still not working yet with both the AOSP 2.0 and 2.0.1. I hope the dev on xda wll take a look at that. They got it working on Hero 2.1 ROM though. You can give it a try if u want. Remember to nandroid backup 1st in case of anything. smile.gif

1.No, there will be a slight delay between the 2.1 release and the out of the box availability. I don't think it will affect much as most people will flash their phones with custom and superior roms

2. Yes, HTC give out roms in the form of a RUU(rom update utility). Just connect, and run.

3. FAQ in the stickies would be a start

4. Not as good as apple's store but still they have some very cool apps that the App store doesn't have.

Thanks MaggieMee. It's embarrassing that I actually didn't notice the sticky thread. Guess I was too excited. Anyway, you did a good write up there. By the way, does the custom ROM improves video recording performance? The reviews I checked basically say that vid-recording on the Hero is hopeless :S

We're gonna running out of compatible apps soon on Hero as most of the apps are now moves to 1.6 and above, HTC made a bad decision to skip 1.6 and 2.1 release date is still unknown.

I just moved to Modaco 3.0.

I find that previously associated facebook accounts wouldn't show up, and my facebook friend list couldn't be downloaded. I can't re-attempt to link the facebook profile of my contact list again, it shows "Friends data is either downloading or unavailable"..

Solution to this problem, is to connect to 3G Mobile Internet rather than Wifi.

I connected my phone to Wifi for the whole night but it still failed, but
the facebook contacts get downloaded within a click after connected to the Mobile Internet.

Nope, I tried the update there, but it still doesn't get updated if I were connected to Wifi, and I dunno why it's ok with Mobile Internet.
Same thing goes to my plurk. It doesn't connect with Wifi.

have you tried the on screen keypad? i believe it works better than nokia 5800.

regarding the on screen qwerty... it works alot better when its in horizontal (you have to tilt the phone 90 degree). yes... i think iphone's qwerty works better.. probably because of the larger screen.

you'll eventually find out your own way to type smoothly using hero after some practice, I myself prefer to type 'vertically' using my thumb

even if you pressed on the wrong characters, as long as your finger isn't too far away from the right characters, hero would suggest you some words based on the 'pattern' of what you've pressed.

So hows the performance of the hero after a pro longed use?

I heard that its abit sluggish since the hardware spec cant keep up with HTC sense UI which eats up alot of processing power on the current platform.

Btw hows the battery life on this thing?

for the stock android, i think the qwerty keyboard is just okay. but with modaco 3.0 the qwerty is excellent even in portrait mode.

btw, i just turn off all the predictive text and just type manually and for me i think its the fastest way for typing. predictive text just distracts and confuse me.

Landscape mode is much more comfortable to type and the prediction is very useful as i don't have to worry punching the wrong key, most of the time it gave me the words i wanted.

moyl_finuda, change the sound at Messages' Settings instead of Settings > Sound & display.
