If you download without pay, then it is illegal. Apple don't "leak" their files, when they deserve to get paid for their hardwork. The typical mindset of Malaysians of " if it is out there for download it must be free" is still pervasive I see. Apple's 3.0 software is explicitly tagged as purchased for USD9.99, so if anyone gets it for other than that, you know what you're dealing with. And trust me, some of us are watching your posts intently profiling you to see if you're an "accidental/unintentional" pirate or a fullblown "hardy har har" one-eyed pegleg with no law-abiding sense whatsoever.

Good point there, stringfellow... I mean, come on guys, what is USD9.95 for an upgrade to make our existing iPod touches seem brand new? I agree about it being the ypical (and stupid) Malaysian mentality of going great lengths to get things for free shakehead.gif...

However, there are still loads of honest folk out there and this is proven by the desperate ones (including yours truly, lol biggrin.gif) going all out to open a Singapore iTunes account just to purchase the 3.0 OS, bravo! Wonder what's the delay with the Malaysian Store in releasing the 3.0 update though, Apple has not updated me on the status since I lodged my "complaint" with them last Friday... sad.gif

We should be thankful that Apple only priced the 3.0 firmware at 9.95 and not something like 19.95 or even 99.99! rclxms.gif

Yea i agree with you guys. The update is definitely worth the money, and yes, $9.95 shouldn't be a problem smile.gif

About lodging reports, i too lodged one. tongue.gif

*all these while i didnt realize the ipod bar...no wonder all ipod posts have gone*

i was lucky enough to download the 3.0 ipsw when it was leaked by Apple. i guess there's nothing illegal about that rite? i didnt hack or anything (i dont know how)

as for wifi and battery i didnt notice any difference. for bluetooth, cant test since i own the 1st gen touch. shake to shuffle is a nice touch smile.gif. i have no use for spotlight at the moment, given the amount of stuff i have on the ipod (very little). copy&paste works flawlessly.

safari does feel a lil bit faster....but still no flash sad.gif. other phones are going to have flash n AIR very soon now...

Apple DID 'leak' the OS 3.0
When you plugged your ipod touch into your computer, a message pop out with 3 options- cancel, download and install, download only. Just like how you upgrade iPhone OS 3.0
But this only happened for very short time, and Apple quickly fixed it. If you are lucky enough, you get it for free

Well, if that is the case, then consider this: is he honest enough not to let others take advantage of his luck by asking him to pass the firmware IPSW file to them so they can upgrade their iPod Touch for free, bypassing Apple? Im not trying to pass judgment on him, but when it comes to that situation, I hope he makes the right decision.

I dunno, could you really pass it up if it was free, honestly?
Kinda see it as an accidental "First 1000 customers free" sort of promotion =P

Hmmm, if that's the case, I heard from another iPod forum that many of their members also managed to download the 3.0 update for free... Must have been either a bug or some oversight on the part of Apple, since then, I have not heard of free downloads anymore...

Looks like Apple found out about this "anomaly" and decided to put a stop to it! laugh.gif

Set it to remind me later or something like that. Can't really remember.

Where to set? In the preferences. Cuz everytime after plugging it in and being shown the upgrade to 3.0. I will always have to click on remind me later.

Oh, so you want to permanently disable it so that it doesn't bug you whenever you plug in your iPod Touch? I don't know if that's possible mate. Sorry

That was only moment after Apple released OS 3.0, then Apple fixed it.

This also happened in OS 2.0, when OS 2.0 just released, ipod touch owner also can update for free if they are lucky enough.

That's why last time i said i didn't sleep whole night worth it

I think they created an option for that already. Just spotted a No Thanks button when I plugged in my iTouch. Wasn't there before this

post (partially) deleted as requested.

yes the 3.0 update was available for free, right there in the itunes ipod page, when it first came out. juz like then 2.0 first came out as well. i guess downloading that does not make it illegal since it's directly from apple. its not like i hacked into their database or anything. passing the firmware to other ppl is, of course, but im free of that (since everyone i know has the 2nd gen...i only downloaded the 1st gen ;p). is being honest meaning i need to pay for something i already own (i.e. didnt steal)?

and hey, i dont even jailbreak to download free apps. i might as well do that if i have that so called 'cheap' malaysian mentality.

After playing with 3.0 for a few days, I can say that the features are very nice.....BUT I'm not sure whether it's worth the USD10 asking price. I mean, at the end of the day it's still just your iPod and it still just plays music like it's intended to.

If I was an iPhone3G user and was asked to pay USD10, I'd gladly do it....because you get MMS and CopyPaste, both very essential for a smartphone. In the end it feels more of a mandatory upgrade just so that you can play the latest games/use the latest apps.

Maybe a USD300 upgrade to Touch 3rd Gen might satisfy me biggrin.gif

Well, you have the option to NOT to download. Wait it out, read the reviews and judge for yourself to see if it is worthwhile downloading for USD9.99. If it isn't, then don't update. Nobody is forcing anyone here. But if the game devs starts moving to 3.0 because of its other features like Peer-to-peer bluetooth gaming, then...........

Well, I already upgraded anyways. Don't wanna miss out on games that are compatible with 3.0 only. tongue.gif
