From the pictures of the socket seems like the Digital Audio output using Digital Coaxial instead of TOSLINK...so better make sure if you wanna fix it to your amp.

TS, where did you get the price? Asking because the price in the website:

https://shop.xtreamer.net

is €99.00 only. Shipping to Malaysia add €20. So €119.00 after convert to RM it's only RM590

To some people including me, this player is better than WDTV because its capability of playing various files eg: FLAC etc.

Well...everyday there is new technology that is better and cheaper (hehe...quality..I dunno)...so we embrace it...

Those that have WDTV if you are satisfied with it...well stick to it.
Or else there is always the garage sale thread smile.gif

Me, I personally love my sarotech media player except for some minor irritants...I'll wait for it to konk out before getting another player...after all, it plays all the mkv that I download smoothly (but mkv videorate must be less than 10,000kbps).

Yeah...true...how many times have you heard, that function like networking, wifi for media player are so hard to configure ppl. actually give up?...wht abt repairing it. Yeah...they also mention 95% mkv playability...sure?...some standard mkv files from popular bd-rippers still skips (for me I always avoid ESiR), what abt those humongous 30~40gb movie files?...then comes the never ending bugs!....well, members try to wait a little longer to see how things turn up..I'm sure if on paper and real life its true, lotsa ppl. are going to buy it and there will be lotsa reviews.

Different with WDTV:

This baby support network, plus it downmix DTS to stereo & DTS pass through HDMI cable.

It's feature almost same as Egreat EG-M34A.

Only problem I face with HTPC is TrueHD or DTS-MA is not possible unless you spend USD 200 on Xonar soundcard. Still waiting for ATI or Nvidia to release video card that can bitstream TrueHD and DTS-MA.

Bro, I mean if you want to bitstream TrueHD to your AVR, you need Xonar Soundcard. ATI can only decode into LPCM in 48khz, 16bit only when outputting TrueHD so it's not pure loseless.

I have received my unit yesterday.

The unit is small and shinny, but highly finger print attractive. The romote control is very responsive. Just did a short test on 720p and 1080p movies, all playing without any problem. i am using usb external hdd. To my surprise, rmvb also can be played with this little xtreamer.

Test the youtube, picasa, weather, stock etc internet utilities via wired network, all working fine. I hope they can include google earth in the further firmware.

the first -ve impression is the fan noise is a bit irritating when i set the fan speed to medium or high, as recommended by the manufacturer during playing of 720p/1080p movies.

I will install an internal hdd to test today. wireless network is a known problem and i will test it after the firmware update.

Thanks for the quick review, ape. Just ordered my unit this morning. Hopefully can get it before end of next week. They allowed me to include 2 x WiFi dongle for free. Let's see if they actually deliver 2 pcs. rclxms.gif

I wouldn't mind if someone is willing to share his content with me. I am new to HDD media player and therefore no content. nod.gif

I have been watching Blu Ray all this while and thought this will be a more economical option for movies which I don't intend to keep. thumbup.gif

for wired connection, 720p working fine, lagged for 10801p.

for wireless connection, i din try as it has been highlighted by other users it lagged even for 720p mkv.

anyway, there will be a firmware update in the couple of weeks to improve both wired and wireless network performance.

Looks favorable review. Might get this instead of popcornhour C-200. If it can play smoothly those Blu-ray MPEG2 file (around 40Mbps video) then it's a winner. Anyway, does bitstreaming TrueHD and DTS-MA work? I'm going to get one if it can play 1080p smoothly. Those other gen NMT take around 1 min to boot up so this is quite a hugh different.

Looks interesting. I have one more extra HDMI input on my receiver, this could be the candidate. Never owned an NMT before, but the Youtube capability might interest my wife. biggrin.gif

Ape, any pics of this in action? The menu, Youtube, etc.

Not taukeh or sifu, but yes, I'm a fan of physical disc media, and still is. This Xtreamer looks good on the specs and functions, with quite a reasonable price and so far the performance I read is promising. I'm thinking, why not, maybe now is the right time, and maybe this is the right product. biggrin.gif

Thanks for the quick review, ape. Just ordered my unit this morning. Hopefully can get it before end of next week. They allowed me to include 2 x WiFi dongle for free. Let's see if they actually deliver 2 pcs.  rclxms.gif
*
Received email from Xtreamer regarding the 2nd Wifi dongle. Too good to be true. They want to charge me EUR20 for it. So I cancelled the 2nd dongle. They also indicated that my unit will ship only on 1/8/2009! Still trying to clarify as probably they have ran out of stock. Grrr! vmad.gif

Just put in my order for Xtreamer. Free USB Wifi still valid until end of this month. Been thinking to get a NMT but 1st gen Syabas NMT had hold me back due to boot time and also delay in scrolling. Looks like this one boot up in 10 sec which is consider quite fast. Can forget about setting up ION pc for my second living hall.

Will try out rstp streaming from mediaportal tvserver once got it.

