That was quite bad ... When they launched the 3GS promoting the better battery life i expect it to be better then the Iphone 2G.. my previous Iphone 2G battery can last me 4 days standby with mild usage ...

But then again, 2G does not have the features and functions of the 3GS. So, 'poorer' battery life is to be expected.

Update:

I found that if the signal is stronger, the battery life improves dramatically. I switched out my sim card today to a different carrier and my battery life was back to normal.
*
It is plausible because the phone does not have to 'exert' to maintain connection and thus conserve some energy although I might add that the difference should not be as dramatic as you described it to be.

sorry off topic.
but to me this 3g is really battery killer. when i use my non-iphone phone with 3g on all the time, used to get only 2 days before charge. but without 3g, i mean only gsm, i can get 3 days.

That's like comparing the petrol consumption of a Proton with BMW.

Hey guys, what do you think of my battery usage? Is this normal?

From 100% charge, after 7hrs 44 mins of standby and 4hrs 31 mins of usage turned (on wifi to access Mafia Wars for a while and to played a few games of TTR3 .. 3G was on for a couple of hours since disconnected from charge.. listening to MP3), the battery is now 67%.
*
I believe it is. If it is not normal, it is on the side of good.

As for me, I would rather let the battery die off, or just as soon the battery would die off. Then only I would charge the iPhone.
*
It has been documented that you do not wait until the battery fully depletes before charging. But like anything and everything, there are always 2 schools of thought. But the explanation is that the iPhone has, what, 4000 to 5000 charge cycles of life(I hope I am right). So, if you let the battery run dry and charge, it would be 1 charge cycle. But charging when there is still 'life' in the battery it gives you 'more' charge cycles as then it would not be a charge cycle, so to speak. However, it is advisable to let it fully deplete say once a month to calibrate the battery.

The above sounds plausibe to me and that's why I aqm buying it. So, it is up to you.

Actually Apple mention it retain up to 80% battery even after 400 cycle charge.

Anyway Iphone is using Lithium Polymer battery which is much more advance battery than normal lithium ion.

I recalled the first phone to use this kind of battery is T28s. Because i used to slip one extra battery inside my wallet.
*
You are right on both counts.

But what I quoted was for one to maximize and prolong the battery life. Isn't it better to reach 400 cycles, say in 1 and half years rather than 1 year? And you brought back memory of the super slim T28s thumbup.gif

some of my fren said iphone battery need to keep charging so that the battery only will perform better,  when getting low only charge will hurt the battery.

Mine was showing a big decrease in battery 2 days ago after playing pocket god. It was fully drained over the nite. From then on the battery percentage goes up and down like a rocket say for instance from 45% straight to 35%. I wanted to restore using itunes but there is a need to upgrade it to 3.1.2 version. I am currently in 3.01 JB and i dont wan to upgrade fearing that i cant JB it again and also that my baseband will be upgraded as well. I tried push off, 3g off, blutooth off, edge off, all processes off in sbsettings, brightness 40%. Did a reset as well. Now batttery still charrges and used up like a rocket....ie going up and down fast!!
*
When you access iTunes and it prompts you to upgrade to OS3.1.2, you can just ignore by cancelling the prompt. You can then go ahead and restore your phone, if you so wish and it will remain at your present OS.

after having my phone for 2 days i already did 2 charges (tht doesn't include the charging when i connect my phone to pc for syncing)

i jz drained my phone ytd and let it charge for 4 hours and reboot it,but batt life doesn't seem to be any better

overall usage include fb and msn using 3g,sms-es,few calls, heavy gaming ytd nite (testing),and music using headset

most obvious batt drain i notice is during usage of 3g (browsing or app usage),and music listening.i wake the screen like evry 10/15 min and notice a 1% drop
*
Generally all phones and iPhones are no exception the battery life improves with usage. So, use it a little longer and it should be better.

whoa...
what other choice do we have instead to send it to them while it still under warranty...
no luck with mine either, eventhough i've used recovery mode/reset/...
charging like 1% every 15-30mins
i'm gonna call them tomorrow, look if there's any luck...
*
Call them? No, go to any of their centres and submit your iPhone in for warranty claim. A reminder for you to restore your phone if it had been jailbroken otherwise the warranty will be null and void.

it would be better if you can bring the warranty card and if you are not the owner is much better bring along the right owner...
*
@munky_head_7

If it is too difficult to bring the original owner, just make sure you have his/her details and contact no. That should also do as Maxis just wants to verify from him/her some information.

I know this is going out of topic, but have any of you fellows noticed that your home button on your phone is getting less sensitive? I have used mine for like.. 6 months and the button is starting to feel not as sensitive as it used to be. The second thing is that my it says no sim card and i would need to take out and put back my sim in my phone... weird..
*
The Home Button thingy is what you call wear and tear. Yes, it does happen especially for those who press it every so often.

As for the Sim Card 'contact', it may be a hardware problem and perhaps you should use this as a reason to send your phone in for warranty claim. Who knows? You just might get a replacement and all your problems would be solved. rclxms.gif

thanks for the help regarding my iphone.

@peell
might do the trade in for warranty bro, but i am using the old bootrom version of the 3gs. Sad lah, if they one on one replace, mati lah if i get a new 3gs with a new bootrom sad.gif

You will probably get a refurbished unit which means it could well be with the old bootrom.
