hey there brothers, can i know is there a difference in battery life using iphone with EDGE on and off (no data usage. just leaving the Edge on).
And I believe by default Edge is always ON unless you jailbreak it and use SBSetting to turn it off. Am I right?

Yes, you are correct. And your battery life would somehow decrease slighty faster if your edge is always on iinm.

Haha. And be sure to lower down the brightness level of the screen as well! And to turn off wifi when not in use.

QUOTE(fx2800 @ Oct 23 2009, 08:29 AM) will turning off the Auto Brightness help to save battery life? leave that on... Turning off Auto Brightness would make ur screen the same bright all the time, auto brightness adjusts ur screen brightness according to ur lighting conditions n make it less bright sometimes..

I would just leave less than half of the full bar of the brightness. The problem with auto is that when you're at sunny bright area, it will boost the brightness for you to view.

Guys, I found that the phone battery will only work in the way it should be after u play around with the charging cycle. (please refer back to page 19 for more information).
Mine seems back to the track now after few round of complete battery charging cycling. Longest life time were with 1 day 12hrs of standby with 7hrs of usage. And battery life left 20% before i plug for charging..
And testing again on last night, full charged on 100% and hanged on my home wireless network until this morning i wake up. Battery left 92%.

QUOTE(jimmylim85 @ Oct 23 2009, 01:45 PM) Bro, basically, your 7 hours of usage is mostly based on what? gaming or ipod? Hm.. Barely can rmb is 45mins of call (rmb this figure cause i did a fresh restore), around 2hours+ of gaming. Most of the time is on sms / Ping! / browsing, and my phone is hooked on wifi most the time when I'm in office. Basically what i done is turn off 3G & Bluetooth, no fetch mail, brightness on 30-35% with auto adjust. And i lock off my screen every time after i done with my phone, 1 mins auto off is too long for me. Pressing the ON/OFF button helps in this. P/s: Wander will heat cause the power lost? Cause my work place is quite cold environment and my phone is put on the table yet not in my pocket. This post has been edited by fylon: Oct 23 2009, 02:24 PM

hey all, i currently just got my new iphone 3gs 3.0 from maxis (unlocked). few days before i ran iphone without inserting a sim card, and everything was just fine (with push, notifications, alot of wifi usage, youtube and games), the battery last few days. till yesterday, i inserted a digi sim card as im gonna use it for permanent, the battery started to drain really badly and the phone was always warm which i could feel with skeleton rubber casing! so i decided to switch off all push, notifications and hardly used wifi, and still iphone battery drains even when the phone is on sleep! its like 10-15% battery gone in 20-30mins plus.. i even notice that when i charge iphone(with sim card) it gets really hot!!
PLEASE SAVE MY IPHONE ANYONE. any suggestions are welcomed and thankful!

nokia2003 thanks for ur feedback. but some people got even hotter after upgrading to os 3.1. im really worried, as i dont want to use any unofficial firmware to downgrade it latter if it gets worse. but thank you! i'll see if other give the same suggestions, then i'll try.
would restoring it to its factory setup solve it? not using backing up, but as 'new phone'
thanks!
Added on October 27, 2009, 12:00 amoh ya, forgot to ask. did it also solved ur battery draining problem?
thanks nokia2003

As for me, I would rather let the battery die off, or just as soon the battery would die off. Then only I would charge the iPhone.

QUOTE(Kernkraft400 @ Oct 27 2009, 06:08 PM) As for me, I would rather let the battery die off, or just as soon the battery would die off. Then only I would charge the iPhone. It has been documented that you do not wait until the battery fully depletes before charging. But like anything and everything, there are always 2 schools of thought. But the explanation is that the iPhone has, what, 4000 to 5000 charge cycles of life(I hope I am right). So, if you let the battery run dry and charge, it would be 1 charge cycle. But charging when there is still 'life' in the battery it gives you 'more' charge cycles as then it would not be a charge cycle, so to speak. However, it is advisable to let it fully deplete say once a month to calibrate the battery. The above sounds plausibe to me and that's why I aqm buying it. So, it is up to you.

Actually Apple mention it retain up to 80% battery even after 400 cycle charge. Anyway Iphone is using Lithium Polymer battery which is much more advance battery than normal lithium ion. I recalled the first phone to use this kind of battery is T28s. Because i used to slip one extra battery inside my wallet.

Because i used to slip one extra battery inside my wallet. You are right on both counts. But what I quoted was for one to maximize and prolong the battery life. Isn't it better to reach 400 cycles, say in 1 and half years rather than 1 year? And you brought back memory of the super slim T28s