PS3 play mkv no need to convert. Just use PS3 media server which will do the mkv to ts conversion on the fly. Anyway, I prefer xtreamer as it can do HD audio bitistreaming.

On the Xtreamer....

Bro ape, did u get charged any tax or any problem with our Malaysian customs?? Afraid might get held by them which is gonna be cumbersome.

Xtreamer ya....so looking forward to it......its mainly for my dad coz I've lots of movies in my PC but he's not the kinda person to sit in front of a PC for movies and I'm not gonna take all the time to convert them to DVD for him....to this device fits in nicely...now he can watch all my movies when he comes visit me smile.gif

ps3mediaserver great... i'll give it a shot....can provide link??

guys...I saw some of u mention NAS...I am just using my PC to have 4 units of SATA HDD (500Gb each) to store all my medias and act as media server....what u guys use for NAS? Is it a stand alone unit with HDDs inside? What u guys can recommend? Do share some info coz I've been looking for something like a external case that I can put multiple (at least 4 units) HDDs and have a LAN connection or something to host my files.

Seems like the first review for Xtreamer is out. Those considering it for BDMV playback better hold back.

http://www.mpcclub.com/modules/Reviews/rev...ew_xtreamer.pdf

"We start off with problems using Blu-Ray backups. Off course, full blu-ray is not supported however we should have the ability to play the main movie in M2TS format.
We have been struggling quite a few times to get the movie started. What happened was selecting the m2ts starts loading however then stops leaving the loading splash animation on screen, locked up.
We have to try and start the M2TS file multiple times before it actually manages to load the movie."

And no mention if it can bitstream HD audio...

Well, every player has their pros & cons. If only they can come up with a player that satisfies everybody at a reasonble price, they will really have a winner there! Maybe the new Popcorn Hour can do that? I find the Xtreamer quite interesting because it can play 1080p MKV, 720p RMVB and it's open source so if they manage to survived in this competitive market they will be the player to watch for.

Yup, every player has pros & cons. So the cons for this player is non-working BDMV playback (hopefully new firmware can fix it) smile.gif

Now is a good buy. If you don't like it, you can resell it later without much loss as you got the wireless adapter free. So after Aug, the price would be around Euro 119 instead of Euro 99.

Nice ! thumbup.gif

Thanks for gathering the owner list...we should share our experiences when the units arrives.

Don't forget to inform in this thread the date you guys receive the units ya!! And post some first impressions...

I will be testing the 802.11N wifi in my home when the Xtreamer arrives. rclxm9.gif

My PS3 (in the living room) running WIFI is unable to get stable signal from my AP which is in a room upstairs. So media streaming is out...... sweat.gif

hope the xtreamer with the Type N wifi can get better coverage and bandwidth transfer flex.gif

I got the same problem like you. I'm using Homeplug AV now.

Hopefully can get a smooth streaming via power line. Will share the result later ya.

I understand the first batch with TNT was disaster. Now they plan to use UPS on 2nd batch shipment. Just wonder how long it will takes to arrive?

From the pictures of the socket seems like the Digital Audio output using Digital Coaxial instead of TOSLINK...so better make sure if you wanna fix it to your amp.

So, does it use Coaxial or Toslink .. can pls help to confirm ? TQ

Added on August 5, 2009, 10:49 pmWow. In 2 weeks time, Xtreamer will release new firmware, will include BD ISO support.

Too bad, I don't have any BD ISO files to try out at the moment. sad.gif

I have just tested it in their website - after you have created an account and chosen the main product at EU99, you can see that the wifi thing is still at "0" EU. That means if you have clocked it in, the total bill is still at 99EU

Not too sure on the tax.

One thing I am sure is so long as any item below RM500 is free of tax.

Our Xtreamer is over RM600 but on the other hand, its Electronics item which i think is tax free..so anyone can share their thought??

during the 1st batch delivery, it has been announced by the xtreamer admin.

but for 2nd and 3rd batch, they clarified that the eu country will be tax free. other countries depend on individual regulations.

for our country, it depends on luck actually. I din kena tax for this xtreamer.

my unit is supposed to be shipped on 11 Aug and it is now still awaiting fulfillment. I wrote to them on 11th and they said that they would ship it out very soon. I think this company has a long way to go if they truly want to be one of the strongest competitors - especially for a company that mainly sells products over the internet. Fortunately I still have my sigma chipset for movie watching

Audio pass through : DTS, Dolby Digital, DTS-HD MA, DTS-HD HR, Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital Plus

according to the above spec, even the streamer 1283 chip set can't decode DTS-HD/MA.. only can pass thro.. if you do get audio sound, that's the core DTS track, and not the HD track..

sorry need to ask a bit more :when you say pass through - it means you use an AVamp to decode and output the sound right - then will we still get HD audio if the amp is HDaudio capable?
but if we just connect the player directly to TV - even if the player is capable of decoding HD audio, the TV speaker can output such HD effect? or, should we say - if the TV can output sound - it is because the player could "downmix"? thanks

Added on August 19, 2009, 2:56 pmBy the way, I just noticed that on the xtreamer official site - the "offer till 1 Aug 09" is no longer there - instead, the price remains as EU99+EU0 for the player+ Antenna, guess this is the price range that is most acceptable by consumers (given the fact that they don't give HDMI cable)

For DTS-HD the HDMI must be HDMI 1.3 standard & connected to an AV amp so if you connect the player direct to TV HDMI, you'll only have stereo downmix, no HD effect or whatsoever!

