for the stock android, i think the qwerty keyboard is just okay. but with modaco 3.0 the qwerty is excellent even in portrait mode.
btw, i just turn off all the predictive text and just type manually and for me i think its the fastest way for typing. predictive text just distracts and confuse me. |

QUOTE(clivengu @ Dec 17 2009, 10:32 PM) *Android 1.6 donut is not official yet... therefore no Sense UI etc... bad bad...no good for me android 1.6 is called donut and it is official. but afaik, hero wont get a 1.6 update, but will jump to android 2.1 flan with sense ui. and i want to add something, AOSP is an acronym for android open source project. and yes Google is really my best friend.  |

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Dec 23 2009, 09:48 PM) Oh my yes... Finally I successfully made my own 'custom' ROM! care to share it LEVI? im interested in what have you put in it or removed from it.right now im using mcr 3.0 with teknologist 1.91. it is super smooth and fast. if your 'custom mcr' can be much more faster then it will be great. |

clivengu, before you delete all the duplicates, you should try this way,
in people, hit menu > view and select google only. unchecked others. i think all the duplicates will dissappear from view. for me, i back up my contacts in outlook. then i export the contacts to .csv file and import it in google. then for everytime i flash new roms, i just sync with google. i never save any contacts in my phone. |

afaik, the H means you're on HSDPA which is basically 3g. and yes if the 3g signal is too weak the phone will switch and use E, which is EDGE or G, GPRS.
now days its hard to find a pure 3g signal which is UMTS cos every telco is upgrading their 3G to HSDPA (3.5G). hope that helps. |

QUOTE(MarcoYee @ Jan 25 2010, 04:39 PM) need help here yes, thats the downside of installing custom/unofficial/leaked ROMs. something will not work because the ROM is not optimized for the hardware.today i just flash my Hero to 2.1 but after that i cant even use the built-in HTC clock and cant install any apk how can i fix this problem? you should always read the details of what worked and whats not working in the rom. if there is problem you can try other roms. btw, im using HERO2.1 community release 1.8 from here but use at ur own risk. hahaha |

if you buy a rooted second hand Hero, you can straight away update to MCR 3.1.
but the general rule is always do a nandroid backup before anything. save the backup file in your pc for safekeeping. you dont need to download everything there. just download the core file or core with chinese character support. i dont think you'll be needing Hebrew right? for enhanced, wavesecure or boot sounds, they are also optional. see here for info on MCR rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552591 for partitioning your SD card, this is required in MCR because you'll be using app2sd. |

yes you can download any .apk files, put it in your sdcard and install using file managers such as astro. given that you already checked the 'unknown sources' box in settings > applications
