Since Saturday, I couldnt send out any SMS from my IPhone 3G. I could receive SMS. There's nothing wrong with my celcom3g account or my SIM card. I could send out SMS using another handphone (nokia) using the same SIM card.

I've tried using the method proposed by frozzbyte, but I was unsuccessful. rclxub.gif

Serious help needed! Tolong! sad.gif

Thanks.

Isn't this weird? I have to keep the 3G setting on if I want to make calls.... as soon as i turn it off the signal drops to "no service"...

Anyone else having this problem ???

What carrier are you using?

I'm on U Mobile. They are based on 3G (no 2G services) so if I turn off 3G, there will literally be NO SERVICE).

Just a suggestion under the circumstances that you're not able to rectify the SMS problem after consulting frozzbyte.

Do a Restore and set the iPhone as new. Then sync your contacts and try sending a SMS.

Backup before you proceed to restore.

Here it is:

Key that in the dialpad.

I typed in *5005*7672*+60193900000#, for Celcom. Message on screen, "Setting Succeeded. Service Center Address. No Address."....but it's not working.

iPhone Generation : 2G
Unlocked? (or Part Number): Not officially unlocked. Jailbreaked.
Current Firmware : 2.2.1
iTunes Version : 8.1.1
PC/MAC : PC
Jailbreaking software : QuickPwn
Problem Encountered : Cannot detect Maxis carrier
Steps Taken So Far : Tried the update ipcc method but doesn't seem to change anything. STill can't detect carrier.
Screenshot of Problem(if applicable) :
Other Information/Remarks : maxis postpaid sim card... does it matter if it's old or new simcard?

when i go 'settings' at my iphone, i can't even choose any carrier...the option doesn't exist at all...
i tried using my digi prepaid sim card and it works...is it due to maxis postpaid?

or is it due to my uncle's maxis postpaid simcard old type?

any hints?

it happen to me last time when i upgrade my iphone 3g to 3.0.

if it can work with other sim card, it's time to go to maxis center can change your sim card.

celcom 3g sim card will not work with iphone 2g. need to change to 128k sim card. but i'm not sure for maxis sim card. Did it work last time?

david,

I picked up this method from http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=1848634

Quote "I just tio this exact problem; sms are coming in but I can't reply to any of them, or send out new sms to new receipient.

I suspected the sms.db got permission error, as I restored my iPhone yesterday while some files (including the sms.db) were restored manually.

So I ssh into my iPhone and found the sms.db file (and the ~/Library/SMS/ folder) have Permission set at 644. (Read only)

So I change them to 666. (Read and Write)

Bang!

Problem resolved.

So... obviously the reason I can't send sms was because the db cannot be written to save the to-be-sent sms resulting in the error.

Obviously, and like a bro mentioned, deleting the sms.db file should do the trick too (except your old sms are gone) if you dunno how to change file permissions.

Hope that helps.

I did not have to fiddle with anything else. "
endQuote

What do you think of this procedure? What is "ssh"? How do I find that sms.db file? rclxub.gif

If your iPhone is Jb'ed, then proceed with the solution you found.

Refer to this thread on how to SSH: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=22057247

The sms.db is located @ var/Mobile/Library/SMS/SMS.db which is in your iPhone directory.

If you're on iPhone 3.0, the premission set for sms.db file is 777 or 755.

Wah no wonder I don't remember ... from 2008 woooo.

I don't know if that method still working or not and either the msg center number you entered for celcom is correct or not.

For the sms.db, what you can try is copy out the sms.db from /private/var/mobile/library/sms. Once you backup the file to your hard disk, delete the sms.db in your phone. Try sending a test sms to someone or to yourself. If you can get the reply, then replace back the old sms.db to the /private/var/mobile/library/sms. That should retain the permission and all.

Hi guys,

A few questions:

Is there a "sms delivery notification" on the iPhone 3G? Coming from Nokia i'm used to it but have not found it in the iPhone.

Is there a folder where i can save sms? Or is the list in "Messages" all i get?

How do i view more details/properties (e.g. date/time) for photos taken on the iPhone? And how do i know that it has been geotagged?

For SMS..Messages is all you get. You can backup your sms etc if you want using backup applications:

sifu david,
i only been able to use my i3G FW3.0 phone for few days due to my unexplain problems...
initially I copy my old i2G back up contact through tunnel suite & only visible after change to 777 or 755...

But since yesterday & today(1st time need to edit & add contacts) ... tried to add or edit contacts but seems the data not updated/save....
So i just direct us backup from i2G from itunes... & now i can edit the contact & been updated...

Do you face such prob?

shouldn't the underlined statement, suggest that it could be due to a network or SIM card issue?
