Just wondering, anyone else have registered for the upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7?
Have you received the confirmation email and get an order number? Did you face any problems when checking your order status online? Have you got the order number and shipment details?

I will put in some details of the upgrade for the benefit of everyone :-
Any OEM or standalone Windows Vista purchased after 26 JUNE 2009 will be entitled to register for an upgrade to Windows 7. All you need to do is register. When Windows 7 is released all that registered will be sent by post a Windows 7 upgrade kit containing a Windows 7 DVD. The upgrade is NOT FREE. You would have to pay using credit card a nominal shipping fee in USD depending on country. For shipment to Malaysia, the fee I paid was USD 18.76. If your purchase is:
Vista Home Premium - upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium
Vista Business - upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (many thanks to bro pap5)
Vista Ultimate - upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate

If you have purchased your laptop or PC with OEM Windows Vista pre-installed, please check your manufacturer's website to register. See below for a list of popular manufacturers & where to register:

erm,they just charge you the shipping fee?so the dvd its free of charge?

I want to know, is this an upgrade, i.e. from a clean format you have to install Vista first then run the Win7 upgrade

or is it an OEM offering of Win7 as an upgrade, i.e. you can install a fresh run of Win7 without requiring to install Vista first from a formatted harddrive.

yes according to the upgrade website a Windows 7 DVD is provided along with the authentication code
so yes a fresh install is allowed
also, for EU countries the DVD provided is for clean install ONLY, it is not an upgradeable from Windows Vista

actually we're just a nominal shipping fee at an subsidised cost....
if taken into account the courier fees from Msia to US, it's considered very very very cheap
USD 18.76 converted to RM at USD1-RM3.50 is only RM65.66
it's still way cheaper than getting a brand new one

The model i'm interested is ACER ASPIRE 5935, is a new high end lappy from acer n i tot it suppose come with windows 7 upgrade ... but the acer sales told me its not eligible for windows 7 upgrade.... just 2 selected model available ....

but just now i check from this forum link to Acer website for the eligible upgrade model ... this ACER ASPIRE 5935 is eligible for the windows 7 upgrade program....

Yes I think u would have to email the proof. Mentormedia Corp is a 3rd party company that's handling the Windows 7 upgrade so no worries about their identity.

IMHO your HP model has an earlier manufacturing date so the proof of purchase will have to be published in order for them to process the upgrade. HP has done a messy job here for not allowing u to directly change it at the website...

No worries bro all laptops purchased after June 26 with genuine Vista Home Premium or higher will be eligible for the upgrade. Standalone Vista OS purchase also applies.

bro first off, u won't be getting the DVD immediately. Most websites will state that they will ship out the DVD after October or after Windows 7 is officially launched. So be patient...

There will be 2 methods of upgrading to Windows 7, u can either perform an upgrade directly from Vista or a do a clean format and install. For European (EU) countries, they will only have the option for clean format and install

Yes when upgrading from Vista to 7 u can only upgrade to the respective Vista version
there should be a language version tab for u to select, by default most of the version we get here is English

Yes bro u can continue to use your current Vista and upgrade to 7 when it's shipped to your address
u will be getting a different CD key from Microsoft for Windows 7, and when u install the same Windows CD Key on another machine it's called *pira cy*
the CD Key is licensed to a single user only...

well the more economical way is to get yourself a copy of genuine Vista now and upgrade to Windows 7 later on
and chances are you won't need Professional because there's no point to switch back to Vista???
I'll recommend Windows 7 Ultimate for the XP virtualisation instead of Professional

Windows XP Mode (and Windows Virtual PC) is available for Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise and Professional. So there's no need to shell out extra money to buy the more expensive Windows 7 Ultimate.

from the pricelist that i'm seeing, vista business is cheaper than vista ultimate.

i'm asking because win7 professional are listed as US$299.99, which is RM1070
current vista business are going for under RM500. if win7 pro will be retailed at RM1k, then buying vista business are much cheaper. and not to mention you get xp downgrade rights.

RM500 gets you win7 pro, vista biz and xp pro

hmm if u're talking about Vista Business OEM then ask the retailer first before buying
I think the upgrade should be registered at the Windows 7 website but there are some batches of serial number that are produced before the qualifying date for upgrade
Microsoft could have barred it from getting the upgrade regardless of the date of purchase
I suggest the best way is to confirm with Microsoft first

I have just read from the official Windows 7 site that you are still required to show your proof of purchase eventhough the product code is valid. So there might be a chance that the upgrade is available for product codes released before June 29. But pls check with Microsoft Malaysia just to be sure

No you won't. You're required to show the proof of purchase because Microsoft will need to verify that you bought Windows Vista on or after June 29 (or whatever the date is). If not, why would they want a proof of purchase at all?

i jz bot my acer revo at 21-08-09 but i find out my acer revo manufacture date is 01-06-09 so i can upgrade my vista home prem to win7 ?

Of course you can as long as your proof of purchase (i.e. receipt) shows your date of purchase is 21/08. The manufacture date has nothing to do with the OS upgrade.

Selected model only, you can check online at Microsoft Malaysia, there are links to HP, Acer, Asus, etc. as well. But as far as I know, most if not all models comes with pre-installed Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate can get free upgrade. Check properly first before you make purchase if you haven't.

Microsoft will only ship out the upgrade DVD when Win7 is officially luanched, and they'll only charge on you when they ship. They are not suppose to take your money first and wait for the launching because if any hiccups they have to refund. But remember, I don't think they will ship out all upgrade disc on 22/10. The actual shipment date remains unknown.

What I have in my mind is quite different. Redmond will sent the upgrade disc to local Microsoft office in each country, and on 22/10/2009, it'll be sent through courier. But that's my idea Probably it'll just remain an idea.

they will send u a mail as proof of purchase.... inside comes with all ur details, credits card info, name, address ... all from acer n microsoft ....

the shipping date is 5th of November 2009, that's what i've told after submit mine through www.windows7upgradeoption.com and btw i bought vista os, not the pre-installed vista in new pc/lappy

actually all models with an OEM Vista pre-installed will be eligible for the upgrade
it's just some latest models carry the sticker that says it's automatically eligible and some don't

and it's not totally free btw

although i don't know when the banks will release payment but still keeping my fingers crossed for a delivery status

Anyway, I'm editing my windows 7 upgrade profile. Setting my billing address is making me wanting to whack someone at dell. At address line 2, I can't put in my address! It keep saying "Invalid Billing Address Line 2". Then where the hell am I supposed to type my Jalan?

According to BenQ Msia website the only model eligible is only S42...

hi does anyone know how long it takes for them to verify and update the proof of purchase

i submitted the upgrade form online (via HP AP) last friday and emailed them the proof of purchse. Till today when i check the status it still says proof of purchase pending.

as a student, i din have credit card, my model is acer 4736G..haiz!

ya i've heard HP require u to provide them a proof of purchase that's a total pain in the arse
call them and talk to their manager to follow up your case, because chances are your email did not reach them/did not reach the correct person

for hp, the free upgrade is handled by this company mentormediacorp in sg.
i emailed them again, 2 days back to ask whether they received the proof of purchase i emailed them last week.

the auto-responder replied saying they will get back to me in 3 working days.
dont feel like calling all the way to sg for this, already this "free" upgrade i need to pay 19.99 usd, dont want to add more expense

actually for ASEAN countries the upgrade is handled by mentor media corp no matter the brand/model
