Just wondering, anyone else have registered for the upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7?
Have you received the confirmation email and get an order number? Did you face any problems when checking your order status online? Have you got the order number and shipment details?

I will put in some details of the upgrade for the benefit of everyone :-
Any OEM or standalone Windows Vista purchased after 26 JUNE 2009 will be entitled to register for an upgrade to Windows 7. All you need to do is register. When Windows 7 is released all that registered will be sent by post a Windows 7 upgrade kit containing a Windows 7 DVD. The upgrade is NOT FREE. You would have to pay using credit card a nominal shipping fee in USD depending on country. For shipment to Malaysia, the fee I paid was USD 18.76. If your purchase is:
Vista Home Premium - upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium
Vista Business - upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (many thanks to bro pap5)
Vista Ultimate - upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate

If you have purchased your laptop or PC with OEM Windows Vista pre-installed, please check your manufacturer's website to register. See below for a list of popular manufacturers & where to register:
Dell - https://win7.dell.com/
HP - http://welcome.hp.com/country/ap/en/mda/wi...rade/index.html
Acer - http://www.acer.com/windows7upgrade/
Gateway - http://www.gateway.com/windows7upgrade/index.php
Asus - http://event.asus.com/2009/windows7/
MSI - http://asia.msi.com/html/popup/win7/index.html
BenQ - only S42 eligible...

The upgrade is handled by Microsoft via Mentor Media Corp.

thanks for the heads up

QUOTE(JumperJump @ Jul 18 2009, 05:57 AM)
erm, they just charge you the shipping fee?so the dvd its free of charge?
*
technically yes, the DVD is free only shipping is paid for

QUOTE(mofonyx @ Jul 19 2009, 12:03 AM)
I want to know, is this an upgrade, i.e. from a clean format you have to install Vista first then run the Win7 upgrade

or is it an OEM offering of Win7 as an upgrade, i.e. you can install a fresh run of Win7 without requiring to install Vista first from a formatted harddrive.

Thanks
*
yes according to the upgrade website a Windows 7 DVD is provided along with the authentication code
so yes a fresh install is allowed
also, for EU countries the DVD provided is for clean install ONLY, it is not an upgradeable from Windows Vista

Wah, quite ex also... They should have a local programme for this.
*
actually we're just a nominal shipping fee at an subsidised cost....
if taken into account the courier fees from Msia to US, it's considered very very very cheap
USD 18.76 converted to RM at USD1-RM3.50 is only RM65.66
it's still way cheaper than getting a brand new one

*
bro if u bought a standalone Vista Business pack u might have to get the upgrade done via Microsoft website
here's the link -> https://om2.one.microsoft.com/opa/Validatio...ocaleCode=en-us

QUOTE(-Torrz @ Aug 1 2009, 12:13 PM)
well i have Vista Basic so I suppose I'll have to clean install everything. Better back up I guess....
*
Bro sorry to tell u Vista Basic is not eligible for the upgrade.....

QUOTE(Jojo @ Aug 5 2009, 01:50 PM)
Hi,

Need some advise here.
I just registered the Windows 7 upgrade from  Vista home premium.

I received the Order ID :Your Order ID is HP_xxxxxxxxxxxxx

and below have the statement:

We will ONLY ship the kit(s) to you upon receiving a valid Proof of Purchase - either a sales receipt, packing slip, or sales slip. If you are not eligible for the upgrade, the upgrade kit will not be shipped and no charges will be imposed. Please send your Proof of Purchase, together with this cover sheet to us via these few modes.

Email: HPWindows7OrderEnquiry@mentormediacorp.com
Fax: +65 6896 2377
Post: Mailing Address
Windows 7 Upgrade Option Program from HP
c/o Mentor Media Ltd
No.1 Bukit Batok Street 22
Unit 07-01, GRP Building
Singapore 659592

The proof of purchase must include the following information:

A clear description of the product.

The product's date of purchase.

An invoice or receipt number.

The product's price.

The reseller's contact information, and if possible, the reseller's company seal or logo.

The proof of purchase should also include the product's serial number (the reseller will normally list the serial numbers on their invoices).

Question.

Do I need to email to singapore office my receipts in order to prove?

Kindly advise?
*
Yes I think u would have to email the proof. Mentormedia Corp is a 3rd party company that's handling the Windows 7 upgrade so no worries about their identity.

IMHO your HP model has an earlier manufacturing date so the proof of purchase will have to be published in order for them to process the upgrade. HP has done a messy job here for not allowing u to directly change it at the website...

Going to get Acer 3810T at evening. Try to register Windows 7 upgrade later.

it should be quite straightforward since it's a new model with high possibility that the manufacturing date itself is already after 26 June.

Just ordered mine smile.gif

I think I should back up all my stuff before install win7

Window Vista will upgrade to Window 7 automatically or should I format my hardisk 1st for a clean copy?
*
bro first off, u won't be getting the DVD immediately. Most websites will state that they will ship out the DVD after October or after Windows 7 is officially launched. So be patient...