Thanks a lot Adam for clearing that - if that's the case, what yangxi said "can't play DTSHD sound" is not entirely correct and misleading.

This statement is so confusing that it almost misled me into thinking that I have made a wrong decision to purchase Xtreamer.

What I have is a DTSHD enabled amp, even if Xtreamer cannot decode HD audio , as long as it can do a pass-through, my amp will take over the decoding work. Also, demanding HDaudio output is a strange requirement for those who directly connect this player to their TV because even if Xtreamer does decode HD audio I don't think TVs can produce HD sound effect, however, it is then important that Xtreamer must be able to downmix DTS so that TVs can produce sound.

Thanks again Adam for giving us a complete picture of who should be more concerned about whether Xtreamer can do a pass-through (for those with AV amps) and downmix (for those who connect the player directly with TV) , appreciated it! thumbup.gif

Thanks again Adam for giving us a complete picture of who should be more concerned about whether Xtreamer can do a pass-through (for those with AV amps) and downmix (for those who connect the player directly with TV) , appreciated it!  thumbup.gif

You are welcome, DTS-HD will need to connect the HDMI to AV AMP & then only connect the HDMI from AV AMP to TV. As for the xtreamer, you better read this first http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=...6e556e&start=10
Seems they really have problem with DTS-HD.

yup! read that before and constantly monitoring the progress but I remain hopeful as it is the potential that I see in this player (given that price-range). I happened to also own a HDX1000 - initially it could not even downmix DTX - just like WDTV, it has since upgraded its firmware just a month ago to fully support DTS - we can also choose "raw" output in the audio setting to let the Amp do the decoding. Since Xtreamer displays this capacibility (pass through) in their ads (I think European countries have a harder enforcement on false claims) I think that's only a matter of time that they will release a firmware update to realise it. biggrin.gif

IMO, they got great product and firmware support. But the screw up order fulfillment process & lousy customer service causing a great deal to their new brand image. I believe potential buyer will steer off for now and competitor will laughing until ...

There seems to be a worldwide delay of Realtek chips...hence the delays.

Even the Sigma chipset is low in supply thats why a lot of the media players (Dune, AC Ryan, Xtreamer) are delayed.

On the Xtreamer, delay is fine but at least specify the period of delay instead of keeping us in suspense duh.

in this industry when you dont' get the stocks like the IC.. it could be delayed another 4-8weeks.. unless you pay double just to buy it in open market...and then airfreight the finished goods to europe.. so it's pretty hard to estimate.. so as I said earlier, give it 1-2months it should pull through..

I haven't seen the refurn amount. But in the email I did ask for the full refund and the reply didn't say 10% deduction but claiming the order was cancelled and refund back the money to my credit card, that's all. Anyway, I'm done with Xtreamer...

Hi

I got mine yesterday and these are some of the issues I have:-

1. Internet streaming over wireless network very laggy. Do not know if it's router problem.

2. I don't have lcd tv, so play on my CRT TV. Sound quality quite poor, and lack bass. Worse still, when pause and resume play, the sound becomes echo like and distant. Need to pause and play a few times before sound returns to normal. Tried on a few file types and same problem.

Not sure if my set is defective, but need more feedback from other users.

Hi there buddy...did u update the firmware to the latest?? I read from Xtreamer forum that units will ship without the latest firmware and that we are to do the firmware update to enjoy the bugfix and additional features.

They ship using DHL ar? How much was the shipping cost?

Yup, now DHL use HK as their hub for this region. I usually get my package from US in less than 60 hours (don't let Tom Hanks see that, Fedex takes 87 hours from Memphis, Arizona to Moscow). laugh.gif

Tonight it will fly to Subang, arriving around 7.00am tomorrow, get ready for delivery around 9.30-10.00am. Of course, that if the customs likes you. tongue.gif

My FR:

1. Package arrived in very good condition. Kudos to Xtreamer for its good packaging.
2. Set up the unit, connected my ext. HDD and wah la, unit is up and running. rclxm9.gif
3. Setting up wireless connection was a breeze, nothing rocket science.
4. Navigating to its menu has some lag (you will feel it but not annoying). About the same feeling as navigating through the WDTV, albeit slightly faster.
5. Checked out some MKV and AVI movies. Worked superbly! icon_rolleyes.gif

The wait was definitely worth its while (so far) and looking forward to try out the new internet channels and the rest of the features. Too bad I don't have any MKV with HD audio. Will try to get hold of at least one and try it out. Must see whether it allows pass through to AVR for decoding. thumbup.gif

Apart from that, I think the unit is really neat looking, sleek and pretty good finish (sturdier than WDTV, IMHO). whistling.gif

Some interesting reading on Xtreamer

http://www.mpcclub.com/modules.php?name=Fo...t=22065&start=0

Also known "bricked" issues on some of the units other than "Fan" issues.

