If youre concerned by the battery life of your iPhone there are a few things you can do to help it last longer:

* Run your battery down completely at least once a week and recharge it for at least 5 hours. A lot of people think you dont need to do this because the new iPhone uses a li-ion battery but apple claims it keeps the software calibrated and should result in a noticable improvement in battery life.

* Turn off 3G - making calls using 3G uses up more batter power compared to using EDGE.

* Turn off Bluetooth

* Turn Location Services off.

* Turn off PUSH email and set FETCH to 'less often'.
*
What is Location Service? is it important?

But it won't trigger the location service unless I open an app that requires it right? So if I leave it on won't have impact of battery life right?

Are you sure?
i have a 3GS for a week now, firmware 3.1 non-JB and all my setting are off (push, fetch, wifi,bt and etc), and my Aussie Telco only have 3G reception but will roam to non-3G telco automatically if no 3G reception.
100% charged at night, 8 hours standby 98% left in the morning.
You might want to put it in airplane mode when you sleep to isolate and investigate your problem.
Btw GPS really drain the battery, i went for a 20 mins walk to try out the GPS function to my supermarket, 8% gone. Really hardcore battery eater GPS+3G+Screen On+Compass orientation.

even safari browsing via 3G or Wifi is like pain in the @ $ $.... sweat.gif

I wonder how to play 3D games in Iphone when it suck battery badly... The only way is attach mophie juice pack (which is great cause it solve the speaker blocked by hands) or charging it via iphone dock cable.

hello guys, so i tried to charge to full battery and switch off the power and switch on again before i went to bed. i've done all settings i can to save the battery life(3g off, wireless off, push off, location service off, email checking to never, etc). this morning i checked, the battery dropped 5% when i was sleeping - -" (8hrs). i've updated to 3.1.2 as well. so i guess this is abnormal for 5% drain while standby?
*
I think is considered normal drain. But for me, after 8 hours more of idle sleep. Either is 100% or 99% only. Same setting as yours.

Bro, ya phone only consume 1% of power after 8hrs of idle? shocking.gif Ya idle / sleep mod means in air plane mode? Mine even in airplane mod, after 6hrs of idle (i was sleeping) the battery reading were drop 5% in compare wit the figure i checked before i went knock off. Urs is insane. Guess probably its time to play with the charging sequence of my phone battery in order to max out the battery life.
*
Is normal mode. Haven't use airplane mode before. Once or twice I will drain my battery to 5% before fully charge it. This is to maintain good service life of the battery.

When I on 3G today for GPS Service, my gosh my battery life drops tremendously. Is there any solution to this problem?
*
Attach battery pack like incase power slider, mophie juice pack or air version. That's the only solution. If play iPod music battery drain is low unlike browsing or gaming. When screen on, it drains.

Btw I'm on 3.01 firmware. Planning to upgrade to 3.12 soon. Hopefully it will ne stable cause my current firmware is very stable but I can't run buuuk

I found out that Location Service doesn't give an impact on battery life at all. I just turn it on and leave the phone on sleep mode for 8 hours, just drop 1%.

Guys, need some advise here. I had actually done full restore twice for my phone, but still i'm having battery hogged issue. sad.gif I was thinking should I send the phone back to Maxis and for warranty or not.

After a full charged, i was about use the phone for 5hrs (include game, surfing, call, sms, check mail). Standby idle for 18hrs.. Battery left 20%.. Is that consider normal? Had gotten my phone for 1 week, and I have to charge it everyday. doh.gif

My case were:

- 3G is off (on edge all the while, fakeAPN installed)
- Wifi only on when needed
- Ipod is totally untouched (0 song, & movie synced)
- Bluetooth is off all the time
- Push is off (only check my Ping! / email whenever i on wifi connection)

P/s: Just wander, anyone send their 3Gs for warranty before? How long were it takes? And anyone have 1 to 1 exchange on the spot before?
*
Thats pretty normal. Besides you're only able to use the phone around 3 to 5 hours in a single charge. No matter you're browsing or gaming because the screen size and brightness has taken its toll.

iPhone tends to runs hot during gaming or browsing. I wonder how's the heat going to last the battery lifetime.

Is advisable as what was told by Apple, discharge at least once a month not often.

leave that on... Turning off Auto Brightness would make ur screen the same bright all the time, auto brightness adjusts ur screen brightness according to ur lighting conditions n make it less bright sometimes..
*
I would just leave less than half of the full bar of the brightness. The problem with auto is that when you're at sunny bright area, it will boost the brightness for you to view.

Guys, I found that the phone battery will only work in the way it should be after u play around with the charging cycle. (please refer back to page 19 for more information).

Mine seems back to the track now after few round of complete battery charging cycling. Longest life time were with 1 day 12hrs of standby with 7hrs of usage. And battery life left 20% before i plug for charging..

And testing again on last night, full charged on 100% and hanged on my home wireless network until this morning i wake up. Battery left 92%.
*
Bro, basically, your 7 hours of usage is mostly based on what? gaming or ipod?

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Oct 27 2009, 10:14 PM)
It has been documented that you do not wait until the battery fully depletes before charging. But like anything and everything, there are always 2 schools of thought. But the explanation is that the iPhone has, what, 4000 to 5000 charge cycles of life(I hope I am right). So, if you let the battery run dry and charge, it would be 1 charge cycle. But charging when there is still 'life' in the battery it gives you 'more' charge cycles as then it would not be a charge cycle, so to speak. However, it is advisable to let it fully deplete say once a month to calibrate the battery.

The above sounds plausibe to me and that's why I aqm buying it. So, it is up to you.
*
Actually Apple mention it retain up to 80% battery even after 400 cycle charge.

Anyway Iphone is using Lithium Polymer battery which is much more advance battery than normal lithium ion.

I recalled the first phone to use this kind of battery is T28s. Because i used to slip one extra battery inside my wallet.

hi what u mean is external battery pack??cn share wit it??
*
External battery pack means it's a built in rechargeable battery charger.
There is two type of charger. It's either slide in or plug in type.
Myself is using mophie juice pack with 1800maH which extends at least a day and a half.

It would nice to find Richard solo 1800 for sale in Malaysia.

Just updated to FW 3.13

Going to test how long it can last between a fresh full charged with my 3G on.

I'm starting to get lazy switching on and off the 3G. Just let the 3G on.

may i know if the external battery pack like the energizer xpal, kingmax or the OEM one (no brand) is any good? does it damage the set/internal battery?

any user experience?

mOPHIE jUICE pack 1800mAH is great. Able to get you almost two full charge whenever your phone drops to 20%.

Compared with AiGO just 1500mAH

AiGo 1500mAH battery pack RM 250

Kingmax 1500mAH battery pack RM 240
