I spend around RM50-60 each month with Value 50. I don't know if I should get an iPhone 3GS or not... I'm trying my best to spend as little cash as possible from the start, so getting the prepaid or iData 30 one, RM2490, is way out of hand. Hmm... Any idea what I should do?

@TuX,
If ur trying to spend as little cash then U shouldn't even be considering purchasing the i3GS tongue.gif

Ask urself if the free talk time (in terms of mins) is going to be sufficient for U to use. Bear in mind the iValue plans are more expensive in terms of call rates + SMS rates are separate charges.

Prefer U go for prepaid plan, if u wan totally no use any 3g data.
If u wan data, just go for Idata2.
IF neither suit your condition, second hand 3g not bad as well since all drop price like waterfall..

@ah1,
That's not a good enough solution for TuX because his existing call rate is oredi RM50-60 p/month so he's considered pretty average usage.

@TuX,
Do U know how much of that RM50-60 is for SMS and how is for calls?

no PAIN no GAIN. tongue.gif
from my point of view, ivalue 1 no much diffrent with valueplus 50 + idata 2.
but valueplus 50 gain more benefit ( subline free usage, included sms )

idata 2 got reduce phone price while idata 1 not.
Strongly advise not taking idata1.

@ah1,
You're absolutely right. The iValue plans can't beat the ValuePlus plans but ah well.... if people want the iPhone they've no choice but to sign up the iValue plans, at least that was the case in the past. At least now they've got a choice with the iData plans.

Act, the iData1 plan is sort off like an "outright" purchase for those holding post paid lines.

I was thinking of converting my postpaid to prepaid then buy the iphone 3GS at RM2490. with that i get free 500mb data for 12 months which is equivalent to RM600.

after 12 months i'll look at the current promotion available or switch back to postpaid or even change to another telco if its cheaper.

@azrilyp,
Yes that is possible but your call rates will be higher under the postpaid plan. SMS on the other hand is probably cheaper.

If U don't make a lot of calls, this is a pretty good option biggrin.gif + U keep urself open to swapping over to another telco as and when U wish biggrin.gif

@azrilyp,
RM40-50 is considered mediocre for me and if U think Ur going to be receiving more calls than calling out then the prepaid plan should be fine. Like I said, since ur getting the phone on an outright basis (no contract) U can always subscribe back to the VP plan if u think U need to.

Yes U should be able to keep your current number.

@ah1,
U know for a fact changing SIMs is not a solution! tongue.gif

The price for 2nd hand i3g still holds up very well considering that the product is over a year old. 2nd hand is still selling between RM1600-2000. Apple tends to keep their value well.

There is not much difference between i3g or i3gs. Only the speed bump is attractive, with nothing changed physically. I am using i3gs while my wife use i3g and nobody knows the difference.

try not to change to prepaid. The charges for your calls and sms is much more expensive. Stick with valueplus 50 plan. This RM50 per month include your call credit.

Get the ivalue50 1year contract. This allow you to buy the phone at RM2090 (16gb version). You also get 500mb of data usage. Yet still maintain RM50 per month if you don't call much.

If you change to prepaid, you will most probably end up paying more for the data alone.

Hey guys, thanks for your replies yesterday. I just read it. And it seems that prepaid fits me the best.

Has anyone here attempt to change postpaid to prepaid already ? I am thinking on whether should I apply for the change now, or during the 3gs collection day. Lol.

@wahkiz,
I believe a forummer suggested in the past to get it changed because it will take up to 2 days to effect the change.

Regarding postpaid vs prepaid, I was using RM100-130 on Digi Prepaid up until about 8 months ago when I changed to Digi50 postpaid which is RM50 a month. I've only gone over the RM50 once since then. My call patterns have not changed and most likely have increased incrementally since the change. So for me, postpaid is definitely cheaper.

Of course, this is only my experience. Call patterns are highly individualised so YMMV.

yes. with maxis postpaid plan for 10 yrs. just changed to prepaid only for 3GS purpose.
u better get it changed b4 collect phone. do u think they have time to layan u on launch day?
furthermore, the free 500mb takes time. U can only have free data after they register ur phone with ur prepaid acct, and then u will have a sms to inform u about the free 500mb. Only theeeeeen can u use the 500 mb.
Dont use b4! or they will charge u based on /kb until u pokkai.

Conversion is immediate. Go over counter, sign a form, they will give u prepaid card with complimentary 30sens in it. wait 10 mins, dial *100# to choose default language. activate by making first call to any maxis number.

u can then top up after 20 mins.

u can activate 365/ active10 etc. after 1 day.

Hope this is clear enough unsure.gif

@soonwai,
Call charges on prepaid's usually much higher than those offered on post paid basis hence I'm not surprised at the sudden decrease in bill.

Hence, our suggestion for those heavy usage callers to go with a post paid plan than to go with a prepaid plan

@viosowner,
Er.. the RM8.80 pack should come with RM4 credit inside the pack and not 30 sen!!! shocking.gif