Nice n thanks for the FR. Hopefully mine comes in these two days.

Can comment a bit on the fan noise?? I read the fan from 2nd batch onwards was replaced...hope the noise is acceptable level now.

Also, did your unit routed (DHL) to Bangkok before arriving here?? Wondering why mine goes to Bangkok and is in BKK at this moment.

A bit more review...
After using the unit for some movies, personally I didn't notice the fan noise. I guess it was no issue for me. I have also dabbled with the internet feature on the unit. Pretty neat if you want to browse for YouTube, news, traliers, etc. on your TV screen. No real issue with streaming YouTube on it (I'm running only a G WiFi). I am also able to access all my home network devices (1 PC, 1 laptop, 1 MyBook World Edition) without any noticeable issue. Like this feature whereby I am able to view photos on the Xtreamer on my TV screen. Of course I have been enjoying this already on the PS3 and Xbox.

My kids absolutely liked it thoroughly as I have a fair bit of kids movies and TV series (mostly DVD quality though). Now just need to make sure that they don't spend too much time on the TV! hmm.gif

BTW, the firmware is the latest 1.0.2. I actually thought I had to update the firmware before I could use it.

All-in-all, I am happy with the Xtreamer.

BTW, yupio, my package was routed through DHL's HK hub. Surprised that yours landed in Bangkok. Hope you get yours very soon.

mine was originally from HK but routed to BKK and now its in Penang, en-route to my place...too bad I am in office now sad.gif Maybe because I m in north that's why its routed via BKK.

Anyway this is not important anymore since the unit is on its way to my place hehe.

I read that streaming up to 720p is ok but not 1080p for HD content. Not too sure if its been improved in FW 1.0.2 but it has to be in 802.11N and not G.

I will try it out when i got my unit in 802.11N. I hope I can reach my PC coz my router is at 3rd floor but my TV is in Gnd floor. I am having frequent disconnection with my notebook whether its in G mode or N mode. Not sure if its due to inteference from my wireless mouse or wireless home phone. mad.gif

Thanks for the suggestion, will try that out if the wifi fails.....wifi would be best if it connects ok.

btw, my PS3 placed in Gnd floor also cannot connect to my router....PS3 is G or B ?

Funny, based on your order number, it should have been shipped also....its in 2nd batch i think...based on your number. Might wanna check with Xtreamer.

I just got the xtreamer. For the noise, fan under medium is ok. You wouldn't hear the noise if you are more than 5 feet from the unit.

SMB sharing under Windows 7 had some problem. Need to do registry hack to access the share. Some of my 1080p mkv is not smooth through LAN. Suspect had to use NFS so will try out NFS server for windows.

As for TrueHD, currently not supported. Will give you invalid audio format. This is using either .TS or M2TS container.

Got my unit yesterday, went to DHL and collect from them since I was not around when they delivered.

First impressions :

Took a bit of time during startup, the rest of it (menu transition speed, movie load, etc.) are all pretty fast. No complaints on the speed.

Fan noise is tolerable although noticeable. High speed is loud. Low and medium is OK. My opinion is to leave it at low if there's no HDD inside. Medium if you have a HDD inside. 30 mins of operation (without the internal HDD) found the left side of the unit to be pretty warm. I would say the RTL chips would be pretty hot inside.

Picture files loaded swiftly, no delay even though loading 4272 x 2848 JPG avg. 3Mb per file. Slideshow is superb.

Music plays well but so far only managed to test MP3s

Video, tested AVIs, MKVs ( I only have those with built in subs ) HD and SD tested, all loaded and plays nicely, I m using 37" HD Ready LCD running at 720P. Playback is sharp especially the HD medias. Note that the Xtreamer menu interface is somewhat not sharp enough when running 720p resolution. I have a feeling the menu is designed at SD resolution so if u set any resolution higher than SD the menu would not be sharp. Any users with Full HD LCD TV can feedback on this??

All subs plays nicely, just that on one of the MKVs I tested, the subs appear briefly even though the conversation is long and the same text will appear go away reappear and go away when the conversation is long and the sub is like showing 2 lines. Its not out of sync but the length of time the sub displays does not follow the conversation. I hope you guys understand what I am saying rclxub.gif

802.11N wifi, I tested works flawlessly. I am happy to say that the range was great. I am running 802.11N, my router is in 3rd floor where my Xtreamer is at Gnd floor. I can stream internet CNN news without any bufferring at all. Connects to my PC which is also located at 3rd floor fine. Setting up was easy, uPnP works like a charm. All PCs / devices with uPnP support automatically detected and listed in the Xtreamer. Haven't tried HD content streaming from PC yet. Will test it out soon, maybe tonite. 802.11N really makes a diffference, my PS3 is unable to work with my router at all being in the same distance.

