Hi,

I'm new to Hero, which custom ROM considered the best for the time being?
appreciate to provide step by step for installing the ROM.

cheers.

Have you rooted your rom? The guide is upfront.

There is not much choice at the moment, since the kernal has only recently been released.

If you want to d/l a lot of apps, try Modaco rom, or if you want as vanilla as possible get the generic pre rooted rom.

Hi Nattan,

i've done nothing with the hero yet. no market etc.
i'm going through the forum for the rooting.

personally which rom that you used?
if you used modaco, do it needed to update the radio rom too?
do the contacts or saved data lost during the process?

cheers.

I first used the generic pre-rooted rom. But currently change to Modaco, since he has been doing a bit more with the kernel and speeding up the ROM. Other then that, because i prefer to have my roms running out of the memory card which cannot be done with a generic pre-rooted rom.

I still have not upgraded my radio, since i find that i get good signals with it, and some people especially in the UK prefer to use other radios since they claim that it has better connection.
I would say this is a matter of trial and error, if you find there is nothing wrong with the radio, then stay with it, if you find a problem then try changing.

My contacts are all synced with my google hence i don't worry much about it, but i did use MyBackup Pro to save my sms and call logs.

Hope that helps.

agree! backup is the most important part in trying of rooting + flashing rom.

Me also use google contact and after sign-in all are synced up.

Out of the blue question, is Celcom's HERO has Google Mail + Calendar + Contacts?

Yes, it is pretty much the same as any phone brought in by SiS. I know some others have asked before, the 16gb micro sd that came with the phone is only class 2. I turned it into a mini usb drive with a reader and bought a class 6 8gb for the phone. biggrin.gif

I'm wondering anyone has tryied to use his/her hero as a modem to connect to the internet??
I had tried mine but seems like it requires me to install a software to run it.
Anyone know about this? any solution for it? since I don hav any CD that come with the phone.

Install the HTC Sync from the MicroSD that come with your Hero then you will find the driver in C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86

after install htc sync, plug in the usb cable into your Hero. in the Hero, press 'menu' then 'Settings' then 'Wireless controls' then tick 'Mobile network sharing'.

Your PC will prompt for driver then get it from 'C:\Program Files\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86'

i think is some sort of bugs. try switch On Airplane mode then turn back to Normal Mode. or Switch Off/On your phone. then try connect to your mobile connection.

Modaco's rom does not include the APN's (instructions for the phone )required to connect to the network, you will need to set it manually, you may need to do it for mms too. Please refer to ur telco's website for more details.