There will be 2 methods of upgrading to Windows 7, u can either perform an upgrade directly from Vista or a do a clean format and install. For European (EU) countries, they will only have the option for clean format and install

Hope that helps smile.gif

Thank, bro...

I choose to upgrade immediately without hesitate after I knew we need to pay USD99 for the upgrade after the offer period...

I wonder "ahem" Window 7 version can be use or not....or it same as Vista?

What does this mean?

"Several other restrictions for Windows 7 Upgrade Option are that the Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade must be of same language version and of same associated edition (e.g. Windows Vista Home Premium K edition to Windows 7 Home Premium K edition). 32-bit to 64-bit upgrade is not supported but allowed through clean install."

How to check the language version on my current vista home premium?
*
Yes when upgrading from Vista to 7 u can only upgrade to the respective Vista version
there should be a language version tab for u to select, by default most of the version we get here is English

QUOTE(onnying88 @ Aug 17 2009, 02:43 PM)
Can i continue use my current windows vista and install the new windows 7 from the cd i get later to my another laptop? Izzit both vista and 7 using the same cd key?
*
Yes bro u can continue to use your current Vista and upgrade to 7 when it's shipped to your address
u will be getting a different CD key from Microsoft for Windows 7, and when u install the same Windows CD Key on another machine it's called *pira cy*
the CD Key is licensed to a single user only...

Which mean i can continue use my vista in my laptop, and install the windows 7 to my desktop right?
What will happen to me or my vista and 7 if microsoft found that  i do so?
*
well the method u've mentioned is in theory breach of a single user only agreement
consequences are worst come to worse u'll see stars
rclxub.gif
lol not this one but the microsoft genuine software star will appear in your desktop saying u're a victim of piracy bla bla bla and provides u a link to buy their software

issit cheaper to buy windows 7 when it's available as a package,
or cheaper to buy a vista package now, only to get windows 7 when it's shipped?

i'm thinking of getting me windows 7 professional. any opinion?
*
well the more economical way is to get yourself a copy of genuine Vista now and upgrade to Windows 7 later on
and chances are you won't need Professional because there's no point to switch back to Vista???
I'll recommend Windows 7 Ultimate for the XP virtualisation instead of Professional
just my 2 cents

Windows XP Mode (and Windows Virtual PC) is available for Windows 7 Ultimate, Enterprise and Professional. So there's no need to shell out extra money to buy the more expensive Windows 7 Ultimate.
*
ya well but Vista Business is more expensive than Ultimate....

QUOTE(paskal @ Aug 20 2009, 08:19 PM)
are you sure about that?
from the pricelist that i'm seeing, vista business is cheaper than vista ultimate.

i'm asking because win7 professional are listed as US$299.99, which is RM1070
current vista business are going for under RM500. if win7 pro will be retailed at RM1k, then buying vista business are much cheaper. and not to mention you get xp downgrade rights.

RM500 gets you win7 pro, vista biz and xp pro biggrin.gif
*
hmm if u're talking about Vista Business OEM then ask the retailer first before buying
I think the upgrade should be registered at the Windows 7 website but there are some batches of serial number that are produced before the qualifying date for upgrade
Microsoft could have barred it from getting the upgrade regardless of the date of purchase
I suggest the best way is to confirm with Microsoft first
better safe than sorry

I have just read from the official Windows 7 site that you are still required to show your proof of purchase eventhough the product code is valid. So there might be a chance that the upgrade is available for product codes released before June 29. But pls check with Microsoft Malaysia just to be sure

yes sure u can upgrade

not sure whether acer has it but try it out

actually all models with an OEM Vista pre-installed will be eligible for the upgrade
it's just some latest models carry the sticker that says it's automatically eligible and some don't

and it's not totally free btw
u'll still need to pay a nominal shipping fees

Hello sordanny, I'm currently using HP TX 2. I followed your link to the HP upgrade site and all. But now I've got a problem, HP redirected me to this website: https://www.hpwindows7upgrade.arvato.com/no...ca/Endcustomer/ and now they require me to select a country. The countries available there are only the United States and Canada. Why is it? Hope that you can help me.

Added on October 8, 2009, 7:17 pmI've tried this link at Microsoft as well http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade.aspx

I've changed my country to Malaysia here and it lead me to a page which says "We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found."

I'm so stressed now. Any other fellow HP users that have upgraded can help?
*
bro sorry the link i have posted might have been only good for North America, thanks for informing and i've changed it at the first page.

Anyway from google i got this link that is for Asia Pacific. Your model is in the eligible list and after u click on order it will redirect u to the upgrade website by Mentor Media Pte Ltd Singapore -> https://ebiz3.mentormediacorp.com/HP_APACWi...Select_Lan.aspx

sorry for the previous error wink.gif