Lastly, the power LED in front of the Xtreamer is not Blue as seen on Xtreamer website. RED in stand-by and GREEN when operating. Its not bright at all which is good if you place your unit next to your TV.

Well, that's it for now. I m gonna get a 2.5" HDD for it this evening. Anyone knows whether it supports 500Gb? Or how much of capacity the unit supports?? hmm.gif

ar188, I didn't know they have this NAS thingy, would have bought it together when I got my Xtreamer, will pass for now citing shipment delay possibilities.

Further testing confirm that DTS-MA is working but TrueHD is not. Most MKV is working fine except 1 or 2 movies. No big deal. Overall the Xtreamer meet my expectation for the first release and hopefully TrueHD will be added in near future than I would rate it at 9/10. Boot up is around 20 secs which is much faster than older generation Sigma chip which could take up to a minute.

Something very strange ... my order still under Awaiting Fulfillment.

Suddenly this morning I got a call from DHL about 'something' to deliver to me. Will collect it later afternoon and my guess should be the Xtreamer kua (keep my fingers X)

If this is true, Xtreamer really scew up in the order fulfillment process..

Just setup the Xtreamer, still playing around.

No problem to play the mkv/m2ts/mpg on USB Pendrive. However, if using UPNP to access Dlink DNS-323 NAS (using LAN), Xtreamer cannot detect the mkv/m2ts file. Any idea why? For other files type (avi, mpg etc.) I can see it but all with 0 kb hmm.gif Seems like UPNP got some issues here.

Anyway, got work around using NET access (LAN via Homeplug). Walah, can detect all my files in the NAS rclxms.gif Tested some 1080P and 720P files, play smoothly. So, for those having problem using UPNP, I suggest to use NET access.

First impression, Fan noise is acceptable to me, hardly hear it. Boot up time very fast. Accessing/play NAS files very fast/smooth (compare to PS3). Very slim size, can squeeze in anywhere easily. So far it meets my expectation on the performance.

Next, will explore other goodies available on the Xtreamer. drool.gif

For those using media player with docking station...its best to get 2.5inch hardisk rather than 3.5inch...yeah I know it cost double and current capacity goes to 500GB only.
Here is the reason, I've got a few of those..2.5 ones are much hardier...3.5 are like glass....drop a bit...hardisk kong...thats why many ppl using the hardisk 'naked' have experience with dead 3.5inch hdd. A drop of 2inch will spoil the drive.
For those insist on 3.5inch better get a Server class hdd like Hitachi Ultrastar (SATA support) as they are hardy stuff....or use WD green drives and keep it in NAS.

Simple to say...3.5inch drives are not meant to be portable..unless its has a heavy duty casing which protect it from shocks.
If using it naked...better get 2.5inch drives.

I think by now their delivery period should have improved as they should have stocks now. Otherwise, if you were like batch #2 orders (which I was previleged to be in), you should get your unit between 1.5 - 2 months from the date of your order. whistling.gif

I just done a fan mod on the xtreamer. The original fan is faulty with grinding sound even on low fan mode. Lazy to send back for RMA. Cost to do the mod is RM 20 for 3.5" HDD cooler. Fan noise is very low and I can't hear it from 3 feet onwards. Fan set to high in the settings.

most of the time...it will play depending on file loaded...if its 16:9, 4:3 or some funny ratio...

So if you want to play 4:3 on a 16:9 TV without side black bars, use the TV remote control.

usually, for most widescreen TV....its not only 16:9 or 4:3...

There are so many selections for aspect to choose from the TV remote:
Auto- to fill up the screen
16:9
4:3
Just
14:9
Zoom 1,2,3

Take note, this may differ depending on your TV or Inputs.

Done setup NFS on Xtreamer & NAS. Before, some of the movie files stuttering during playback. Tested few problematic files just now and found very impressive result, no more stuttering. rclxms.gif Will test more files.

Not sure whether AC Ryan can support NFS, but NFS on Xtreamer really increases the streaming performance. thumbup.gif

thanks for quick reply but usb 2.0 got it's transfer rate limitation which i think will causes stuttering if i play high definition movie like bluray and never do well when u want to fast forwarding or skip to the middle of a movie. i know xtreamer itself support internal sata...but i just want to know is that possible to get it work with esata, so that i can save my cost to get a larger capacity 3.5inch ext-HD rather than a same price but half of the capacity.

Finally got my Xtreamer today. It only took 3 days ship from Hong Kong to Malaysia. The packaging look really nice but in the other hand, the weight and quality of remote control slightly disappointed me which look like a brandless remote control that can be found selling everywhere.

Xtreamer itself is excellent, small and high portability. The fan noise is not really bothering me.

I think they really have to put some hard work on the interface because it's really look "..." and the loading ugly green box in live streaming.

Unfortunately, I haven't check it out the stunning of HD movies because my hdmi cable still on its way >.<"

So far, i got good experience with my xtreamer.

congrats on your new toy hehe enjoy!!

I m gonna watch lots of medias during this festive break hehe thumbup.gif

By the way, everyone...is there anyone here getting the eTrayz?? Is it worth it to get?? I have been having this worry about keeping all my medias in my PC, one day one of my HDD is gonna fail and i will lose my precious anime collections. Been looking for external storage that has at least RAID 1.

I currently have :

HDD1 : 640Gb
HDD2 : 500Gb
HDD3 : 500Gb
HDD4 : 500Gb
HDD5 : 640Gb

Around 2.78TB all almost 90% full of Animes and 10% of Movies.

why do you wanna mirror it? all your smaller HDDs can store the backup files and keep in cabinet lor. thats sufficient redundancy I think..

hrm... hmm.gif

U've got a point there too. Its just that I m lazy to sync from time to time coz i still add in more medias from time to time....guess i wanna have a something that monitors and syncs automatically.

So u mean, I should get 2 x 1.5Tb HDDs to slot into my current tower casing tansfer all my current collection into these new HDDs and use them as live where I keep all my current HDDs as backups? Why i didnt think of that duh doh.gif

Thanks bro!!

kopi.. you got these MKVS?

anyway 4.1 should be the correct setting, those fellas who made the MKVs didn't encode them properly... so set it to the higher profile..

Just upgraded to 1.0.3. Still stutter when play high bitrate mkv and m2ts from network. Anyway, there is some improvement in movie playback. Now wait for ver 2.0 firmware which promise improve network throughput and finally High Def Audio bitstream. I'm using NFS by the way with Jumbo Frame enable.

You mean the Xtreamer still shutter when playing the scene is flock of birds flying in planet earth 1080p? that means there is no point for me to upgrade from my WDTV. So far my WDTV plays most 1080P mkv without much problem except those with many tiny objects or thing moving at once like the scene is flock of birds flying in planet earth 1080p.

I got my unit fine with DHL courier and no duties incurred. I don't think anyone in Malaysia got duties charged for their unit. Warranty wise, gotto report to xtreamer.net and obtain a RMA number should you need to do so. They will handle all shipping matters for a replacement unit and return of your trouble unit.

Hi

Anyone of you encounter stuttering on your lcd tv when you upscale a lower res file, say 720 to 1080p 60Hz? If I upscale to 1080i, it's ok.

I'm using the Panasonic TH-L37S10S lcd.

Or is it that I'm not supposed to upscale to a resolution that's higher than the file resolution?

Where are your playing your media from? There's a known issue with stuttering video when playing 1080p media from network. Future firmware may address this issue.

Just order the Xtreamer online but was informed the shipment will only be processed by Oct 1. Hopefully this time will not be a long wait.

It seems the sale is doing well where the order number has nearly hit 8000!

Yeah.... I read a lot of interesting delivery stories. Hopefully Xtreamer has sorted out the issue and put things in right perspective.

On the other hands, when I made the online payment through credit card even thought was set the payment currency in US dollar, however they still charged me in Euro. Luckily the currency difference is not much.

Quite funny...... after 24hours has passed but the shipping information shown on DHL website still remain empty.

Just called DHL customer service and their officer will verify with Hong Kong office tomorrow.

Wondering this will be another case of DHL guys knock the door and yet not updated the tracking status in the system. huh.gif

Yes, DHL online tracking gone cuckoo recently. Status shown item still at warehouse but DHL guy could be right in front of your door step! Try checking from dhl malaysia instead of the US one if you can find the tracking link.

After waited for 2 weeks and the Xtreamer was finally arrived safely........ but it was a very dramatic experience. sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

My parcel was withheld by custom right after it arrived at the airport. DHL personal contacted me and hilited this item is subjected to taxes. vmad.gif

From this forum, I came to know that no one was taxed and relayed the same message to DHL. However the next day, DHL came back stated unless I could provide the custom code else it will be taxed.

After checking with a few forumers but unfortunately none of them still kept those documentation. DHL provided 2 choices either pay the taxes or meet custom officer to appeal the case. I chose the latter and DHL told me to wait their call for arrangement to meet custom officer.

This morning made another call to DHL. To my surprise rather DHL told me meeting arrangement with custom officer instead I was told my parcel has been released and they're preparing for same day delivery. rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Even though I'm still in doubt of at what basic it has been released.... Right now I'm setting up my unit and enjoying the new media player. rclxms.gif

Indeed! 59€ for existing users of Xtreamer media player is a good buy for the specs it comes with as a 2 bay NAS. However at 99€ for non-Xtreamer users, there are lots of other alternatives available in the market

I guess most of the existing Xtreamer owners are excited this great 59€ offer. But the order only can be made on Nov 1st which is another 3 weeks to go.

Right now I'm setting up my unit and enjoying the new media player.  rclxms.gif

Great to hear your shipment was ok. rclxms.gif
So, what was the custom code? It will be good to know.

Unfortunately my shipment is stuck at somewhere.
It has been stuck at Shipment information received for nearly a month already.
Mails to xstreamer and calls to DHL so far was not successful.
This was the only time I had problems with online ordering. rclxub.gif

Do hope you will be getting your item soon enough. In actual fact I did close follow up with Xtreamer via mails as well as calling up DHL now and then.

I'm now keeping custom documentation for future reference. But there are so many type of numbers exist and couldn't figure out which one is the custom code.

I also noticed there is a clause stated that if the item total value is less than RM$500, then it will be exempted of tax. For this case, Xtreamer declaration value is below $500 and I guess that's why none of the people has not been taxed. nod.gif

by the way, one side of the xtreamer is quite hot, is it normal? i didn't change the fan speed.

i failed to copy files from my pc to xtreamer through the slave usb port. Everytime when i click on the paste function, pc hang and got to off the power to restart the pc. the file is in PC D drive.

However, it is able to copy files from usb to the xtreamer. very strange.

Is it possible causing by the eMule?

even if it loads the .ISO file, it won't function properly unless you have "BD lite" type of firmware which somehow guesses which main movie m2ts files and enables you to have simple BD menu to select audio and subtitles.. (so far some china 1073 realtek players can do it and also DVICO 6500/7000 bd lite edition FW)

without it, better just get into the BDMV folder shoot blindly in the hundreds of m2ts files, and guess which m2ts files to play directly...

I have used this Xtreamer for 2 days. So far I noticed it is much user friendly than my old WDTV. More functionality, more than I can imagine.

I have tried most of the function and so far my satisfactory level is 95/100. Actually nothing much to complain about with its decent price.

Finally my RMVB720p files can be played flawlessly. And I also tried out copy files from my PC to Xtreamer too, not too fast though as I do not have internal SATA drive installed, and transfer through Wifi G (slower speed as it can support Wifi N).

Today I managed to try out Dynamic DNS on this Xtreamer and it works. I can browse my files from other PC out from my house. There are few more advanced features available but have not tried it out.

All the files that has problem on WDTV earlier can be played on my new Xtreamer.

I extracted this fast review from forumer mavvy (xtreamer.net) about Firmware 2.0B for Xtreamer.

It sounds like this:

Hey guys, I can't publish all the internal discussion on the new firmware 2.0 beta so I hope I won't get spanked by giving some little info on the progress

New HD GUI looks much cleaner, it has good quality. One thing which has to be tuned are font and maybe icon sizes. Youtube service looks better now. If you experience strange sizes in internet services like Youtube, Weather etc. with the current 1.0.3.x firmware, it could be due to the optimization for the higher resolution. Also note that higher resolution images for the new GUI need more time to load, so the final firmware could have a slightly longer bootup time. But I have the impression that navigating through the new GUI in long file lists is even faster than it was with the old GUI.

The mobile remote control application is indeed nice. There is a hot discussion going on in this thread: http://forum.xtreamer.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4524

As it was already mentioned there: don't take it as an iPhone-dedicated-tool... it's a web application optimized for mobile devices with smaller display resolutions. The iPhone optimized version just happens to be the first supported. More resolutions will come soon for android or Windows Mobile devices or - I'm sure - can easily be added by us in short time.

Files having Dolby TrueHD or dts-hd audio tracks are not anymore silent. Passthrough and downmixing is supported for dts-hd and downmixing for TrueHD. Untouched passthrough... we'll have to see.

24p cinema mode is now already working properly in this early stage. Music player looks nicer now and even FLAC files with tags are supported. 0 Byte bug in UPnP environment is gone and playback of a song is possible but UPnP stability will need optimization. Fan noise also has been reported to be better

All together the 2.x branch will be a good step forward. Again, the beta is still in a very early stage, so there is a lot more work to do to fix major and minor bugs but I am sure you will eventually love the update.

Yes. It can play BDMV. To play it, you have to choose the biggest .m2ts file to play the whole movie.

So far I did not manage to get Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD passthru to AVR, only downmix and able to produce sound.

But according to forumer mavvy at xtreamer.net, he mention DTS-HD are able to passthru. MAybe it may due to my setting issue coz I have limited time to test it out at htkaki's AV set at his home.

Anyhow, picture quality is perfect according to htkaki, no lagging or jerk while playing BD ISO and BDMV files. There are still some minor bug issues in this Beta firmware. I believe HD Audio passthru is 'kacang' issue for Xtreamer team.

I just flash back to firmware 1.0.3.1

I tried to play some files. For BDMV files (.m2ts) it can play the files smoothly but one thing, it do not support subtitle selection hence no subtitle shown.

For 2.0B, it can select the subtitles, with subtitles shown.

* Windows 7 folder share handling has been improved.

* not working FUNC key on NET shares is going to be fixed.

If Xtreamer can then the rest of the realtek based players also can coz this is a realtek issue! But it's a matter of when they put out their individual updated firmware.

Is it available locally? If so, how much?

At the moment, I cannot hear the fan noise from my Xtreamer (doesn't bother me at all) but will consider this to cool down the Xtreamer which can be quite hot after playing for a while. rolleyes.gif

Would be great if you can bring in. I think the XSC not released by Xtreamer but by a UK vendor called Tranquil PC right?

Frankly, from my point of view, they should look for other miniature fan suppliers out there and fix the damn fan noise rather than charge the customers to buy that heatsink.

In my opinion, heat sink is a better solution for cooling down the unit if we are going to continuosly watching movies.

Actually, if you use that large heat sink, there is no point in using the internal fan as the air will not circulate at that area anymore.

The fan is originally use for the smaller heat sink so that can go through the fins to cool it down.

err...my point is do a design change or part change rather than ask the costumer to buy another heat sink...

Did you try to off it and on again? Press the On Button. The Big X will come out and wait for it to show the Menu, then try to upgrade to firmware.

Remember to flash to Firmware1.0.3.1

Added on October 30, 2009, 12:42 amOverheard some conversation that Firmware2.0 will be release next Friday 6 Nov 09. And also next Monday will release another beta Firmware.

Hope this will make this Xtreamer more enjoyable player.

Added on October 30, 2009, 12:49 amGlad to hear that dkliew has finally managed to get into the Menu Folder. MAybe due to connection problem. icon_rolleyes.gif

So busy still haven't got time to try out my Xtreamer. Will do it this weekend. Some questions:

1. the 2.5" HDD can format within Xtreamer? Or I format it in my PC first before putting inside Xtreamer?

2. can boot up Xtreamer just to test if its working without a 2.5" HDD inside?

jchong, i'm using it without any internal HDD. therefore, you should not have problem to boot without HDD.

It has a format HDD function inside although I did not try it out.

You can boot without any drive attached. Remember to update the firmware to 1.0.3.1

It happen to me with 3 movies already. When I try watching it through PC, no problem with the file. It plays smoothly. Any suggestions anyone?

Display settings: HDMI, 1080P

Sound no problem. It's not the display issue. It's displaying great. Just that for some movies, it stops half way. When I tried to re-play, the movie starts back from the beginning. I fast forward back near to where it stops, and play. When reach the same part, it stops again. Now, it already happen to 3 movies already. File not corrupted because I can play in PC very good and smooth. Confuse now?? unsure.gif

Wah, I didn't know people expected so much from my reviews smile.gif

Actually I wasn't planning to post any review on the Xtreamer since I'm not so familiar with media players (can't give any comparisons or experienced views) and besides this Xtreamer is more for my kids (put all their cartoons and kids shows into HDD rather than all the VCDs / DVDs lying around now).

I'm not so worried about HD stuff because I have my BD player for that. Still waiting for a player that can handle bd.iso flawlessly then I might migrate over to that and save on buying BDs.

Maybe wait for rm10 unker ho liddat if want cheap. Bdiso also need hdd and case to store them. Hahaha.

Well, I might want to use the Xtreamer once in a while also and experiment with mkv, etc... so I thought to get something better. Network connectivity was also something I wanted.

It'll be some time before uncle ho reaches RM10. Yeah, bd.iso also needs hdd, etc. Nothing is free... but some things are cheaper than others I guess. One thing I like about bd.iso is the convenience of many titles in one HDD (no need to eject/load disc) and much faster loading.

Keep your finger crossed to play BD ISO. Now still not fully release the power of HD Audio. BD ISO will be supported in Firmware 2.0 which is due to release next Friday.

I just try out 2.0b4 firmware (beta v2). Network speed issue had been solved. I try both high bitrate mkv and m2ts file (35Gb blu-ray movie) and it works without any stuttering. As currently it's not connected to my amp, I can't test the HD audio passthrough but TrueHD can be downmix to 2 channel output directly to tv.

Glad to hear this Xtreamer is solving its issue fast enough. Just read out the Release Notes for 2.0Beta4 last night. Have not tried it out though.

I'm using wired connection. I only have G wireless so I don't think that would be enough bandwidth for 1080p. Didn't try planet earth but others 1080p mkv and m2ts is working fine. Previously all 1080p material will stutter on 1.0.3 firmware. I try both NFS and Windows share, no problem at all. Last thing to try is TrueHD and DTS-MA passthrough.

aiyah. why beta when the official one may release in 1 week time. as u know, beta still got bugs one.

from the Xtreamer forum, look like we may not get the HD audio passthru in FW2.0, knn. something got to do with licensing issue.

so, 2.0.b4 support TrueHD passthrough? Must take the unit to my theater room to try out.

Just check out your screenshot. I thought you say TrueHD light on the receiver. Anyway, the movie info is nothing as it show the format, not that it'll do passthrough.

it just mean the unit's ability to recognize the trueHD track and decode/downmix to stereo..

to confirm bitstream have to look of the amp receiving and showing TrueHD..

hdwarexpert, have a question regarding the Xtreamer to ask u
The Xtreamer GUI does not have the function to eject/disconnect USB device (thumb drive, external HDD), right? I couldn't find it in the menu nor remote control.

How about f/w 2.0? is this function enabled?
